The "Project" DIY Herbal Vaporizer

I don't if anyone in this thread has ever thought to themselves that a product was so interesting, or cool, or helpful or whatever that you wanted to shake the hand of the inventor. Well last night, I got to do that with the project! As I had said before I was having issues with my coil. After much back and forth between @Pipes and myself, and A LOT of failing/learning on my part, it was determined that my coil was fucked and he would help me get back on my feet.

Thankfully, I don't live that far from him and he invited me out to him so he could help me. He might not be the mad scientist some of us (ok maybe just me :uhoh:) had pictured him, but he is even nicer and funnier in person than his online personality, then again he is Canadian so that should come as no surprise. It was really great seeing the master at work. Watching him put together a coil was quite the sight. Now if you think I could do it after watching him... In the end, he helped me out a lot and my project is up and running again. And of course I had to thank him with a big handshake. Thanks @Pipes

What was the problem in the end? Can you be a bit more specific than the coil being 'fucked' :)

Sorry for the lack of clarity. I believe that I over tightened the atomizer at least once and it damaged something inside. The coil would not stay at the same resistance consistently. When I would put on the ss sleeve, the resistance would bounce all over even without the coil touching the wall. On top of that, I had moved the coil so many times it didn't resemble a usable shape. The read of the cold resistance ranged from .532 to .958 by the end.

I learned a few things (mostly from @Pipes but some from my own failures):
  • Don't over tighten the atomizer or you risk damaging it
  • Use toothpicks to work with the coil
  • Put the screen in the eraser before putting it over the ss sleeve
  • These things look super easy when pipes does them, but much less so in my own hands
I think there were a few more things I learned in through my frustration. If I remember, I will share them with others.

Thanks buddy! I think we would all benefit from a @Pipes coil making video ;)

While not on the list (I think the list comprises of devices that are also compatible with the "myevic" firmware), Eleaf's iStick Pico works very well with the Project as most TCR capable mods I think. From my experience so far it might also work even better... :p I can't seem to grab Cuboid at all these days! Pico is so small and comfortable to hold and have around that I don't mind the occasional battery swapping...
Haven't found a cheaper and smaller mod so far that also has replaceable batteries so it might be the best mod for the $ as well....

Man, cant wait to get the glass version! Eraser for outside use, glass for home use, which one will I buy a new boxmod for!? :)

I appear to be sticking at 80 watts atm. I tried going to 50w for a while and liked it but 80w is obviously way more immediate in providing hits. I'm not drawing on it for the full 15 seconds any more and not getting hot spots, although I also slightly re-did my wonky coil and thats made heating more even too.

Life is good...

Starting from now on, an additional accessory will be included. A stem cap to keep your stem loaded and safe.
It's a 12mm cap for the Glass and a 14mm cap for the Eraser. They will be cut back some as the original cap's length is a bit too long.

I was eyeing one of those Arizer silicone caps for the stems myself, they seem a bit easier to use/remove but these should do as well...

Nice glass stem man, what is it exactly? Managed to merge glass and wood seamlessly??? :whoa::p

How is the VT75 nano treating you?

EDIT: Is that a flat wire coil I see in that glass Project? :sherlock:

My VAS might have been cured with the Eraser but my MAS (you know what this is right???) is holding up! What a nice find buddy!!! Impressed! Looks very small, almost like a Pico, and would keep the total profile even lower with the Eraser inside that cage! But it seems I can't add this in a cart... Product not found? And no price either.

Ah, yeah, I had to look around. Its in the starter kit section here - http://smoant-mall.com/stater-kits-c-123/smoant-knight-v2-80w-side-by-side-tcr-tc-kit-p-324.html , also found a uk seller. Pretty much £50.

EDIT: Is that a flat wire coil I see in that glass Project? :sherlock:

It's the glass joint cut down to accommodate a standard 510 drip tip. It's the glass drip tip holding me back on getting some out. The one in the pic is a wooden one which I had ordered a couple of. The long awaited 510 glass stem (drip tip) is very close to the same dimensions. They are past due, so anytime now. Also, have a few stubby glass ones coming for future possibilities. Lord only knows how long they'll take.

The VT75nano.... Freakin love it.
At first, I was a little let down from the functions you do stand alone without the aid of the PC software, EScribe.
Can only change between material, SS, Ni, or Ti, and wattage. And a different menu has 8 preset profiles to pick from, like temp/normal, temp/boost, watts gentle...crap like that. Interesting but no mix and matching.
My atomizer build never seems to work with factory set SS mods and this was no different. Ran cool as hell.
Got right into the EScribe software and quickly found it to be amazing and no guess work. Some different terminology but same goal.

It holds the temp dead on, and you can control the preheat amount and duration without guessing at PID numbers.
And yes, you can add your own screen pictures..lol 128X32 pixels.

When I go to profile select I toggle between:

My ECig

My Project Glass

My Project Eraser

Now, since the ohms are manual inputted to off set the temperature, it will ask if new atomizer and you need to push "NO". Also, while firing the mod will normally flash "temperature protected" and with the manual ohms, it will flash "OHMS TOO HIGH" Kind of lame....

Much better!

Just pick it and go. All the ohms data/ preheat settings/ watts/ starting temp etc. are saved within that preset. The files are savable and transferable. I now see why these DNA chip sets have been so expensive up til recently.
A big thank-you to @natural farmer for finding them at a very reasonable price.
I'm actually thinking of getting a second one. Just pondering over the big brother, a 26650 unit. VT75 strait up.. :luv:
Of course have to look into 26650 battery pricing etc...:sherlock: And see how my current unit holds a charge??

Looks awesome to boot!!! And the size reminds me of my D2. Very nice feel in the hand.

