The problem with the kitchen torch is it extracts masterfully but you're always on the edge of combustion. In fact, I combusted yesterday but just barely. I had charring and just the beginning of ash and some smoke yuck. Now I gotta clean everything, and that cap can't be cleaned well.

I will add that my kitchen torch, a Roburn, is pretty well made, although it was having some problems shutting off. Like it wouldn't until you slid the on/off switch back and forth a few times.
Usually I have found this to be caused by having the flame set too high for the lighter.
