Here is a shot of a "no-stir" spent bowl and a dab'o fresh for comparison.

Maybe it's my monitor, but that looks like significant conduction to me.

Reminds me of my Ascent ABV.

Yup. That's what came out of my Ascent as well. The ABV that comes out of my LSV, and previously, my Buddha, Ion and Purple Days never looked like that. The only vape that made my ABV look like that was from my Ascent. Kind of a reddish brown.

Thats ridiculous. You realize you can combust with 100% convection...?

Sure. But how would pure convection produce perfectly-even, perfectly-browned ABV without stirring? It's nearly impossible, given the exigencies of the convective process...the air that hits the bottom layer is always hotter than when it moves over the top layer, hence the need to stir.

I don't know exactly how that ABV was produced, but it wasn't via "no-stir convection". I've produced years worth of ABV via convection and none of it ever looked like that (not without tons of stirring).

Isn't there an easy way to settle this? Fill up a bowl and run the device at moderate heat without drawing, and see if anything is consumed via conduction. In true convection, the weed will look untouched.

I only got my Crafty a few days ago but I've found that if I take off the cooling unit and use it with a miniVAP cone and basket module, I can definitely get almost 100% convection as the heat source is taken away from the herb at the end of each hit. the herb definitely does not get as dark when I use it this way as it does when I use it like a normal person (with the cooling unit), and the taste is different as well.

there is definitely some conduction (and thermal radiation) going on with the Mighty when you use it as designed. I didn't think this was a controversy. it's by design. it's only a bad thing if you don't enjoy it... personally I like having the option. extremely versatile device :science:

I don't think there's any controversy. However, this was posted earlier:

Here's a little quote from an email I exchanged a while ago.
"The conduction comes from contact of the filling chamber to the heat exchanger (that is needed to heat up the air). The conduction has a very minor influence on the functionality during vaporization.

The main concept is the convection which assures a steady hot air stream to vaporize efficiently."

And I must say that to my eyes it looks like "minor influence" might not be quite accurate. But maybe I misunderstood?

Of course I realize that, but it's the very even reddish brown that I'm talking about. The only vape that I got this kind of very even overall dark reddish brown ABV is from my Ascent. Others are debating between the amount of conduction/convection going on. I'm not. I'm just sayin' what my past experience has been in regards to the color of the ABV in the pics above regardless of what the reasons are, but being that the Ascent is the only vape that I have ever used that was a conduction/convection hybrid, to me, it seems logical that the S&B's would produce the same color of ABV.

Will have one in about 2 hours when I get home. Can't wait to open it up and try it.
First bowl. I'm amazed I can even type this, holy wow, was everything they said it would be. Will report more later, I'm now taking it behind the middle school to get it pregnant.

Only issue, but this could be how screwed up my spacial sense of time is, is it seems to be shutting down earlier than a minute, no biggie as hitting the on button brings it back quick.

Welcome to the fun . . . :)

Regarding the auto shutoff. The only time it has ever caught me is when I was demonstrating the device and doing way too much talking and not enough vaping. Any draw that lowers the temp over 4 degrees F will keep you going or you can bump the power switch. Not an issue unless you talk to yourself in the mirror too much while vaping like @mvapes does . . . ;)

Convection/Conduction . . . seems to me to be like an 80/20 mix, which is a rule in some corners of life, so I like it. If you really want to know how much just do a bowl, empty it out into your palm, and then stick your pinky finger down in there. I have snapped the cooling unit off after taking a hit to see a slight wisp of vapor coming from the bowl but it wasn't very much.

Can this vape be a "weed hog"? YES! Thank goodness! :) I wouldn't own it otherwise, you guys know how I roll here in the land of free flowers. But it doesn't have to be, its very versatile.

Received the car charger today, my travel kit is now complete.

Edit: If you stick your finger in a hot Mighty and get a burn, its on you (figuratively and literally), but then you will know . . .

What amazes me is how low I can start my sessions allowing me to maximize my sesh.

I've started as low as 325° with light visible vapor for 2 or 3 hits. At that level of temperature the flavor was nothing short of awesome!

