Discontinued ThermoVape Evolution

I was having the same problem. I went to my LHS and picked up a glass honeycomb screen. It's about a 1/4" wide and 1/16" thick with about 8 holes that are about a 1/16" in diameter. I put on the bottom and its been working wonders. ABV has been much more even.

interesting idea. ive been running a SS screen at the core in mine. i havent seen any black bits since my first two bowls. which makes me wonder how i did it in the first place. ive been trying to combust with and w/out screen, but to no avail.

Just got the Sabortouch 3.7v/6v mod today, with variable voltage passthrough. So far my testing has shown this:

With the EvoLV (empty) on the 18650 battery, I am getting what appears to be full glow on the heat coil, and it seems to be giving me decent vapor hits when loaded, with this battery. Using the 4.2v setting and the passthrough, I am not getting any glow at all from the heat coil, but noticing some heat building up after running it 20+ seconds waiting for the coil to light up. Confused and disappointed by this. Voltage tester reads a solid 4.2v from the passthrough, and 4.1v from the 18650 battery.

With the 6v Evo (empty), I set the passthrough to the 6.5v setting, and get what appears to be full glow of the heat coil, but when I loaded the bowl and started to vape, it is giving me weak hits as if I were running it on batteries that were starting to fade. It also tested a solid 6.5v with my voltage tester in passthrough mode. I put the two 3.0v lifepo4 batteries fresh from the charger in there, and the voltage reader shows 7.1. I took a long drag and got a good, solid hit, and tested the voltage again, and now it reads 6.6v

So right now, what is confusing me is how it can run this good on battery mode, and not as good with the passthrough that is reading at the proper voltage. I am posting about this here mainly because there was mention about this mod earlier in the thread, and I was wondering if it would work. Since I am this invested in it now, and can fully test it out, I might as well post the results. So far, battery mode, yes - passthrough not so much. It's a little disappointing. I am going to test it more for the next few days, and if I don't get better results, I am probably going to sell it in the ECF ecig forum classifieds. Really I just wanted the passthrough feature, and since that doesn't seem to be performing at acceptable levels (so far) I don't think I will want to hang on to it. Too bad, because it's a nice mod, I had hoped to be able to post more positive results, for those who may be looking for a passthrough alternative.

i also had high hopes... thanks for the info

After a few late night exchanges with Pam I'm convinced it's a dry hole. The power's just not there.

There seem to be several versions, she seems to have the highest power one, even if it's output voltages don't exactly match our needs. However, the raw supply (a Wall Wort) is good for one Amp at 15 Volts, 15 Watts maximum. We need 20 and still have to 'pay for' the losses in the second stage. That stage gives us a pretty modest 2 Amps (more or less) of the 5.5 we need.....less than half. No wonder it doesn't get hot enough, it's not about to any time soon.

What is needed here, I think, is a more robust supply to plug into the mechanical adapter. Nothing suitable off the shelf exists I know of, some thought and research seems in order. In a way I suspected this would be the case, if it was easy TV would probably have made it happen by now?

Real happy with the Evo so far. Used it all weekend with great success. I don't seem to be having the ups and downs like others have stated. At one point on Sunday I got very medicated on 1 load of Pure Kush that I had to sit down for awhile.

I don't think it is as much of a power issue with the EGO batteries as it is with the electric internals and button being able to withstand the load the Evo requires to work right, and also the heat it puts out.

So far the only ecig mod that I have seen posts that say it works with the Evo is the SilverBullet, is that correct?? Anyone?

With the smaller batteries like the ECO-C we cannot guarantee that the battery will be reliable, we recommend power supplies that utilize 14500's, 17670's, or 18650's

Just a reminder we are still taking referrals for head shops and offering 15% off for 1-3, 25% for 4-6. send them to info@thermovape.com

1000mAh? Does that sound right?

Probably right for the battery capacity (the h part for 'hours' is a clue), but as Jam suggests we need to know the maximum current available, we need more than most e-cigs are ready to deal with.....

