Review | MGVS – The Stunner
I was curious. Very curious. The Stunner has consistently good reviews and after Troy & Jerry praised the device to the skies both in the Vape Awards and in their streams, I really wanted to try it out. It's similar to the Tempest. Normally, the brutal, hard and yet very powerful devices aren't really my cup of tea. But the Tempest is still a device that I reach for every now and then. And then the Stunner is supposed to have a steep learning curve and a fantastic taste...
So the search began. I don't like ordering from overseas because of all the customs and waiting hustle and that's why I was all the more pleased to have found the device in our neighboring country France. First with the stem and everything else in the shopping cart, then I read that the tip also works on the Dani Stems (9mm and not Dynavap, which have 8mm). I had a V3 stem lying around without anything and thought: it's fine to try. And then there was/is also the tip & caps combo in the shop. So I decided against the original stem (it's not pretty anyway) and then I bought it.
Now to the main point: I quickly found the learning curve. The first time I got the cap to glow bright red and then it was almost combusted. It wasn't tasty and way too much. So, similar to the convector, I heated it relatively high up and got it to glow slightly red all around (took about 15-20 seconds) and then my first thought was: Wow! Too hot again?! Lots, yes, a lot of vapor. But: ultra tasty and nothing harsh. There it was! The sweet spot. It was great. I immediately tried another one and heated it up just the same. It was so awesome again. The thing needs a lot of power from the torch, but then it works like hot cakes.
The workmanship is great! No crunchy or cheap-looking threads. Inside there is a very solid sieve, which can be screwed up to the balls using the thread (for the tip & cap connection). Replacing the balls is child's play compared to the Tempest. It looks very purist, but perfectly functional. Replacing it takes just a few minutes and there's no fiddling around. That's fun. And it seems like it's built to last. That's how I like it. The Tempest is a bit annoying when it comes to that. A click is always nice, but not really necessary here. And it delivers more than adequately.
The scope of delivery includes a tip and 2 caps (one high flow and one standard): I've only tested the standard so far, as that's perfect for my native use. I can imagine the high flow working very well on glass or with water, though. Otherwise there are a few sieves and O-rings included, although the O-rings are unfortunately complete rubbish. I replaced them straight away and 7x1mm Viton (inner diameter x line thickness) is perfect for the Dani Stem to Tip connection. It fits really well. I would recommend it.

I do have one negative point though: Unfortunately, the cap is not magnetic, so you definitely need a good place to put the hot device. Any cooling stand with a magnet is superfluous. A small point, but good to know imo...
Otherwise, I would definitely recommend the device. It is definitely not (!!!) a beginner's device. I see that attribute more in the Tempest, but for advanced users it is definitely a keeper that no collection should be without. Especially since the price is completely reasonable.
I am already thinking about buying a second one! It is fun.
Chapeau MGVS!

Good review!

I got my Stunner before the Tempest was available and it was the first ball vape I ever owned. I don't use torches but I'd read that the Wand could heat it. It took a while to heat this way but with the Wand, the results were always predictable and tasty. In fact, with no snap disks or visual indicator I've never combusted with it.

I came close a couple of times with some scorching, but I would just wait until the tip cooled a bit more and then keep drawing. It's pretty forgiving in this way. I liked it so much that I never ended up getting a Tempest because I feel they would be too similar.
