So...
I've had the Splinter for quite a while now and am using it nearly exclusively with the exception of Solo 2 seshes when I want that style.
I've had a lot of time to analyze the different settings and really figure out what I prefer. As most of you know, I use FJ firmware and almost always use TC on cruise mode with my D020d.
Until recently!
I'm using my Jhook almost exclusively. It is just one of the most satisfying vape experiences I've ever had when paired with the Splinter. The vapor is so smooth with incredible flavor, but the hits I'm getting are just effortlessly huge with my new technique. The hits just feel so incredibly dense once the vapor starts pouring in (which is very quick now) that it remind me of just hitting a pipe and getting that instant feedback knowing you're getting a hit.
The big change in my technique is that I'm not using temp control as often. I have found that pros of wattage mode are currently outweighing the pros of TC mode for me currently with this setup. The wattage mode gets to temp faster, produces vapor faster after drawing, and has thicker vapor leading to more robust hits. This is huge for me. The hits are bigger than I could ever need. The ABV is near perfect, I don't even stir 90% of my seshes unless it's just extremely convenient for me (same as TC mode though). Also, the wood stays cooler in Wattage mode.
In TC mode, the hits don't feel as dense. They feel a bit more aired out, like you need to use more lung for the same hit compared to wattage mode. Wattage feels like the vapor just pours in thick, TC mode is more drawn out. With that said, TC mode does longer hits better, is more consistent, and still provides exceptional vapor production. Trust me, if it didn't kickass in TC mode I wouldn't have been using it all this time. But wattage mode is finding a place in my heart. I'll keep experimenting, but I've been using wattage mode for nearly 1-2 weeks now.
For what it's worth, my friends who like the biggest hit they can possibly take (they have an lsv), they use TC mode if they use the Splinter. Through huge long hits through the bubbler or super rips, I'll probably stick with TC mode.
I don't think of this vape as a portable in the slightest, this thing keeps up with the LSV no problem. Some days it feels more powerful, but that's probably wishful thinking. I'd say realistically it just just barely below the LSV.
Just loving the Splinter.
Excited for everyone to get theirs!
