I find that while using my Herc with the Iris...I put the cart on check the ohms and im at 1.4-1.6. After I take a hit, I read at 2.1-9.9. Is something coming loose after it get warm???

That means its mainstream!

PhotoRider,

Today I was playing with my quiver of new flower strains: GIRL SCOUT COOKIES & DUTCH TREAT.
Plus I have a Gram of FULL MELT HASH

Tomorrow I plan on loading the HERCULES SR71 with the HASH less the coil.
Do you think that will work?

Otherwise it's the BENDER first thing with a new strain!

Trying to stay organized:

Mine goes from 1.5 ohm to 1.8 when hot. I think it's designed this way to get hot fast. 9.9 sounds way too high tho.

Hedonismbot,
Sunny please call right now I'm here and would love to diagnose it over the phone.

Aww shoot, I left for work about 15 minutes after you posted that. Good news though, after much tinkering I was able to get the SR-71 working with a black rod at 3.6v (imr 18650)! I did a number of things to get it working:
- I heated the ceramic rod with jet lighter before tightening the nut with my hand (and shirt)
- I positioned the ceramic heating rod correctly
- I cut my oil coil to about 1/3 of its regular length, so its a 33%/77% cut
- I had to unscrew my insulator screw 1.5 rotations (I tried in 90 degree rotation incriments, counter clockwise)

My hits aren't huge though with a 3.7v black rod, and a 33% oil coil. I'd say they are probably the same volume as my 5.0ohm cartridges at 7.6v. I'm using a mixture of soft shatter and dry blonde crumble wax, I've put roughly 0.75g-0.9g into the oil coil. Regardless, I'm pretty stoked I got this thing working and I feel like I really understand it now.

How should I go about getting a new single top (old one got shorted by the SR-71 with a white rod at 7.6v). The SR-71 also killed two of my imr 18350 batteries too unfortunately, are those eligible for replacement? I'm in the bay area and I can meet somewhere locally (a W9 dealer perhaps?) to get replacement parts if it would be quicker than through w9tech.com.

You're SOL on the babatteries as far as warranty is concerned. Good news is that you can get a pair of Efest 18350 IMRs from Amazon for $7 (plus about four dorra for shipping) Those are euqal to or better than the AWs. I'd buy two sets and invest in an Intellicharger i4 battery charger (also on amazon)

Can you link me to something that objectively compares the Efest batteries to the AWs? If they are on the same spec level and are on par performance wise I'd get them.

@Mynameismud the cross threading happened when you put the shield wrong. The words Hercules SR71 has to be in the bottom. Just a heads up.

Glad you got your parts and your up and running.
I always make sure the words hercules SR71 and the caution hot are on the bottom. I never have threaded it on the wrong way. I did get it used as you know, but when i first got it, it fit fine. So Im not sure how it got cross threaded

I hear not saying you did it, just seen a few and the cause was improper shield direction.
It's happened to me a few times of selecting the wrong side so it's notable issue but glad your up and running.

Yeah. I find looking at the threads helps, because its sometimes hard to see the writing with the glossy finish. The mouthpiece threads are thicker... Just a tip for everyone

Also, LOVE the stickers i got. Ive put some to good use already;)

Has anybody used the HERCULES SR71 loaded with FULL MELT?

I am planning a sessions without a coil and 0.25 gram.

the Efests are good i say almost dead heat with the AW IMR but the 900 and 800 are the same the efest being better at this point.

W9 Tech sells AW and not Efest brand batteries on their website. Is that objective enough?

I’ve been using my SR-71 for about 3 weeks now and I’m loving it! I load up enough wax for 2-3 days of medication at a time. Taste is great and remains good after 2 grams have gone through it.

Never had a short or an air flow problem. Never had an open circuit after I adjusted the bottom insulator screws. This vape instanty became my daily driver. I hope UPtech stays focused on refining this design (e.g. to make if more idiot proof).

Anyway, I just wanted to post some info that might be useful to SR-71 Iris owners or those that are getting the Core pass-thru power supply. For the Herc with a white heating rod I calculated the voltage levels needed to match the power levels of the blue and black rods. The range of voltages represent the difference in power due to a battery voltage range from 4.2v down to 3.7.

Blue rod (1.3 ohms) = 4.5 – 4.0v

Black rod (0.8 ohms) = 5.7 – 5.1v

Of course, ultimately, you’ll pick a voltage level that vapes your material optimally but this can give you some starting points.

