Might go with one of each......

Will different hardwoods be offered? That could open a can of worms! Haha.

I like them both by the way. I'll be happy either way.

Haha, you're right, this could be a can of worms! But, I don't see why it would be any more difficult than using the same wood every time. So long as I keep it within certain bounds... some woods are just not suitable, i.e. they are too porous, soft, or chip and crack too readily... It's best to stick with the super dense exotic hardwoods, as they have that nice combination of strength and beauty.

Sad news... I just saw my Postie depart without leaving anything in my mailbox. :(

I was looking forward to trying the new charcoals. On the bright side, I'm getting better at picking the right ones from the bag I already have, so my sessions are getting more consistent. It wouldn't be fair to say much more until I've tried the hardwood charcoals.

I do like the look of the new stems.

I suspected this would happen. The mail lady said that the mail truck came early yesterday. *sigh* Small town problems. It was guaranteed next day shipping.. It's just a shame that now we have to wait till monday!

Would Sitka Spruce be a possibility? How big of a piece would you need to produce the stem? I think I might have something for you.......

A bit on the soft side, in my opinion. But It would probably be OK if you had a piece that had very tight growth rings. Old growth/slow growing trees are best when it comes to these sorts of woods.

I believe it would also be harder to clean, and be very prone to getting dirty on the outside, without a protective hard film finish, which will sort of mess with the tactile feel of the wood itself.

Thanks for the knowledge!

I'm hesitant to talk about my beta unit too much as Dan is in the process of making his change with charcoal, and also I'm still learning how to wield this little weapon. Rest assured I'll be giving all of my thoughts when everything is dialed in.

In the meantime, enjoy a teaser vid. :brow:

Love the look of the hardwood stem. Super nice Dan. Hardwood 100% not just for the look, but I also feel it will bring relief to the many challenges you were facing from the bamboo. I can't wait Dan

Damn it stu. Your killing me.
