I am a huge Giants fan. Been a Giants fan for over 10 years now. This pre season has been rough. 2 losses and 1 win for my boys. They keep tying out there back up QB. I get it though, Manning is coming off a terrible season. It'll be a couple years before we make the play offs again.

I'm also a Raptors fan. Been way too long since I've gone to an NBA game.

Can you feel it college football fans? Its almost here . . . :D

The bad news. #24, Thomas Tyner, is out for the season after having shoulder surgery for an injury sustained from a hit by Shaq Thompson last year.

The good news . . . we are absolutely loaded for bear. Royce Freeman is back and looking stronger than ever. Royce ran for nearly 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns as a freshman, and he didn’t fully get the starting nod until Week 7. Look for Byron Marshall to help out. Charles Nelson is an absolute freak on both sides of the ball. He has been moved to defense but can create an instant microwave situation if brought in on offense. Look also for Bralon Addison and Devon Allen to do great things on offense.

Names to remember: Taj Griffin. Remember DeAnthony Thomas? Taj Griffin is the closest thing we have seen since. See video below. Zach Okun. There’s no other way to say it. This guy is freaking huge. He’s a freshman and he’s already the third-heaviest guy on the team, weighing in at a stout 310 pounds. But here’s the deal … he can move. He’s got quick feet on his pulls, he drives guys back with good balance and his weight back, and he can get out in the open field and create a path for backs with ease.

On defense look for Gus Cumberlander, Jimmie Swain, and Fotu Leiato to make headaches for the opposing team. Swain is 6’2″ and approaching 240 pounds, but what’s terrifying isn’t his size, it’s his quickness. Swain ran a 4.51 40 as a linebacker coming out of high school. That would’ve been the fastest time at the NFL combine this year for all linebackers, and he has three more years to work on his agility and quickness.

Go Ducks!!! :D

Expect Vernon Adams to take the helm though as Ty is still raw, raw, raw. Zach Okun: There’s no other way to say it. This guy is freaking huge. Hey T-dub I was wondering what your opinion is of Jaryd Hayne? He is a 27 year old rugby league player trialing with the 49ers. Never played NFL before and looks good to make the final roster.

Looks like Steve Sarkisian needs rehab after his drunken, profanity laced, rant where he had to be led offstage. He has relinquished play calling duties for the first game as well. He said he doesn't believe he has a drinking problem, but mixed alcohol with meds, and is done drinking for the season. That sounds like an alcoholic to me. I hope he gets the help he needs. I think the Trojans are, once again, overrated, but time will tell. You guys are coming up here to play, I know people are saying that you guys are going to win, but I seriously doubt it.

Ugh the the Bruins......lol jk. I am a little curious on that Rosen guy. Seems like a good player. @t-dub i think we're going to surprise people. We should've been 10-2 last year if it wasn't for those stupid last second plays.

IMO Alabama is overrated this year. It's time for the SEC to play second fiddle to the PAC12

Huge rugby league fan here (not rugby, which they place at some colleges in the US) anyone keeping up on Jarrad Hayne, the Australian former nrl player apparently doing alright in the NFL?

Few highlights from last season. Game play is split into two 40 minute halfs with play kept as constant and fluid as possible. Each team has 5 tackles to advance play and play the ball over the try line (must be place on the ground with downward pressure and control kept of the ball... So sadly you can't just run over the line and do a little dance) on the fifth they either kick in play when they have no more tackles left, this can be strategic if you can manage to get to the ball back and pull something off. Usually the other team gets it, runs it back like an NFL punt return, this is the start of the tackle count and it all goes again. Change overs for penalties (passing/dropping the ball forward). 13 players on the field, 5 on the bench and only one team for attacking and defend... No pads might I add, time outs and other such things invent to make a sport soft;).... Although worth adding, shoulder chargers we banned last year (leading directly with the shoulder without making attempted to place an arm around them) and recently adopted some communist concussion rules.

Few lads in there that could eat the NFL up, hopefully this jarad Hayne goes alright.

Sorry but I don't really follow professional football and I haven't even heard of Hayne. I will be watching Marcus Mariota though.
Ah thanks. I forgot how big college football is. As a non American its a very interesting thing.
This Jaryd Hayne story is big news in Australia at the moment. He was an elite NRL player and quit the sport to go to the U.S and make it in the NFL. Pretty much everyone laughed at him. He has no background in American Football at all. The SF 49ers signed him to trial with them. Again few took him seriously but he has worked hard and looks good to make the 53 man squad. I saw today he has been added to the latest version of Madden. Anyway it is a really interesting story and pretty amazing imo.
I dont know very much about American Football to be honest.
@Tommy10 Same here dude. Who is your team. Im a mad Roosters supporter.

I'm with you there, I don't mind keeping up a little with the pop culture of the sport, because it is pretty cool. As for the game itself I have tried watching a couple Super Bowls but it just moves so slow! Althkugh I love watching NFL highlights, some massssssive hits!! Shame about the armour, but still impressive!