You're the lab rat alright!
Without any coil I'd be afraid that oil would just pool up at the bottom of the cartridge and eventually leak into the bottom half. And it might cause some serious clogging. Let us know what you find.

Because you're planning on putting 5 grams of concentrate through a Herc before cleaning it you inspired me to hold off cleaning. I'm going to start loading some Jupiter OG Co2 extract into my Herc.

Hey THC Scientific, what is the quickest way of exchanging my persei single cartidge top? I'm in the bay, could I potentially do this locally? If not, what is the best way to go about this?

No that doesn't show anything to be perfectly honest. That's like saying the generic IMR 18350s included in the Persei kit are the absolute best solely because that what it came with. I'm not saying either battery is bad, I'm just curious how they compare.

Edit: woops sorry for the double post

@SunnyStefan

G took a set of Efest 18350s from @Atomsk when he drove down here to help a couple of us out with the Hercules. He said he intended to test them to see how they compare to the AWs which are the standard from which most 18350s are judged. A few weeks later he posted that. Also if you Google you can find 3rd party testing showing empirical data backing this up.

On a side note, W9 states the stock IMR Persei batteries are decidedly not up to the task of running a Hercules. They reccomend and sell AW brand batteries for that purpose. They do NOT sell Efest yet the owner of W9 is saying the Efest units are as good or better. I'd say that's pretty impartial.

The efest are great batteries, but I have found from reading reviews and such, that the aw still performs better overall.
It seems the efest once they reach a certain voltage then they dont keep outputting as consistant as the aw, the efest also say there are 800mah vs the aw 700mah but seems the aw last a bit longer since it can hold its output longer even as it drops in Volts.

Some people claim that they do last longer , might be a factor of breaking them in first them comparison testing , the efest cost about half the price and are up to par with the aw.

These Efest batteries are an excellent value for the money. In real-world comparisons against an AW IMR 18350 in my PVs, the performance is indistinguishable, for half the price.

I was really excited about getting them. The first month they held their charge & would charge quickly and be at 4.2 volts, when they were charge. I've noticed that they aren't like that anymore. A charge doesn't last long at all anymore. Also, it takes a full 12 hours to charge them now and they only can hold 3.8 volts. I wouldn't recommend this product. Buy your rechargeable batteries at a more reputable site.

Haven't had problems myself Alan, but I tend to use Efests as a back up to my AW's, which go on and on for me . . . using AW's that are 2+years old and have been charged many times.

I've got two and, touch wood, they'v been OK. Not as long lasting as the AWs though, despite a supposedly higher rating, so I'll be sticking to AWs for future purchases.

Can't remember where I saw it but I'm sure the 18650s performed very well in tests (comparable/better than AWs) but the Efest 18350s aren't as good. Useful/cheap backups though.

Weak compared to the AW's but none have died.

Use Efest 18350's in a mech mod but only when we're out for a drink/meal & they last just fine for a few hours, they're around 3 months old & never really run down much past 3.5v & always recharged before they need to be.

No problems so far with mine but not really a good measure 'cos they're only getting light use occasionally.

http://www.dampfakkus.de/akkutest.php?id=344

I bought two Efest 18350 and they performed as well as my four three month old AW's,

but another three month on and the six month old AW's definitely out perform Efest,

the Efest discharge quicker and don't charge as high as the AW's now,

but to be fair they were half the price of the AW's and are still usable....

Hope this helps.

I guess I disagree, what it shows is those batteries are not offered for sale by D9. They don't promote them for whatever reason. Entirely different from one they recommend/sell IMO.

And the argument that the generic IMRs originally provided relate in any way to the extreme demands of SR71 is way wide of the mark, IMO. They were a cost effective battery for the original use of Persei.....and still are, really.

Bottom line is I believe in general a guy is well advised to follow the maker's advice on batteries, and what he provides with his units and offers for sale for use with them is an excellent guide.

Hopefully soon Brother Haywood will ride up on his white charger and make us all wise, until them I'm sticking with 'the factory battery'.

That's the efest vs our generic imr.

That statement isn't about aw imr which we think is far superior then the efest or our generic. Please look at the numbers. The 900 is the generic idea the 800 is the efest.

Hope that helps to clear it up.
