The Nomad From Morwood

That’s just insane. Going to be over 2 years since you paid by the time it’s in your hands. I don’t care how beautiful Dans work is, or how much time he puts into each one, that’s pretty unacceptable.
I'm nearly 10 months from paying for a batch 3 spot. Honestly, everyone who's paid has gotten one and I trust him to get it to me too eventually.

I think you meant, 'I personally would find that unacceptable.'

While admitting it's impossible to not get impatient from time to time (grrrrrtoadsgrrrrr), I can't claim surprise- as we saw the N1 sleeves coming out I laughed to myself. "This guy's timing is veeeery optimistic!" Since there's never any question that Dan will deliver what he's committed to or that it will be beautiful and meticulously, even obsessively crafted, it's just "when?" Which, when boiled down, translates to "Whaaaaa, I want my new toys now!"

And who doesn't? The wanting mind is never silent. I just buy other stuff while waiting. (Looking at you, @VGOODIEZ ; thanks for helping sort my wanting mind this afternoon.)

Eh, it's nothing super unusual. I have spent a few years on waitlists for other custom items (folding knives, wood chess sets, etc.). Anything as involved as the Nomad is going to take time to make, considering it's entirely handmade. This crosses over into art, which you can't rush.

Yeah, that's fairly common with pieces of art like this. I also collect knives, custom costume jewelry, and several other things. My buddy got screwed when the guy making his custom piece had a medical problem. He never saw the money. They hoped the guy didn't die, the last they heard he had a stroke. My buddy's been waiting for about 12 years for his piece now, lol.

Sounds like this vape and experience isn't for you then. Who are you to tell us what's acceptable?

Don't bring your negative energy here.

If we want to wait for years, it's our choice and completely acceptable.

There's plenty of other similar vapes that you personally can get much faster so go ahead and get them and bring yourself to those threads instead.

@xtraclipsforxtrashit You're talking to a bonafide future Toad owner here! haha.

In any case, I do think @Arawfish has a good point. Had I known the wait would be so long, I would have set up the expectations for that wait in the first place. The wait time was a big mistake on my part that I've been working hard to remedy and overcome for current/future projects.

I think this is more about expectations. If someone expects to wait years for a custom made piece of art, that's one thing. If a person is told it's going to be x months, and it ends up being x years, well... that's something else entirely.

The good news is that the Nomads in batch two are going much MUCH faster. I've learned that the difference between a first batch.... into the unknown, and any batches thereafter is night and day. I'm hoping to wrap up all these Nomad IIs fairly quickly.

Is Batch 1 completely & totally done and shipped out now? Meaning it's full steam ahead on Batch 2?

I'm in batch 1 and Dan has said mine will be shipped in a few weeks time.....beyond excited, mine is the Karelian (Masur) Birch Nomad. Not only do love the look of that wood but it has a really special family connection for me too. Trying not to think about it too much, gonna be a sweet day when that beauty arrives ! Thank you @Dan Morrison

I had a mockup of that one and considered it greatly. That's going to be stunning, congrats.

Not trying to be negative, a bit of discourse is healthy I think. Dan summed what I meant perfectly anyway, it’s about the expectation. I have no problem with the wait, as I’ve been waiting a long time myself. I purchased my Toad 3.5 months ago and am still waiting for it to arrive, no problems though.

The only point I was trying to make was waiting that long after payment has been sent is a little wild but whatever I guess haha, you seem fine with it. Cheers mate.

Yeah sorry my bad anyway. Don't know why I took it so personally.

Anyone got me beat? Paid for a Nomad 1 on 4/29/19. Switched my name to batch 1 for Nomad 2. Still don’t have it yet so next week is my three year anniversary on the list. I expect to be the last of batch 1 due to some special details.

I paid 3/15/19 for one of the last batch of Nomad Is, but to be fair to Dan I had a *lot* of special requests (including things he may not have done before) and long discussions to figure it all out, so I asked him repeatedly to prioritize other people who were less patient and make sure that we get this right.

I do wish I had it in my hand right now, but I’m sure that it will be worth the wait and I don’t want anyone to feel like he’s screwing me over because he’s done far more for me than I feel like I paid for.

If anyone is upset about the delays, I get it. I hope that I’ll at least be able to get my Batch 2 Toad in my hand soon, and I hope that his future build time estimates will be much more accurate than the past estimates were, but everything I’ve seen tells me that he is working hard to build something amazing for every one of us and I still believe that anything Dan makes for us will be 100% worth the wait and more than 100% worth the money.

I’m not saying you can’t come here and comment on delays, that’s up to the mods, but I hope that most of us will be willing to recognize that Dan’s basically a one man shop doing some amazing, difficult and time consuming things for every one of us, and I truly believe that he is doing the best he can for us on projects that turned out to be a lot more time consuming than he expected. :2c: :peace:

Also, Nomad #90 is going to be awesome!
