I have had my MFLB now for about 3 years (I still use rubber bands around it!). While I brush it after each use, there is still a thick build up of gunk inside the trench. I have, in past, cleaned it with q tip and rubbing alcohol and gotten most of the stuff off with no problem. So several days ago, I used a q tip and rubbing alcohol to clean the trench, but only got tiny amount of gunk off and now I am having intense coughing each time I use it. I did try a water dampened q tip, but it did nothing to reduce what I am thinking is nasty alcohol fumes/vapor. This is very frustrating as I am a severe asthmatic and the coughing triggers bronchospasms. And the reason I vaporize is to keep my lungs from that type of stuff. Any way I can get rid of the nasty alcohol? I have used it now at least twice a day for several days, but no luck so far "burning" it off. I also tried with heating it with no herb in trench.
I am even thinking of purchasing a new MFLB, if that is the only way to solve the problem, but I am on a fixed income and would rather not have the expense. By the way, I have used several strains of herb, so don't think the herbs are the issue. Thanks, and feedback is appreciated. By the way, is this something MFLB would replace the unit for?

Just ask them. If your LB has indeed been rendered unusable, then I think your chances are good. On the other hand, this kind of contamination almost always disappears after a few trenches. Don't give up on it too soon.

It should dry out by itself. Maybe a dry burn or two and leave it with the lid opened for a few hours?

When this happens you will see a noticeable "fuzzy" look to the two rods.. that is likely where the stuff is built up...
it absorbs alcohol and holds it if you dont get it all off.....
my technique:
I rub alcohol on a q tip on the two rods.. damp.. not wet.
I do not agitate or try to dry... I wait a few seconds and repeat, and do it again a few times.
Then with a damp but well squeezed qtip (NO WATER... That makes the gunk worse~)
I rub a bit more firmly back and forth on the discolored rods...
You will start seeing metal..
and when the stuff is almost gone, I dampen it (BARELY)one last time,
then use a dry qtip in a stroking fashion along those bars....
They look good by now, and The last step is to eliminate that taste you spoke of....
Depress the battery with the LB open to let the Iso fumes rise off the screen.

To present another method, I generally use alternating burn-off/iso cleans. Hold the battery until no more vapor is produced from an empty trench, lid open. Then swab with an iso qtip to wet the gunk and then lightly with a dry qtip to pick it all up.

Repeat until the trench looks fully clean and the dry burn produces no more vapor. Voila, good as new.

If this method fails I'm sure e-mailing Magic Flight would be helpful.

I'm in the process of warranty-ing my PA. The email I got from MF says that I'm to take a photo of the area that I think is causing the PA not to work properly (dial, cord, battery, etc). My questions is, how am I supposed to know which part of the PA isn't working properly? The problem with mine is that it is providing one constant level of insufficient heat. The amount of heat does not increase or decrease based on the position of the dial and is not enough to cause vaporization. Any thoughts on which part of the PA might be to blame? I want this warranty process to go as smoothly as possible and so I need to provide MF with the necessary info.

Thanks in advance!

From the sounds of it, the center part with the dial is the problem. I'm guessing they want to see it's not been abused, they will ask you to abuse it (cut the cord/smash it?) and send that photo (like they do for replacement boxes).

I'd send a photo or two of the center part, if you're careful how you set it up you could cover all bases with including the head in the shot?

You're welcome if it's been of help, good luck with it.

now and then, i use my PA at 100 while cleaning my rail buildup by carefully scraping it off w/ a smooth metal edge... the hard buildup comes right off IME.

I just ran that gauntlet...too easy. I had the same confusion...since the damage is internal, don't worry about capturing in a picture.

Cut the cord for the PA near the dial unit and near the battery insert (I left about 2-3 inches on each) wrap up the cord and take a picture of the PA, cut cable and cut off battery insert with the serial clearly visible.

You'll get an email quickly letting you know that your warranty has transferred to your new PA.

Anyone know what the turn around time on warranty service is looking like now-a-days? Been a little over a week since I was assured my warranty would go out in 3-4 days, sent follow-up e-mail, radio silence thus far.

My turn-arounds have always been no longer than 2 days from shipping to in hand, but I live within 40 miles of their facility so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Check your spam folder!

Second the spam folder check! The shipping dept uses a different email that my spam filter keeps catching. Unless there are questionable photos or circumstances, its usually 48 hours until you get a tracking number. On all my returns (6+) except one I've had the tracking number before I got the confirmation email.

MF rawks!

I agree with checking the spam folder as well. I must say, though, that my turn arounds have always been extremely fast too. For example, MF had a tracking number for me on a Friday, and I had my order the following Monday! And, I live all the way on the other coast!

just had a great weekend away in Cape Cod, MA this past weekend. brought the MFLB along for the trip and it supplemented my vacation perfectly. i was able to take nice sips of vapor on both the car ride there and back to fight off my tendency to get car sick. also, worked great on the private beach at the resort i was staying at. the days at the beach i brought my MFLB and stealthily took hits from it under my towel that i was pretending to use as a pillow. the newest logo batteries were able to help me take the solid micro-hits that i wanted with ease. another great mini-vacation made even better with my LB!

Has anyone had difficulty lately in reaching MF customer service? I've e-mailed them twice about my faulty PA within the past 3 weeks with no response..

You might want to check your spam folder. I had contact with them yesterday. I know they are getting ready for a really big trade show, so they could be more busy than usual.

Yeah, I have combed through it. I'm not feeling like a valued customer :( Somewhat understandable I guess if they have a big event upcoming. Thanks Vicki.

I know Magic Flight values all their customers. They aren't a huge company, and have expanded a lot recently. Sometimes when a company grows quickly, it's hard to keep up with everything.

Just to clarify , because I did it wrong the first time .

You did contact them thru their warranty page ?
Basically open a ticket .
Then ,
Did you get an Instant Auto reply ?
acknowledging that you sent them an email ?
That's the correct way , so I found out .

And yes , their actual reply was in my spam box . idk why .

Question about the charger MFLB comes with. If I buy a Maha Powerex 2700 mAh batteries to upgrade, can I recharge those in the charger that MFLB comes with?

Yes.

But you may want to check out the new Magic Flight batteries. I have used the 2700s for a long time, but I recently got some of the new Magic Flight batteries (with logo on the ends), and I prefer them to the 2700s.

Yes I do believe so your MFLB charger is a smart quick charger.
