No matter the classification, I love it!

I just did a little burn off after removing coil and wiped down the sides a bit. I ran my buffer and such down low before doing this. Didn't get back to new, but I didn't expect it to with just such a tiny effort. But upon reloading with a different strain, still TASTES great. Burmese skywalker taste really coming thru. I'll post if my og coil gets bad tasting, but so far so good.

Im wondering if I fouled my coil faster than most due to excessive use? I was an early adopter and I put about half a gram of concentrate a day through it, errday until my tops blew last week. How much do you guys use yours?

Easy and effective vapor production, quality components that are user serviceable. The more I use the SR-71 the more I consider it medical equipment.

If I were taking care of an elderly person who needed pain management I could load .5-1 full gram and hand it over. I could clean it for them once a week and throw any leaked oil back onto the coil and waste nothing. Don't be afraid to take this thing apart and learn how it works. It took me a couple times to feel confident assembling the unit, but the packaged instructions are good. G's video of assembly is a great resource for new users too. It takes 20-30 minutes to fully clean and reassemble, and most of that is reclaiming and iso soaking.

I haven't cleaned the coil since I got it. I've vaporized roughly half an ounce of different shatters and a few grams of reclaim with the same coil and the taste is still pristine, but that's my experience with the product I've been vaporizing.

I'm sure the manual is being updated and that's where most of the improvements could be made imo. I haven't had insulator contact problems, but it would be nice if the instructions mentioned their correct alignment. I also wish a denser ptfe was used for the outer heat shield and mp components. I'm going to get myself a second set.

The SR-71 is a piece of medical equipment

That's about what I do now, although it was more like .75 a day when I only had the 7.4 v version. Mine still tastes fine (same coil since August).

IIRC that's a PTFE shell, not plastic.
Edited, thanks. Just to clarify my PTFE pieces have held up well. I slightly deformed the notches in the retaining collar unscrewing it with a dime but otherwise everything's good. Because there is so much threading, the ptfe material should be dense and resistant to deforming to help prevent damage from user error and sloppiness.

I think I am gonna get some for my Omi. My Herc has earned its place as my daily driver. I'd use the Omi/KISS cart for times when I need to be a little more :ninja:-like.

Update on my experiences with the black stick(I no longer want to use the term rod, sorry).
I haven't tried it yet:(. I know everybody was saying better taste, but I am just digging the white stick so much right now I haven't had the desire to change. I am going to clean my white one in a few days and figure that's a good time to switch them out.

I hear you, hard choice for me. I run both. If I find a real tasty wax, the black cause slow, steady and tasty - like sipping fine wine. If I want meds quick the white, major vapor production like a shot of Jack. Life is great with choices...

@Caligula - lets see couches and now staplers. Can’t wait to see what is next.

I find the white rod works best for me at 6.7 volts.
Not sure if this has been covered yet but for those of you with The Iris: when you turn it off it applies power to the cart for about three seconds. Make sure to keep inhaling unless you want burnt tasting, clogging carts. It's enough time to get a nice little hit from the Herc.

I'm glad someone mention that about the power. I've noticed as well. Someone needs to measure and see if it is the full power or what you have it set at.

I’ve been playing with the voltage level on my Iris/Herc(white rod)/Persei setup. I raised and lowered the voltage in 0.1v increments around my 6.0v starting point. The idea was to find the best power level to vaporize at where you could just mash down on the button and hold it throughout the hit.

Maybe I’m deluding myself but below about 5.8v the hits got a little too wispy for my liking and above about 6.2v the hits get a bit harsh and started to make me cough. I’ve settled on 5.9v for now with the Iron Man Budder that I’m vaping. @ataxian you should love being able to dial in maximum flavor! Cloud chasers can increase power to whatever level they can stand. Me, I’m a pleasure chaser.

Yes, the v1 Iris's biggest quirk is the power applied to your cartridge when you're just trying to turn it off. I too get a small hit just from the 3 seconds of spurious power. But the Iris has some very useful features too. Holding down the + button shows you the resistance of your cartridge (mine's 1.5 ohms with the white rod). Since shorts and open circuit problems can occur in the Herc setup, I always check the resistance before I start a session. Once I got a reading of 2 ohms so snugged up the Herc/Persei connection, retested and it went back to 1.5 ohms. The extra .5 ohm resistance would have been 12 watts of power wasted in the connection at 5 amps of current flow. People, make sure to keep your electrical connections clean and snug!

Also, if you hold the - button down you will get a battery voltage reading which is a great battery charge level indicator. I wish UPtech had just done a quick fix to the v1 quirks and put out v2 quicker. The Herc with a variable voltage top seems to be a match made in heaven.

I've been using my white rod at 6.3v recently. My wife likes it 5.7v because it is a little smoother.

17 grams of extract with the same coil. Amazing!

You guys vaping .5+ grams a day floor me! I vape about a gram every 10 days or so. 0.1 gram per day. I must be the lightest, light weight around here!

Yes, the v1 Iris's biggest quirk is the power applied to your cartridge when you're just trying to turn it off.

While I agree that's a big issue at times, I don't agree it's the biggest. Iris also is famous for random fits of full blast output. Not that big a deal if you're already pushing lots of power of course, but I retired mine after it blew a third 2.4 Ohm Omicron cart when set to 3.6 Volts out.

While a second or two of a moderate jump in power is one thing, this is well over four times the normal power, it was fatal to 3 otherwise good carts (two basically 'brand new'), in fact it blew both heaters in two of them, something I'd never seen before. Others reported this issue at the time. Again, something you wouldn't normally see running at higher voltages since the power jump would be smaller.

The other features (load resistance, raw battery voltage, and so on) are actually pretty common features, the very sort of stuff you'd expect of similar units. I have 5 such units (from four different makers) that have these features right now, six when Iris gets fixed and returned to 'fit for duty' status. A couple of them also feature 'regulated power' (as opposed to regulated voltage) useful with some loads, not others, but still a nice option sometimes.

I was just like you.
However this guy named Bob made a video that gave vaporizing WAX a new meaning!
Then around the same time "G" from W9 TECH makes a instruction video making thick white clouds.

I thought I was the biggest light weight since PEE WEE HERMAN!

So I went from 1 gram every 5 weeks to 5-7 grams every 4 weeks!
However I'm still a light weight compared to most!
I do a good 0.5+ a day when I'm running trials.
Medical Research!

It's all good really.
If you can achieve the same level of NIRVANA with less material that's even better!

You know I have 2 VMODS that do that too. I wondered why I blew some carts... Might be similar in design

For your increase in wax use, blame Delta9/TET. If they didn’t make this crap it would be too much effort to suck down so much wax...
Just throw some in, hit the button, bingo.

Talk about wax run away... Sometimes you must reset by going dry for a while or it gets costly

BLAME "G"!

It is his fault!

Triple Vacuumed Purge Shatter in a HERCULES SR71.
0.5 of a gram only!

WOW!!!

Now I know why it's called:

"Couch Lock"!
