As someone who just got into UPTech about a month ago, my advice for newcomers would be to invest in a decent charger. The free charger is pretty bare bones. I screwed up one of my sets of batteries and while it came down to my own carelessness, it's much easier to keep an eye on things with something like a Nitecore D2. The $20 is worth it.

Also thank you to those who recommended Lighthound for new batteries. I went with the dirt cheap shipping on a tiny order and they still got it to me within a couple days.

I like the new longer globe to replace the mp. Seems like you could fit a whip over it to hook it up to water stuffs. @THC SCIENTIFIC when can I give you my money for those?

@kindbeats So am I supposed to be allowing the oil to cool completely between hits? I guess the idea is to hold the button as little as necessary, and then do cooling draws until the oil resolidify's? As @thegoo mentioned I Think I may have been over cooking.

@starchild Yes, you want to cool the oil down after every rip. That usually solves the leaking problem. Also, try storing the Hercules on its side when it isn't in use.

First, I LOVE my 8! No issues I haven't been able to adjust. (Other than the hollow center post not fitting the SR-74 bottom adaptor)
I am having 2 issues with my Herc SR-71. They are actually issues with parts from the 74 "Essentials Kit".
First, the spring in the gold center post is not pushing the pin out. The pin moves freely, but no spring action. Second,is the same spring issue with the center pin on the bottom adaptor. It is the side that attaches to the vape.

Speaking of which, I blew my center spring, and will need to order another :(
hey i know this is going back a wayz... but how did you blow your center spring? i recently torched and tarnished the gold to a blackish chrome looking tint. its not just a coat of torch residue, it wont soak off or scratch off... however, herc works just as good or better like this somehow... a, i just flirting with disaster?

I have been loitering around these Persei threads for some time now... and I REALLY want an upscale, knock my socks off vape, one powerful enough to retire my dab rig- and I keep coming back to the 8.

But after reading hundreds of posts, I keep being put off by all the mods, rebuilds, and adjustments required by the customer just to get these pens and cartridges operating as they are intended.

@THC SCIENTIFIC ~ Do all the vapes and carts you sell require adjustments, rebuilds and mods; or do any simply work out of the box with no fucking with? Is there a fee to have you tune it so that it functions well before it ships?

My two cents are that your observations are spot on but in the end the W9 devices are probably way ahead of everything else thats out there so you should go ahead and get an 8.

I've got on the w9 bandwagon the last few months. I'm new to concentrates so only had tried the cheaper pens (e.g Grenco) before. I started with an Ophos I bought at a local shop...it came with a 2012 manual and turned out to be an old model (but I still like it as a portable). Then I bought a Persei... through FC sponsor VaporWarehouse because I wanted a black one. Turned out that they too sold me an older model and when I put a Herc on it I blew it out. So I went ahead and got the 8 from w9... few problems once I made minor pin adjustments. The 8 feels so much more substantial and sturdy than the Persei ... this seems like the ultimate device.

So here are my pros / cons with the experience:

Pros:
  • Quality on everything is generally very high. Especially the 8.
  • Everything - KISS, cartridges, herc - performs better than other pens I've tried.
  • Having different configurations is great. I like using the short tube on the 8 with the cartridge as a always-ready portable, and in the Herc configuration its a heavier hitter for home.
  • Most everything is built so it can be taken apart and restored to new quality - in the end thats a good thing. And with the 8 even the circuitry can be replaced separately.
Cons:
  • Instructions on all products are horrible in that you get a 20 page manual on how to take the damn things apart but nearly nothing on how to use it. Hence the "learning curve".
  • The only real instructions you get are from this thread, which can be hard to follow given its pushing 1000 pages. Vaporpedia is way outdated. Gary seems great and makes himself very available, but having to talk to the founder directly to get stuff working says something IMO...
  • ...which is that a lot of these products are complex...especially the herc. They are not Apple products where you pick them up and they just work. I have an engineering degree so I tend not to be intimidated by such things yet with this stuff thats not always easy.
  • Only buy direct from W9. I've learned my lessons.
  • Lots of stuff to buy. Its an investment.
To be fair, w9 makes no bones about the fact that these devices are intended for people who already know what they are doing. It makes sense for enthusiasts but its not for the masses.

