I use the K.I.S.S. cart the most these days.
User error i F^cked up one of my 2 units. (SR71)
When I had it working well the Power achieved was amazing!
Like you I'm looking forward to the 74 improvements.
I have a 2nd SR 71 that I won't even load and I ditto your feelings.
However I just stay with what works for me.

The 2.4 carts I will load with CO2 oil. (OMICRON, OPHOS or SHORTY)
The K.I.S.S cart is my SHATTER dabber. (any device)
Bender for over medicating with flavor. (not a daily carry around town type vaporizer)
TRIPLE PURGED SHATTER for the 74 BETA TRIALS!

Like you I have a NAIL. (Afraid to use it)
Maybe I'll add it to the mix?

I can't smoke joints anymore (Taste makes me sick!)
DUTCH TREAT in a BENDER is my solution!
Until the HERCULES is more stable!

'Tax, you're using a glass mustard jar as a vac chamber but you're afraid of the Almighty Nail? Maybe you need to send me some of this triple purged shatter of yours, it has you saying things.

Kidding, my friend.

Lucky we have a versatile fellow checking out the 74. The hopes and fears of 631 thread pages are riding on you. No pressure or anything bud! :D

I think this is a culprit of some of the user error. People loading only to the buffer when it might not be their buffer and then only getting wispy hits. It's also good to know what you're getting in to, especially if it means you've invested in a device for nominal oil consumption but then have to load a gram of buffer. Unfortunately, this also works in the extreme and you can overload. Walking the line can be hard to do with some of the cut coils. Definitely think the stacked coils are going to help tons. Wonder who texted G the idea... :D

But the old white rods are frying heads right, so the sr74 is a must have unless the heads are redesigned and I'm guessing thats not the case or why make the 74 at all.

The rods arnt the issue thats frying heads, its the assembly.

Ok so here is the skinny.

The new upgrades wont increase performance at all. Other then the AAF. The AAF was made for the Sr71 so thats not an issue.

The new options is a better term not upgrades. I guess my mistake is calling it an upgrade but really is not. So the new options will allow the Herc to be more user friendly but will also increase down time.

Example.

The new SS top cap, they have a thread on it so it wont come off when you take the mouth piece off. Is this a good thing? not sure some people complained about the SS top cap coming out when mouth piece is removed. Guess what issue this brings up? well now your gonna be extra careful when loading because its a threaded top witch means the opening is smaller.

The bottom insulator. This is a step sideways not a step up. This is for the guys that want a never adjusting bottom insulator. You know whats the draw backs? well now when it does go down you cant rebuilt it, you gotta buy a new one. Not really an upgrade, just a convenience thing.

The center post, its for the guys who are having issues with placement of the rods. Yup since they cant and i do mean cant handle the SR71 assembly procedure they need to downgrade a bit and run the Less powerful white rod because the center post requires the new rods which require the bottom insulator.

The AAF well we are opening a whole new line of issues. Guess what is going to be the new complaint there? Clogs, yup Clogs.

So i say this. If you want a all out Unit that you can control every aspect every piece and never had any down time, then keep the SR71.

But if you want a water down version then get the new pieces.

The fact that we can make a vape company evolve as quick as the computer industry speaks volumes about our capability. I have yet to see another company evolve so fast.

I hope this solves the argument.

Now on to Ataxian anyone says hes getting anything for free needs to get their facts straight. Everything Ataxian has is because he purchased it on his own either by funds or a exchange. The red Omicron is the only thing we exchanged with him for a prototype wooden desk top holder. Yes from time to time we exchange units for work or products but thats not a reason to attack him. The reason hes getting a SR74 is because of his medical condition. We want to see how he does with the newer features.

I just want my new white rod, stackable coils and AAF.

G did I read that right... I cant use my current open center post with the new lower watt white rod?

You'll need a 74 for the new White, as it requires the upgraded top chamber of the heater core.

But do you have to use the 74's bottom insulator? Can you interchange with the 71 insulator on the 74?