If he makes it there will be a lot of Australians becoming more interested in NFL. I've been paying attention where before I wasnt interested.

For sure, worth noting for the Americans the NRL has a salary cap which pretty much means only a few players at each club can be in the $500000-1000000 yearly salary mark. Which is just chump change in the NFL and pretty laughable for professional sportsman with the athletic skill it takes to play a game like rugby league... Something will have to be done or they might loose a few to the NFL. It's just to lucrative to not be considered by players if Jarrad Hayne makes it. Plenty of currently players who have always been better than him with a few years left in them. Still cracks me up that nobody in the American media, the NFL or any commentators have had a quick Google and noticed "rugby" (rugby union) and rugby leauge are different games.

It's kinda like Cricket or Australian rules football, Most of us here in America know they exist and know they are sports that are played and shown on TV somewhere in the world but not where we live, so most of us have no real clue as to what the rules of play are.

I think since We only get to watch a couple of rugby games on TV a year, whether it's union or league it all looks the same to most of us ... using the same ball and same basic game play it just looks like the same game with slightly different rules to me.

(even reading a wiki called "comparison of rugby league and rugby union" before posting this didn't clear up any real difference between the two for me besides the size of the pitch)

Hearing you there. I aknowkedge there is a game call European hand ball, that's about. The main difference in the two is a the tackle count. Rugby leauge you must tackle the other team five times and run back 10m from the attacking side every tackle. The ball is quickly played and play continues. Rugby after a tackle is made, the ball remains open and both team ruck and contest for the ball. This equals a lot of standing around for a lot of players. Basically a similar style of game for if you are a bit over wieght out of condition and prefer to drink on yoir Friday nights and not too worried about a good night sleep. Aussie rules football athletically is a marvel of a sport! Just very scrappy to watch and about as tough as sitting down to pee. Where I'm from in Australia you'd sooner be caught in bed painting your nails watching sex in the city before you let your father catch you wearing an AFL uniform.

On another note, the American sporting system is very interesting to us, even at high school levels. Here you do not really play for your school (well you do, but it's not the main competition) and instead join a junior club of choice and play games on the weekend irrespective of school. Even universities and sport are nothing like you guys have, I played rugby union for a year at uni (fitness and drinking restricted my ability to play leauge) the university had a team yet I played for a local club. Population and such I guess, with a population similar to that of the New York tri state spread over such a huge area it would be impossible to put 50000 spectators at college games. Although in saying that even local club teams especially in the higher divisions are allowed to pay players and young up and comers 16-20 are offered financial contracts... They are just 1/100th if a typical NFL contract.

Michigan Vs Utah tonight . . . should be a good one to start things off this year. Utah is always rough sledding, those guys are brutes. I remember we had several bad injuries in that game last year. Also, the Beavers play tomorrow night at Reser Stadium, Corvallis.

Wow, Utah really brought the defense. Their front 7 did an outstanding job and the secondary had 3 interceptions. Look out PAC-12 South, you are in for a rough ride with these guys, and so are we when they come to Autzen Stadium on September 26th. Travis Wilson was really looking good. Seems like he has less hair this year. Up tonight the Beavers of Oregon State.

Edit: A HUGE game tonight will be Washington and Boise State.

A football game just broke out in idaho
Yes it did. I was pretty sure Chris Petersen would end up with egg on his face, and he did.

Man the PAC-12 North looks really weak. The Stanford loss was the biggest surprise but both WA squads going down, Colorado losing to the Rainbow Warriors? Really? We look like shit.

The PAC-12 South, on the other hand, looks very promising. UCLA is the real deal. New quarterback Josh Rosen looks awesome. And I have to admit that the USC Trojans look good as well although they were not really challenged in their game. But they look good.

The good news: The Duck's offense looked great. Royce Freeman is going to have an excellent year and Vernon Adams seems to be fitting into the offense really well. Everything was fine until that late hit with targeting happened. Their player was ejected and will be suspended for a game.

The bad news: Our defense absolutely s-u-c-k-s. They can't tackle anything. Something is really, really wrong.

We play Michigan State next week, ESPN's College GameDay will be there, and I am predicting that we will LOSE that game. Unless something really changes on defense, we will lose, period.

So the South looks strong, the North looks like crap, our defense sucks and we are going to lose to Michigan State. That sums up the weekend for me.

The game at Autzen was nice though. A beautiful day for football and a lot of fun. I only took a pic of the Duck Harley when it stopped by. Once I got in the stadium I just watched and took it all in . . . :)

Meh, Washington was 12 point underdog against BSU. They had a true freshman on the road, got the game down to the wire and gave up 0 points in the second half. Plus, they only had a handful of returning starters compared to BSU. Not too shabby. By all indications the game would have been an upset if UW won.

There's still a ton of ball to be played but I don't expect too much from UW. Next season should be more exciting as they will be much more experienced.
