I find that while using my Herc with the Iris...I put the cart on check the ohms and im at 1.4-1.6. After I take a hit, I read at 2.1-9.9. Is something coming loose after it get warm???
That means its mainstream!

Sunny please call right now I'm here and would love to diagnose it over the phone.
Aww shoot, I left for work about 15 minutes after you posted that. Good news though, after much tinkering I was able to get the SR-71 working with a black rod at 3.6v (imr 18650)! I did a number of things to get it working:
- I heated the ceramic rod with jet lighter before tightening the nut with my hand (and shirt)
- I positioned the ceramic heating rod correctly
- I cut my oil coil to about 1/3 of its regular length, so its a 33%/77% cut
- I had to unscrew my insulator screw 1.5 rotations (I tried in 90 degree rotation incriments, counter clockwise)
My hits aren't huge though with a 3.7v black rod, and a 33% oil coil. I'd say they are probably the same volume as my 5.0ohm cartridges at 7.6v. I'm using a mixture of soft shatter and dry blonde crumble wax, I've put roughly 0.75g-0.9g into the oil coil. Regardless, I'm pretty stoked I got this thing working and I feel like I really understand it now.
How should I go about getting a new single top (old one got shorted by the SR-71 with a white rod at 7.6v). The SR-71 also killed two of my imr 18350 batteries too unfortunately, are those eligible for replacement? I'm in the bay area and I can meet somewhere locally (a W9 dealer perhaps?) to get replacement parts if it would be quicker than through w9tech.com.
Can you link me to something that objectively compares the Efest batteries to the AWs? If they are on the same spec level and are on par performance wise I'd get them. You're SOL on the babatteries as far as warranty is concerned. Good news is that you can get a pair of Efest 18350 IMRs from Amazon for $7 (plus about four dorra for shipping) Those are euqal to or better than the AWs. I'd buy two sets and invest in an Intellicharger i4 battery charger (also on amazon)
I always make sure the words hercules SR71 and the caution hot are on the bottom. I never have threaded it on the wrong way. I did get it used as you know, but when i first got it, it fit fine. So Im not sure how it got cross threaded@Mynameismud the cross threading happened when you put the shield wrong. The words Hercules SR71 has to be in the bottom. Just a heads up.
Glad you got your parts and your up and running.

Yeah. I find looking at the threads helps, because its sometimes hard to see the writing with the glossy finish. The mouthpiece threads are thicker... Just a tip for everyoneI hear not saying you did it, just seen a few and the cause was improper shield direction.
It's happened to me a few times of selecting the wrong side so it's notable issue but glad your up and running.

the Efests are good i say almost dead heat with the AW IMR but the 900 and 800 are the same the efest being better at this point.
Has anybody used the HERCULES SR71 loaded with FULL MELT?
I am planning a sessions without a coil and 0.25 gram.
Look's like I'm the Lab Rat?
No that doesn't show anything to be perfectly honest. That's like saying the generic IMR 18350s included in the Persei kit are the absolute best solely because that what it came with. I'm not saying either battery is bad, I'm just curious how they compare.W9 Tech sells AW and not Efest brand batteries on their website. Is that objective enough?

Bottom line is I believe in general a guy is well advised to follow the maker's advice on batteries, and what he provides with his units and offers for sale for use with them is an excellent guide.
