Power Adapter for the Magic-Flight Launch Box Review
My apologies in advance if this is a bit disjointed; I'll come back later and edit for coherency as I'm currently vaked out of my gourd. If you read this soon after I post it, you might want to come back later to see what I've forgotten in this first ramble.
I've been a daily LB user for about 6 months. It's my first 'real' vaporizer, not counting a scary fishbowl/soldering iron thing that I tried a few times 15 or so years ago.
I've always felt that the LB high was a very clear, functional one with little couch-lock. The downside was that there seemed to be a lessened medicinal effect compared to smoking. Less pain relief, muscle relaxation, etc. I should also say that my material is not medicinal grade, but is from decent outdoor grown hybrids from a friend of mine. I typically use Powerex 2700 HSD batteries.
After one use of the PAMFLB, I feel that this is no longer the case. This is an entirely new LB experience in my opinion. No more need for micro-hitting, nose breathing techniques, etc., and I didn't even have the PA dialed up all of the way.
OK, that's the main point, how it works. Now I'll try to break down the mostly pros and very few cons.
The wall plug is an off-the shelf looking UL listed wall-wart with an LED indicator to show power. This leads to the custom part. A metal tube framed by the wooden endcap/feet. The adjustable dial is small, located inside what appears to be a hand cut and beveled slot in the metal tube. The turn resistance is fairly stiff, making it impossible to move by accident. There are no markings to indicate which way is which, but it was quickly apparent that turning the dial toward the wall socket end increases the heat. I'll probably end up making some marks for minimum and optimal settings once I get a better feel for it.
The metal piece that inserts into the LB is nice and solid, and appears well machined. The tiny little button on the end presses easily with a nice functional 'click'. It also appears well made and installed, very professional looking. Width wise, it fit into my LB version perfectly, with just the right snugness. I have the pushback ring installed, and the extra long nipple on the PA worked perfectly as well, sliding into place with a solid feel.
My first attempt I think I almost combusted, as I was used to waiting about 5-6 seconds before hitting the LB. The PA was producing heavy vapor in about 2 seconds at the (guessing here) aprox. 85%-90% mark. Clouds were more like smoke clouds than vapor clouds. One of the drawbacks of the LB in my opinion, is that it's a 'personal' vaporizer. The slow speed of the hits, the battery usage, the technique needed, all prevented it from being very good at being passed around. My wife and I even have 'his & hers' LB's. Using a LB in a party setting is right out, especially with people who have never used it. The PA changes that. I think that the PAMFLB is now a great party vape. The momentary push button is intuitive, and the hits are big and fast enough that gathering around the tethered LB won't be a big hardship.
Bottom line: MF has really come through on this. It works way beyond my expectations, and I feel that I now have the best of both worlds: a portable, stealthy vaporizer that you can take practically anywhere, and a powerful home unit suitable for passing around. The clear functional high is perfect for being out and about; and the Holy Fuck What Just Hit Me High is perfect for when you're going nowhere and have no responsibilites.
If there was some way of marking the wheel in increments that would be gravy, but that's my biggest want at this point. I'm in love all over again.
Time for another test run.
(on edit - 2nd test run confirmed everything and more, so I was inspired to add some stuff in the 'Bottom Line' paragraph.
