Anyone catch this last night? It wasn't one of the better UFC cards and the fight I was most excited for was a stinker. We all thought Shogun was gonna tear Coleman's head off but couldn't finish him until late in the third. Coleman was gassed by the second round, as was Shogun. I am really disappointed as all signs point to steroid use for Shogun in his pride days because the guy that fought Coleman looks nothing like the guy that tore through the 2005 middleweight grand prix.
Denis Kang also disappointed. The guy has a lot of talent and was actually outstiking Belcher for the majority of the fight. He also dominated the takedowns and while he didn't inflict much damage, he had positional dominance for most of the fight. I've noticed that Kang loses focus easily and this fight was no different, after dominating for close to two rounds, he goes for a sloppy double leg and gets caught in a guillotine. For someone who trains at ATT, his BJJ should be WAY better than that. What a disappointing debut, so much for calling out Anderson Silva afterwards...
Franklin/Hendo should have been a 5 round fight. 3 rounders just aren't long enough to decide the superior fighter. It looked like Franklin was turning this fight around but Hendo did enough greco roman, ground control to get the split decision.
Davis/Lytle fight was pretty good but nothing like I imagined it would be. I was suprised to see how huge Lytle looked, usually Marcus Davis has the size advantage but not last night.
One pet peeve of mine is, if you are goiing to throw kicks, use some technique or at least don't fall on your ass. It looks pathetic when they throw kicks, slip, and then fall. You wonder if they practice any technique at all...