Im a huge fan of evolution.

My button is acting up even more so I'm just on edge about a fix, funny how it jumped up to must have status for me.

The open center post can be used with the new white rods. The new white rods can work on the older bottom ptfe insulator.

It is when you choose to opt in for the new bottom PTFE insulator that your gonna need the new center post and new white rod.

You'll need a 74 for the new White, as it requires the upgraded top chamber of the heater core.

But do you have to use the 74's bottom insulator? Can you interchange with the 71 insulator on the 74?

The new white rods will work with older posts, but older white rods cant work with newer center posts.

I think my problem was the ceramic rod placement so would I be able to just get a replacement for the center post alone and it would work with everything else normally in the SR-71?

Pretty sure center post means the top half of the heating chamber, in which case, you'd need the new white rod along with new bottom insulator.

Im going thru hell with my herc sr71 the past few days.
I used finished with a iso bath to clean everything but the rod and now Im getting a blinking light even withouth the bottom insulator. This thing is giving me one hell of a headache. =[

I've been there, buddy, except it was a migraine for a month.

Double check your assembly. Might be missing a PTFE collar. Pay special attention to the bottom half of the heater core, the contact platform and slotted sleeve.

@masaki, can you post an image of your rod/center assembly (like this)?

For those who might be wondering about the black rod issues I had awhile back....it was not due to a bad rod, or user error. Saw G test it today on Skype, and it worked fine. It turns out the non AW 3.7v battery I was using was just not strong enough (or possibly damadged?) to "push" the device. I would suggest that anyone with black rod issues look to your battery first. If it is a non AW, then I would be suspect about it if you are having issues.

"OF" already called me out for this.
He's right!
As I will raise my vacuum pressure I just may make this glass jar explode!
My wife who already thinks I'm extreme will roll her eyes!
Now tomorrow I will build a new vacuum chamber using solid materials to with stand the pressures I'm striving to achieve.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that 'He's right' bit, had to happen sooner or later don'cha think? We're probably safe from a repeat for a while anyway........

A couple thoughts on vacuum implosions (explosions go out, right?). The risk is from flying glass, there's just not enough energy involved in such small volumes to be a risk that way, but shards of glass have been known to make a real mess, the glass tends to shatter to small bits and fly everywhere. The EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety guys, the 'Safety Gestapo') at a lab I worked in would pass a glass vacuum chamber that size if it was fully taped up to keep the shards from flying. Typically we used fiber packing tape.....sort of like the windows in a Battle of Brittan move, only complete coverage.

They showed us some scary photos and even a little high speed video of a desiccator with an intentional flaw letting loose.....makes a believer of a guy.

The problem is flaws/damage to the glass. The vacuum dedicators we used (to store specimens, not remove solvents.....) were about the size of a soup pot and almost an inch thick for the most part. Had a big rotary valve made with a ground glass cap, like a giant GonG fitting. A chip would lead to a failure.....the nature of glass. Common food jars hold 'full pressure', vacuum can only be 15 PSI, by the time you're in the mm of Mercury range you're there pressure wise.

You can make a really robust chamber on the cheap with a tube (pipe works fine, only 15 PSI....) capped with flat plates with grooves wide enough for the tube and deep enough to hold an o-ring at the bottom. Valve in one end plate. You just hold it together and start the pumping, let the pressure hold the ends on. If you make one of both ends from thick enough plexiglass you get a view of what's inside as well.

Not sure what advice to offer about the wife, sounds like she may have figured you out already? Lots of divorces in California......

Good luck with it Amigo, stay safe.

I spent the late afternoon working on a vacuum chamber (took a old cast iron pot and converted it.
Should be safer than my cheap glass jar. This was cheap as well just a bit more labor to convert.

My wife is pretty cool actually however she thought my glass jar was a little iffy.
I just wanted some wax. However I was called out for not enough surface area too.

Hopefully I will make some shatter worth loading in the HERCULES SR74 without any mishaps?

At least your influencing me to use more caution!