Spot on Jam! I too don't know of any off hand either, and I understand that unit has clearance issues with the switch? And the switch itself is marginal and has died on at least one guy???

Persei (of course) and the TV supplies (at least the larger two) are good to go AFAIK and probably make the best options unless someone knows better?

my RoughStack Maxi works pretty well with my Evo, but gets hot pretty quickly and can be a PITA. the TV base is much better in this regard.

sux they dont make the SB pass through anymore...

i would prolly get one just for that and run my Evo at home.

I know that when 1.5 ohm ecig atomizers and 1.5 ohm dual coil ecig cartomizers started to become popular the buttons in a bunch of Egos couldn't handle the amperage draw and eventually failed. I haven't heard of the problem in a while, so I'm pretty sure they fixed the issue in subsequent models. But there's always a possibility that the Ego in question is an older model.

As far as other ecig mods go, I've been having great success with my Silver Bullet and Omega. I've only run them at 3.7v, but I just placed an order for a SV Evo Heater Core and a couple 3v Tenergy batteries, so I will be able to comment on 6v in a few days. AltSmoke doesn't officially support either the Silver Bullet or the Omega running at 6v, but in actual practice both mods are more than capable of handling it.

I've also been told that the following ecig mods will also work; PureSmoker Legacy, The Empire Mod, The Helix, Super T Precise, Super T Shockwave, The Megalodon, and the InnoVapor Apex UltaMax. I was also told that Vapor Moon's Saber Touch 3.7v/6v would also work, but that the passthrough won't.

Also as far as variable voltage goes, I've been told that both the Darwin and the ProVari are out because they aren't capable of outputting more than 3 amps.

Hope this helps.

Addendum; The Empire Mod is threaded for 901s and not 510s, so it needs an adapter to use the TV Evo.

I can vouch for this, now. I just got my Sabortouch yesterday and yes on battery mode, it works. The PT just isn't amped high enough to push enough power. I did get close to full glow on the 6v Evo using the 6.5v setting from the variable PT, but it was just barely vaporizing, I was getting really light hits. Thanks for the info Manic.

If you like the bottom button be sure to check out The Megalodon, and PureSmoker's Legacy too.

Addendum to my last post; The Empire Mod is threaded for 901s and not 510s, so it needs an adapter to use the TV Evo. I'm going to edit my previous post and cross out The Empire Mod.

yeah ive looked closely at that one as well. i know the switch is lockable in the off position to avoid it being activated in a pocket or whatever, but i would like to see a switch that is lockable in the on position.

found this link to be helpful.

You and me both. It would be super helpful with warmup at 3.7v.

I think ideally it would also have a 2 to 5 minute safety shutoff, but would be able to be restarted immediately in case it shut off in the middle of use.

Hmm, I wonder if I can slap together a simple box mod. :science:

got my evo the other day....fastest shipping time yet. been playing with both evo and dart with success using both. the dart will take a bit more practice to nail down the process, but the evo keeps throwing out the vaps. will order the pure flow or smooth moisture conditioner and more batteries gee you can tear through them can't ya?

any recommendations on whether the filters can fit on the dart or which generally works better?

TIA

smoothflow works best on the Evo or T1 because it does not restrict the airflow, the pureflow works well with the Dart/Rev, as it does restrict the airflow which slows down the draw a bit.

I have been using the smooth flow for the T1 for a week now and the smooth flow also works with the EVO. I bought a dropper bottle and filled it with water so I can drop 2-3 drops when I feel I need it. I can feel the warm vapor towards the end of hits but after 6 hits my voice doesn't sound scratchy due to the dry heat. So it helps on the go but when I'm at home I still prefer the glass adapter.

I have the smooth flow and while I only used my evo once so far (pre-emp drug test soon) I'm thinking the restriction on the pure flow would provide for better hits, as I feel there is a bit too much airflow in the evo which may lead to wispier hits. Take my advice with a grain of salt as I have limited experience so far, but would be interested to hear people's experiences with the pure flow and air to vapor ratio.