Which is to say, @FlyingLow, that you should pull the trigger. Buy the 8, get two sets of W9 batteries, buy cartridges and the KISS (since they are relatively inexpensive), and if you are up for the extra cost/challenge get the Herc too. Then you need the nitecore charger, the ohm meter, and the little funnel to fill the cartridges.

we have hammer rods in stock but im not releasing them just yet, have to confirm one thing with the v4 tops before i do.

Quick update:

After long and crazy road on the Persei tops I'm happy to say we think we finalized the touch button top, the reason I didn't put it into production is we tested these tops and found software bugs, we fixed these and tested more, found more and fixed them as well.

This monday I will get my hands on the final production piece to test out here in USA with our engineer and off to production it goes.

Since we know what the issue was testing should take more then a few days.

Let's hope nothing happens when people start getting them.

The inner white-ish cup of my fairly new KISS cart came out of the bottom screw-on part of the cartridge when I was simply taking the top off the cart. The two wires seem disconnected from whatever they're supposed to be connected to.

Is there anyway I can fix this myself?

Yes, of course. Please refer to @DieHard 's link in his signature. It may be a bit tricky if your wires are too short. But acquire some nichrome, kanthal, or better yet, W9's titanium GR2 wire in their rebuild kit...http://www.w9tech.com/vaporizer-cartridge-titanium-grade-2-rebuild-kits/ and you'll be more than able to keep a good thing going.

ok guys i just decided to show this.

The 8 works with the sr74 no doubt about that and it works well.

Please watch the video, excuse the hmmm parts as im under the influence of some sort of magic elixir i have been using today.

But the proof is there that the 8 works with sr74 and all it requires is proper assembly on all part.

can you get close up pics of a 71 and a 74 with rods at the correct positions please

the first image is for the rod placement on the SR71 and SR74x, its positioned so you can almost see the second contact.

the second image is for the SR74 where the second contact is not seen and a little bit of the white part is missing, its about 1.3mm difference.

I don't think it's quite that simple, at least in my case.. The spring-loaded pin that sticks down on the SR-74 base perfectly fits inside the brass nut/adjustment on the top pin of the 8. This is when there's no issue - the base pin extends far enough to reach the top of the 8 brass pin and misses the nut completely.

However, that brass pin isn't perfectly centered and tolerances let it move around a bit (especially when you press the button), but it's not really noticeable. Unless you are putting the SR-74 on right at this time -- the drop down pin will actually just touch the side of the 8 adjustment nut instead of dropping to the top of the pin. This seems to create a very slight contact patch instead of a solid one - hence whispy operation.

Re-seating the SR-74 will usually get it to fire right up like it should, but it does lead to some inconsistency. Removing the adjustment nut (or tightening it down to the level of the pin) seem to let it work everytime, but not sure how viable that really is (since it'll have to be readjusted to use any other attachments).

Long term ideal solution? Closed, level top on that adjustment nut (so it's a cap, not a nut). That'd make it completely consistent instead of target practice (the bulls-eye being the ideal contact patch for the pin).

Also wanted to toss out the suggestion that there's two brass nuts (at least for those that haven't lost one or both of them yet). All the reference seems to just adjust the top one a bit, but I fear that may lead to more lost nuts. The bottom one should be used as a set nut, then the top one turned down until it stops tight against the bottom one. (Why would would want to do this?) The nuts being tight against each other will apply friction to opposite sides of the pin thread, locking all three pieces in place instead of leaving the top nut loose to fall off (which mine did to vibration while travelling). Got an Infinity nail? Notice how if you use the small and large caps together and tighten it how the inner screw gets hard to turn? Same deal :)

@TommydCat well hold on, you mean to say that you get your Hercules to fire consistently all the time by adjusting the center pin all the way down?

and your concern is that you have to adjust it for other attachments?

The only way I currently see it is there can be an issue only when the SR74 bottom adapter spring contact has lost its compression capabilities, that is why we are upgrading everyone to the SR71 bottom adapter.

But the truth is now the SR71 bottom adapter is adjustable as well thats going to add another factor in the formula.

The whole idea of the center pin on the 8 is if one nut is lost you can still use the other one, but if we make the top nut with a cover and that's lost then its now useless.

Please confirm if your 74 fires consistently with the nut all the way down.

Edit.

I asked for another member to send their 8 in they where having and issue with.

Guess what?

I didnt even adjust anything. I took the Hercules from the video i posted up earlier and just put it on and fired it up.

I already did 25 power ups and all the time it powered right up. no inconsistencies.
