This wait is killing me lol, I want it so bad!
Here's the final prototype for the slip case part of the box.
The sleeve is made from a single long strip of natural fiber kraft paper, laminated together with wood glue. Each wooden box is wrapped in it's own laminate, so every slip cover fits it's matching wooden box perfectly.
You can read about the Kraft paper process here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraft_paper
The result is a light, strong, stiff, and snug fitting slip cover that looks like leather and feels like wood. Since it's made as a laminate, there are no thick seams to snag or come loose, and the corner bends can be the same thickness as the flat segments for far superior strength compared to paper-over-board construction.
Upon order, you can request to have your slip cover finished with linseed oil and beeswax to give it greater stain and moisture resistance. This also gives it a deeper colour and richer feel. Though, if you plan on painting your box with waterbased inks or paints, I would suggest that you order your slip cover unfinished. After you decorate your slip cover, you can finish it with the oil and wax of your choice, or just leave it plain.
I may also offer some special editions that come pre-painted.

This forum is wonderful. Everyone is polite, well-spoken, and helpful. I don't know that I could ever leave.
Granted, vaping goes through flower at a slower rate than combustion. I rolled a fatty for Throwback Thursday last week.pick-up combustion again, no spare money - no VAS
@Dan Morrison The box is as beautiful as the DM Okin inside. I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to purchase when it's ready.

I want the testers to get the final production model, so, they don't have it yet.
Actually, I don't even have a final production model yet. But the last prototype was very close, I will be making a couple small tweaks once my raw materials come in (just waiting on brass screws). And then I will have the final model in my hands! Trust me, I am as excited as you are!
I think that the time taken to really tease out the important details, and consider every aspect of the design is going to be well worth it!
I cannn tell you, for what its worth, that I get very positive reviews from people who try it... And personally this is my daily driver without a doubt, this is what I was looking for in the vaporizer market and could not find. But, Im totally bias, hahaha.
Anyhow, Ill have some juicey box pics up later tonight. Since I dont have all the parts to start making the vaporizer, Ive been focusing on the box making.
Also, Let me know what you guys thing of this idea....
I have always loved the creativety that cannabis seems to attract, or inspire. I like seeing the ways that people personalize their joints, pipes, vaporizers..etc.. I would love to actively support the customization of the okin through detailed tutorials on my blog.
You could think of them firmware updates...well..more like hardware updates!
Some updates would be very simple, and use household materials, and some would be more complicated.
For example, If you wanted to install a paper tray on the inside of the box to hold the charcoals, I would provide a printout of all the cut lines and folds for different sized trays, then have some detailed photographs of the process and show examples of different paper colours/patterns. That would be a very simple one.
More complicated tutorials would cover the use of tools, sewing machines, paints, etc..
The idea is to vape, learn some fun crafting skills, and come away with an Okin that is truly your own.

What do you think about temporary vinyl stencils? Different shapes/letters could be cut from a piece of vinyl which would then be applied to the Okin temporarily while you (or the customer) paints/sharpies/etc the exterior of the Okin. The vinyl would be 1-time use and disposed after the paint dries
I have a 30" Vinyl printer/cutter (Roland PC-60) in my basement. The print head is shit, but the cutter works perfectly. All I'd need to buy is some Low-Tack vinyl (so it's easy to remove after stenciling).
I think that's a great idea! That way you can keep things simple, and people who want a little more customization can do it themselves and add their own personal touch. Love it! Everything about the Okin is awesome, can't wait till I have mine. I'm literally drooling over this thing and I don't even have it yet!

@Ratchett, thats an awesome idea! But it does move away slightly from the whole DIY feel. Ideally I would like people to be able to use things they already have. A friend of mine cuts out stencils from regular printer paper with an x-acto blade and it seems to work just fine for painting t-shirts.
Paper, x-acto, tape, paint. And you're good to go!
I guess I like the idea of people getting actively involved in the crafting. You could offer a custom stenciling kit, with everything you needed. But I am more interested in that feeling you get when you do something by yourself, from scratch. I think, then, you are more likely to experiment, and the end result is always more special.

My problem is I don't have a steady hand to safe my life. And my OCD kicks in, so needless to say, I avoid any sort of art which requires a steady hand. Hell, I refuse to cut in trim when painting a house!
