The Nomad From Morwood

I made something similar out of Oo-Goo for my Mi, (however you spell it) it's like silicone putty. It's flexible and fits like yours and allows you to stir without mess. It's not fancy, I never got past my prototype because it worked to too well.

I'll take a picture of it later in place, will make more sense.

This is it, not a great picture, but you get the idea. Being flexible makes use and storage pretty easy.

I don't know what batch I'm going to be in (not second), but I'm just patiently waiting...living vicariously through others here as they receive theirs.

Please keep satiating us with pics and videos, new Nomad owners. As it's all we non-Nomad owners have in this crazy world at this moment!

@Dan Morrison If you can find some time, could we have a few pics of the second batch in progress, please?
Thanks! :)

I haven't been taking too many photos of the process this time... doesn't feel like I am capturing anything new since last time. BUT, I got some highlight snaps for ya to check out.

Trying a new image hosting site... RIP Imgur... I will miss you... Let me know if these photos show up alright.

Here are some burls, two-tone African Blackwood, and cocobolo, all hand planed finish with matching bottoms plates and bronze.

These woods don't have any finish on them... so I can't wait to see how the pop when they do! The woods in this batch are just awesome.

I'll be using a new finishing method for this batch... should be exciting.

Here are some lichens and abalones ready to be inserted into their finished button housings.

The lichens are pretty unique... I collected them from rocks on the shore of Lake Superior... the only place I've ever seen these yellow cups on green. Very cool!

Seeing these images only confirms how dedicated, talented, and customer conscience our man Dan is and why we are so supportive and patient as we await and anticipate the day of our Nomad's arrival. I must be honest, I really like the artistic flair the paper sleeves bring to the Nomad, but sure would like to see them with the sleeve being used more for decorative purposes rather than a functional one. The workmanship shown in the images truly captures Dan's obsession to achieve perfection. I imagine one of these complete with the collar and stem and the sleeve decorating and protecting the vaporizer. Than removing the sleeve when getting ready to use this beauty and marveling at the outstanding craftsmanship and attention to detail of Dan's efforts. Dressed or naked these vaporizers capture what can be achieved when passion, talent, creativity, and customer satisfaction are the motivation rather than just making a dollar. I am praying Dan will be able to reap the financial rewards to allow him to continue his praiseworthy endeavors. Finally, without wanting to seem impatient, is there a timeline for the second batch of Nomads to be completed?

Those box elder burl really look great.
I love the patterns and grains in my burl. They seem to move and change as they catch the light reflected off the nomad. I tend use it naked most of the time. This little vape definitely delivers in the looks department. I find myself admiring more than hitting on it at times.

Mines not getting much use due to my hands. I tend to save it now for special occasions.
Happy Labor Day all!!

Even thou it's not a daily driver still a joy to have. It's like a fine wine or fattening treat something I wouldn't drink or eat daily. But when I do it's really savored and enjoyed.

@CL52613 , Thank you friend! And, timeline is end of September... some of the custom painted sleeves will probably go into Oct. because they tend to take a couple weeks to hash out.

This batch is moving so smoothly... with all the jigs and steps figured out the crafting process is going much faster!

@HerbieVonVapster , Those weak springs are-a-comin'! I hope they'll really do the trick. And thanks! :)

Thanks Dan no real rush. That another joy with this vaporizer. No internal batteries or anything to break so it going be around for a longtime :)

For most the people spring isn't a issue. My thumbs is just really weak in my good hand. Till I get the spring I just consider it another hand exercise. It's much funner than the ones at PT thats for darn sure. :)

So this morning my coffee hadn't kicked in and I merged two posts, one from @wild anchovy and one from @Copacetic, somehow thinking they were from the same member. The correct posts are:

My apologies to both of you.

I too have barely used mine unfortunately because of hand issues, pretty much only using a log through water at home and pen cartridges on the go lately... This is a collectible we all know though! Even if I had full dexterity again The Nomad is just so pretty and I am too ocd to risk a scuff lol

Technically this is a batch one Nomad but I asked @Dan Morrison for quite a few customisations so was happy for Dan to take his time.

He has been great and together we came up with the below design.

Stunning burl!

There is one more coat of wax to go on the device and we are swapping out the lichen button for one with a bit more orange in the lichen to match the general colour scheme.

Really looking forward to getting my Nomad so I can have a play.

Stunning work as always @Dan Morrison, great working with you.

Thank you.

That's another beautiful piece GH, really stunning.
I particularly like the spalting/burl combo, but the sleeve is also very very nice.
Loving the light to dark gradient.

When I first saw the top pic I thought Dan had made you an extra short sleeve to show off the wood!

The engraved plate is a nice touch too.

Thanks guys, I'm really pleased with the design.

I thought about asking @Dan Morrison for a shorter sleeve or one with a window in it but I figured it broke the Nomad design specification so kept with the default sleeve dimensions. That gave us more sleeve space to play with.

I love the engraving, it meant me and Dan had to move a few elements around but it worked out really well.
