@SD_haze, congrats to the win. :) a two-tone sounds really cool. i hope @Dan Morrison will still follow-up on his original idea of a tutorial with materials and techniques for decorating the box. will the number actually be engraved somewhere? @1_gr8_underdog you will be holding the "Answer to The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything" in your hands. :)

how many countries are represented in the first 50? just curious, who else is not from Canada or the US.

Yo!
I set an autoreply to my mailbox with the response :spidey:

I opted for a two-tone:

If Dan would be willing to mark the package as a gift, my understanding is there's less chance of customs charges in the UK. Not sure what implications that has on Dan's end.

of course it goes only, when Dan doesn't have to face any negative consequences.

Contrarily to popular belief you are not exempt from import tax/charges in the UK. If the item is marked as a gift and at the value of £36 or above you are still liable for charges at the current rate of VAT @ 20%
Art items vary depending on medium. Original one off items or custom items are usually taxed and charged at just 5% if marked withh the correct commodity code.

My other interest includes street/urban/graffiti art and I regularly have pieces arrive from the states, sometimes you are lucky with charges sometimes not....its luck of the draw it seems in the UK.

Bugger....never got either email it seems and missed the preorder , disappointing :(

oops... too late looks like @Dan Morrison already posted customs/shipping info .

i know, that a gift tag, doesn't give you a tax free pass. attaching a lower value to something, which is not really quantifiable in the real world outside the vaporizers world might help to reduce the taxes though. because, lets face it, nobody knows the value of a handcrafted vaporizer besides the people on this board. i often get the "oh is it really so expensive" comments for my mflb items and the vapman. people don't believe the high price, which leads to the assumption, that they will easily believe a low price. small wood items are to be cheap in the eyes of the real world. nobody will believe a solo costs only 30quid, but a mflb or a vapman would not lead to a raised eyebrow. back in the days at least, when they didn't have the exposure they have now. and the Okin is so obscure, even on this board. :) a customs officer will be happy to avoid the unnecessary paperwork for dealing with polished peace of african wood. this is how the okin will be probably seen. again i'm not advocating putting a lower price tag, if it leads to legal complications for @Dan Morrison. but if it doesn't, i'm happy to not to pay my taxes, since by vaping weed i am already doing something even more illegal and probably even breaking some silly law everyday without even knowing it.

sorry, you missed out on the pre-order.

@axakal - I won't be putting a lower value on my packages. Sorry.

But I will for sure be releasing some sweet tutorials on how to paint and decorate your boxes!

@delloy - I'm sorry you did not receive the email. It was sent to your icloud email, not sure if that makes a difference... it was the only icloud email on the list. I double checked to make sure you were there. Perhaps it got tossed into your spam folder? Either way, I'll PM you, and we can figure something out!!

@Dan Morrison i understand, that you will not put a lower value. but maybe you could just leave out the bill. in the past, when ordering "obscure"(i.e. gn0me, vapolution) items from the US, they easily passed the customs without any trouble without having the bill inside. the package might slip through. if not, worst case, i'll have to show them a copy of the invoice and everybody is happy.
looking forward to that tutorial. :)

Cheater!

Just kidding haha, I should have thought of that. :bang: Congrats on being able to get the very first production model Okin! Also, I'm really digging the two-tone idea. I should have done that with Lexington green and Snow white (school colors), but I think I'll stick with one solid color. Definitely looking forward to pictures of your box however.

I'm not sure how proficient Dan is with milkpaint, but how about something like this?

my%20little%20pony%20games.jpg

That would also allow for a lore. Something like the stem of the Okin being made from the horn of one of these ...

When we receive ours we can apply illustration stickers/tattoos (or an "Okin" insignia if ever made) and seal with a natural clear shellack if we want. I think I'll keep mine plain & simple (Green tavern). I'm so excited to be getting this gem!!!

That is pretty funny. I got #3 (also chose lexington green) and I was thinking the same thing.. "Damn, those 2 people were FAST because I was on the re IMMEDIATELY."

Has anyone seen the black milk paint in person? On my screen it looks sort of blue-ish? I'm wondering if it might look cool after some time but the green is already imprinted on me as the "classic Okin look"

Congrats and thanks to Dan for getting all the way to this point!

Dan, I have to agree with your course of action. While to other people it's "just one time" for you it isn't. Cover your butt and people can save up the extra $8.25 while on the waiting list. ;)

#20. Super stoked!

That said, people asking for the bill to be left out of the package. There will likely still have to be a customs declaration affixed to the outside of the package, and they usually require you to list contents and value.

i don't know, why they didn't require that list from the sender on my earlier purchases. because two out of my three purchased goods from america didn't include any information and i didn't ask to do so. out of three times ordering vaporizing equipment i had only to deal with the customs once. and although there was a printed bill inside, they asked me to bring one with me(they were too lazy to check properly inside the box), but without even checking it when i was there(why bother to ask). so my conclusion, based on this little data, probably the sender is not required to put the bill inside, since the receiver will probably have to show one anyway. summed up, if and only if, the sender is not required by the postal rules to put a bill inside, there is a chance the package can slip through the customs. if it doesn't, one would have to show up with a proof of payment and pay the import tax. omitting a piece of information that is not absolutely required(shall it be the case), is probably not ilegal and not the same as declaring a lower price and i don't see, why it should be considered as such. the seller recieves the payment, pays his taxes at his end, the other party recieves the packages and pays or not(if lucky) his import taxes. packages slip through customs every day, so it's not even unjust towards other people. the fact, that the system allows lots of packages to slip through is, on the other hand. :)
for us EU-byuers, import taxes of around 25% add a significant chunk to the final price of this beauty, so i hope you understand, why i touched the issue. my intend is definitely not to cause any trouble to Dan.
the protection of a home industry is ofthen the main aim of import taxes. but there is no industry present in this particular segment, that needs protection. so it's just a hefty rip-off by a party that didn't contribute anything to the act of creating the device, the exchange of money and goods and their transportation.

on a different note, will we see more reviews and videos from the testers soon? :)

As @Walter Bishop pointed out, when Dan ships the Okin, he will have to declare a value. Customs does not normally open a package to look for a bill. That would only happen if there was reason not to trust the declaration. Since Dan won't make a false declaration, whether he includes a bill or not is not relevant. If he does, however, it will have to match the declaration.

How about those in-depth tester reviews. I know you've already explained alot of things about usage and who would like it and who not, but you haven't really given us your personal opinion. Do you use it often? Has it gotten a special place in your life? What does your wife think (assuming there is a Misses Pakalolo)? and so on ...

I would include the other testers' names but I've forgotten who they were, and they really haven't chipped in at all yet, if I'm not mistaken
