The Tempest by Mad Heaters & Phatpiggie

Question regarding balls, is there a way to visually determine if the balls I have are quartz or boro? I got them with the unit on the exchange, and I do have incoming with my T2, but uncertain what exactly I have on hand right now.

Separately, loading up the T1 head with SiC right now (also don’t know 2.5 or 3mm), what’s everyone recommended setting/procedure on the wand?

Hello here, my first post.

I just got the tempest V2 and I am having some issues. Two things really:
1: I can't get the half bowl setting to work - Should be a groove (which there is) but the screen will not stay in it, pushes down when I load it - in the end I have used 2 screens and trapped some quartz balls between to act as a spacer.
2: The beads in the head will not stay in! I dropped it on the second day of owning and now (day three) I cannot get the beads to stay in the cap - I think they are in there, tapping on my hand & shaking, then all of a sudden (when you think its good) they all fall out?

Anyone else had these issues if so how did you solve them?

Cheers

The screen has got 3 little fins that screw in. You need to line them up with the notches on the head, and give it a firm clockwise turn. And make sure the F marker on the screen are the right way up

Check the number of balls. If there are too many the screen might not screw in. I think I have 42 3mm rubies in mine, which is 2 less than the zirconia that were originally installed

For setting the bowl I've had good results pushing it all the way down, and then pushing it up from underneath the bowl. A dynvap condensor works great for this. Do it slowly and it should click in place.. Make sure the screen is flat too. I've had to reset my screen 4 times this week for... reasons, and each time it clicked in to the medium bowl setting first time 😎

*edited to remove imgr ink that wouldn't load.

Sorry since this has probably been asked a bunch so far but I couldn't find a stickied/pinned message, but when will the next round of Tempest 2 orders open up on madheaters?

I saw a pic oft the Tempest 2 with the wood sleeve and I had to have it.

EDIT: Nevermind I somehow missed it saying end of August on the website

You can identify them by size. Quartz are 3mm and boro are 2,5 mm. just compare them to the preloaded 3mm zirc balls in the t2 (or to the preloaded 2,5mm zirc balls in the t1 head). or just roughly count how many you can get into the head. 2,5 mm should be ~80 balls; 3mm should be ~40 balls.

Three days in and I‘m still loving this thing. Stock stem was too bulky so we switched it out.

General Disaster

Schrödinger's rat!
I am wondering if I need a Tempest. At the moment I am using a Dynavap Woodwynd with a Halo Tip and a BallR Cap. So to taste differences between Terpens is important to me. Will there be a huge difference in taste if I switch to a Tempest?
  • Principal #1: Things like these add-on's (tips and caps etc) have come about because there was a need to improve what was originally not exact;y low-end (woodwynd).
  • Principal #2: Upgrade hacks rarely match the performance of something whose parts are designed and tuned to work together from the start (e.g. the 'pest's cap was designed to work as best as can be with the rest of it, while many DV accessories are generic and made to work with as many models as possible and therefore not tuned for the woodwynd).
  • Principal #3: In a fast evolving technical arena the latest development is often fundamentally ahead of the pack and consequently if it's not a flawed design will have a longer useful lifespan.
  • Principal #4: Always have more than three principal's!

Or..., maybe your reasons for wanting something other than your current setup would better inform your decision?
Is it not satisfying you? Are you simply seeking a new experience? Is it simply VAS? Etc etc.
Plus the question of cost, will buying the T2 impact your budget, and if so will the improvement of a T2 be worth that impact?

And finally ...
... just bloody well get one ffs! They're one of the very best portable ball vape's money can buy in a group of very few - I only know of the Tornado being a match for the T2 (different though), and bear in mind, most T2 buyers (it seems, at least) have a T1 and were very happy with their T1, until, they got their T2!
I bet the T1 is better than the woodwynd with extras, never mind the T2!

I have not found this principle to be true at all. Most of my vapes work best with aftermarket custom stems and accessories. Case in point, I much prefer my KGW Canvas stem with the tempest head over the MH stem.

Awesome setup! Can I ask where you found your stem and mouthpiece?
Thank you! I made them both, they’re az desert ironwood. I make LOTS of them lol. I won’t promote myself but I have a website I just got set up with a gallery of sorts if you’d like to see some of my other work. It’s my username dot com. Flattering words though, thank you.

Due to various things going on recently, I've had to reduce how often I'm using my tempests - sadly.
I've actually gone back to a Dynavap for during the day/early evening, it's taken a few weeks to get the tolerance down, but I got there.
I have to say though, I'm really missing the flavor during the day, I was never one for bothering with flavor in the past, but now I've lost it for part of the day, I really notice it, and really miss it, I had no idea how used to taste I had gotten.
Things will get back to normal, but this is the new normal for now.

Anyway, I'm now using the tempest for evenings when I'm using my heavier strains, spent the last few days messing around with ruby's and sic balls.
I think I've settled on the sic, I've been running them with the bowl in the 0.1g setting, glass adapter set in the same place as it was for the T1, 300c till time out, results have been superb. Bowl has a good even roast throughout.

I'm sort of struggling with the rubys, I think they feel better on the throat so I really want to give them another go, what do others who still use the glass adapter set the wand to with ruby's?
I know the new adapter is better, but it doesn't suit my needs so I need to carry on with the glass one.

I was also hoping to order a second device in that recent launch, but things didn't pan out and I doubt that'll be changing any time soon, but I did manage to order the new extra twisty bit so looking forward to giving that a go.

Also tried some new screens that I got before, the more open ones, makes a big difference, under the screen seems noticeably less claggy than before.

One things for sure, now I'm only hitting the tempest at night, I'm really feeling it, this reduction in tolerance is really helping with my sleep at the moment haha

It only clicks once.. what’s going on with mine?
My T2 only clicked twice for a few days, then there was only 1, never really need the second click though.

I haven't tried the ballr cap, but I have read of users comparing them, in reality there's probably little to no comparison.
The tempest was built to be what it is, the ballr cap is an adaptation to give a Dynavap a new lease of life and offer the user some form of alternative.
I'm pretty sure, that if you enjoy the ballr cap, you will be blown away by a tempest and it's capability.