So glad you like it bro! :D Very comfy to hold and so much cool stuff possible! I got one in my hands the other day in a local ecig shop and liked the size and weight of it as well! The need for the Escribe software hold me off though as I don't even own a Windows pc. :p Does the glow pulse if you set the temp high and the coil is glowing? Cuboid pulses a lot, Pico doesn't pulse at all.

I prefer the simplicity of the Pico firmware for the moment. Set and forget... :tinfoil: I hope the Smoant is equally good. The stealthier the marrier for me! ;)

As I go through the FC lists of portable vapes I can't seem to find any vaporizer in the market right now that is as close to perfection as the Eraser is... The DIY has surpassed the market in my eyes. YMMV of course but especially now with the Pico as my mod I can't think of anything else I would ever want from a vape. VAS is under control! I have found the light! Pipes? You are my vape god! In your service!:bowdown::bowdown:

@fluffhead I envy you, I'd love to meet with @Pipes one day and have him help me with the stumbles I've experienced. Although as much as I love his innovations I might just dive in for the bro hug.

@Pipes my only wish is that I could intercept that glass and get it into your hands faster! Keep up the great work!

For those that purchase the mod boxes that can recess the eraser a bit please keep us abreast of how that works. I like how the eraser looks on my cuboid just fine but something more recessed may be more pocketable on the go and might allow a little more stability when pairing the project with a waterpipe.

I am currently on a hiatus but I am hoping 100% planning on using the Project along with the vapcap (along with Pipes's vapcap heater) to reintroduce myself to microdosing and to try and keep my tolerance nice and low.

My girlfriend recently moved back after a year away and I really think that she will enjoy the project because it is on demand and regulated.

Curse you @natural farmer, I just ordered a black Knight V2 from FT too! :brow:

I'll take the blame for that, and Im not even thinking of buying one!

Just call me Typhoid Mary :)

Oh shit a new virus... Is there any safe place on FC..?!
Poverty is my vaccine anyway... lucky me..!? :ugh:

Do not come here unless you have a specific problem, info to share or you want to add some more cost to your shopping list, or just do a lot of window shopping ;)

Usually its all four :)

Hahaha! I've not used many of the vapes that came out after the Mighty etc, but I'm in full agreement here :) Yes, YMMV but for me, the Project is the end of the search! :)

Now I just need to get it prettied up with wood! :)

E2A: @natural farmer Cant wait to see how the Eraser fits in that little mod. I noticed on looking at the page again that it says it has a 510 adapter, Im wondering if that means it doesnt take a 510 connection as standard? Looking forward to seeing it!

Oh and btw, I found it by googling "boxmod stealth"... Just having a look on fasttech (never been there before), and it looks like this would fit too, but 10w less power - https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10014233/5922903-authentic-tesla-stealth-70w-tc-vw-apv-box-mod

Looking forward as well! Unfortunately Fast Tech mailed me that due to problems with production the Knight 2 will not be available until later in February... That's what the manufacturer told them I guess or it is just luck of stock... Anyway, I found a sweater deal over at gearbest where they still have a flash sale on them for 14 more hours and grabbed one there while cancelling the fasttech order... The 510 adapter they include is because some RDAs are very short and the mouthpiece would be too deep for the lips to make connection. So it just moves things higher if needed. Don't think we will need it with Eraser. :p

As for the link you sent I don't think that mod has TCR, just fixed settings for SS, Kanthal, Ti. And no word for max width accepted...

Hey everyone!

Package: Received !:clap::tup:

First of all, Thanks Pipes !

So after a quick replay of the Eraser FAQs, check up of BoxMod setting:

~.56Ω -> .600Ω Locked. Check disabled
180°C -356°F
TCR170
P 1350
I 400
D 0

Few firsts try (75w), I combusted. Literally Ashes. :whoa:
And then I tried, and tweaked (25-45w), to arrive at those smooth white walls I heard about!
A pleasure to use with the bubbler!
The BoxMod screen is right in front of your eyes, your can watch the temperature fluctuating and stabilizing; it's interesting to see how it follows and adjusts itself by the draw!
I feel it kicks hard on my single Listman 3000mAh 40A batterie.. 'Weak Battery' signal pretty often!

The only concern is about the red sleeve, I ended to have some chuncks on the bowl and near the coil :\
Here are some pics:
WjDDPpZ.jpg

Little red chuncks on the left of the bowl

0tSxsHB.jpg

Little red chunck in the middle of the bowl

9zg45RJ.jpg

Little red chuncks on the heater .. :\

RW7HxRB.jpg

Weak point on the sleeve

b6ZSzE2.jpg

Crack on the inside ?!

I cleaned it with hot soapy water before first use, and brushed/blowed very well after the discover.
Seems better now!
Is there something I missed or done wrong?

Still can't figure how to use it dry, air is too hot and light vapor. But I requested a short sterm, so my bad I presume ;)
I will order a Lotus WPA for Bubbler, and an Air/Solo Stem

Beside that, I'm pretty well medicated, it performs well and on demand :haw:

Some exotic wood bodies/stems :luv: and the rights BoxMod, it sure is a killer !

Looking forward to tame the beast :ninja:

@Joaon the change of the watts should not help you with the combustion thing because if you are using the mod property for the project use that will not matter because what is limit the temp is the temp set , check if you are using the mod in the right way , what modbox do get ?

also i recomend the e-nano fixed glass stem , arizer air glass stem for direct hit .

Interesting. I think If I set my boxmod to 25 - 45 watts, I'd have to draw for half an hour before the bowl got up to temp! :) What boxmod are you using?

Could the chunks of eraser that have come off be down to the sharp edges on a vapcap tip or is that all eraser stem bowls?
