I went with mustard because that's the one that stayed in my head.

A couple of things: first, please don't ask Dan to do anything illegal to avoid paying duties and taxes. It's a little money to you, it's his business to him.

Second, please let's not turn this thread into another shipping disaster. Talk about the Okin, not when you ordered/expect to get it.

I was getting lost in this thread again and I came across this moment,

I'm adding one more the the pot, Ōkin. A mix of kindle and Oak. And it's got a Japanese vibe which I like.. considering the bamboo and overall design inspiration..

I think I like it most of all..actually...

Considering you had picked a theme back then, the choice for bamboo seemed obvious and out of discussion. But now that the choice for wood has been made since it has better durability, is there a reason why Oak can not be used? Flavor, or burning, or something I'm not thinking about because I'm not an experienced Pipe maker/smoker?
Its just my authistic mind wanting to make it right with the name and all

I did barn red, hope it turns out nice. Its just the box sleeve, not the actual box I believe. The box itself is much too beautiful to cover up with milk paint.

I may be in the minority, but I've never cared for electronic vapes. I get bored of them, and I never really develop a relationship with it. Had a volcano and sold it even. Okin has what I've been waiting for!

Ha! Nice find! That quote feels nostalgic in a way.

Oak could be used, but it's a very porous wood, with very open pores. It will tend to trap condensed oils and resins in the pores and they won't be easy to clean out. And the fine details turned into the stem, where the metal screen is tied, may tend to splinter, or the detail in the edges will get messed up by the large open pores.

This is why very dense hardwoods are better suited, they can hold the details much better. Cocobolo is to chedder as oak is to swiss.

I'm #2! So glad to finally be on my way to getting my own Okin. I haven't been very active in this thread, but I've been following the progress of the Okin almost obsessively for a while now. I was sitting there constantly refreshing my email a half hour before 3:00 haha

I signed up for the box painted in Lexington green and I'll be sure to post my own pics and first impressions when I receive it. Congratulations to everyone else who got in. I'm sure you're all looking forward to it as much as I am (Maybe not quite as much ).

Also, not sure who beat me and got #1 but damn you must have been fast. I had my response already copied to my clipboard before the email came.