I try and increase temperature by increments of 10° after 2 or 3 hits at each level. By the time I get up near 400° my load is usually a nice dark ABV.

I find in conduction type units like this where there's really no protection for your herb from radiant heat than the lower the temperature the better.

One of the most brilliant things storz and bickel did here to avoid charing was opening up the air path for easy pass through.

Unlike other vapes with a restricted air flow that traps significant heat in your herb chamber. Portables have been infamous for this for years but as of lately they seem to have overcome.

Whatever combination it is, its 100% magic.

Morning after report, I guess you never forget your first time. All my worrying was for naught, the Mighty lives up to it's name.

I only had about 3 bowls, trying perhaps 3 different strains, and the performance was incredible. I tried a full bowl, a half bowl, and 1/3 bowls using the heat pad on that one, and every time it exceeded my expectations.

I would start at around 330 and move up 10 degrees at a time every few minutes, (part of the fun is finding your own way "Candyland" like through the different temps, every time, charting a slightly different journey)

I could go on and on with the positives, but wouldn't be adding anything new to the form. Everything everyone said is true.

So far, only two or three quibbles, but just adding to be fair and balanced.

1. Sometimes when I draw, even very hard, at small temps, the unit would only go down 3 degrees, not going the full 5 degrees to avoid the auto shutoff. At higher temps, no issue, but at around 330, I would inhale very hard, and the dial would only go to 328 or so. Pathway isn't blocked, so will look for the cause of the issue some more and see if it keeps happening.

2. Temp read out feels slightly cheap to me, and I worry I might break it in the future, especially since the Mighty is so powerful. I could hardly make it to my bed last night.

3. Standing, using the orange pick attachment. DO NOT DO THIS. Yes, the orange pick can be pulled out, reversed, and the until will stand. But in no way do I recommend this. There is no way the unit is stable enough, and it will fall. Mine did, nothing bad happened but I vowed never to repeat that.

I do wish the unit was made so it could stand, loading would be easier if you didn't have to hold between your legs or with one hand. The loading tool is neat, but I see no real reason for it, loading is easier and neater for me just pouring it in from the container I keep my stash in.

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is cleaning the cooling unit, but by that time, I'll probably be so in love with it I'll want to give it some cleaning love.

As for the money spent, that number is quickly fading into the past, it is well worth it.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I did not stir the bowl, not even once, and every time the abv came out even and dark.

Don't be intimidated it's simple! It's not reccomeded to submerge the plastic in ISO longer than and hour. I do it for about 15-20 min use about 6 q-tips to wipe it and then your done.

I'd imagine this is simply due to the unit being set at a lower temperature. If the Mighty only has to heat the ambient air being drawn through it up to 330° instead of 400°, there is less heat that needs to be applied. At that point, the heater is able to keep up with your inhale. At higher temps, the air has to be heated even further, at which point your inhalation could pass the capabilities of the heater.

That's my take on it at least.

Thanks, that would seem correct to me, definitely not happening at higher temps

I'm very new to owning a vaporizer (only own an Air, have very limited experience with plugins), but my impression is that this is spot on.

higher temp means it's gotta crank out more energy to heat it up and maintain said temperature compared to the ambient. since these are portable units, I doubt there's really any way around this (aside from a complete bypass of the battery to plug into the wall and suck juice like a plugin, possibly? Totally a layman's guess)

anyhow, these units look amazing. When I went to pick my Air up, they had a few units on display in the foyer, and I was tempted to ask them to just let me upgrade on the spot. Couldn't believe how tiny the Crafty was, and the Mighty is basically the size of a pack of ramen noodles.

I'm pretty amazed at the engineering that goes into these things. The damning thing is that I want to try every one of these vaporizers at some point, and it seems that means owning it, since I don't know anyone that has one :p

tl;dr version: this looks awesome and I want to try both some time this year :) hopefully I didn't derail too much

I'm kind of in a state of dis-belief to how good this product is. I keep on waiting for it to break or stop working.

I even took my first step in cleaning the cooling unit, and it's no biggie in giving it a minimal daily clean to keep it working well.

I can't belive I fretted over the price, now I think I want a Crafty for extreme portability and stealth. Someone please stop me.
