The problem with the kitchen torch is it extracts masterfully but you're always on the edge of combustion. In fact, I combusted yesterday but just barely. I had charring and just the beginning of ash and some smoke yuck. Now I gotta clean everything, and that cap can't be cleaned well.

Being a cheap thrifty guy I tend to try to get the most out of my herb so I am often on the edge of combustion, and occasionally do slip over. The good news is that while the Lotus cap is right next to the combustion, there is no smoke going through the cap. It is only hot air. I tend to pull the cap immediately when I combust just to get it away from the smell but I have rarely noticed it absorbing much.

I will add that my kitchen torch, a Roburn, is pretty well made, although it was having some problems shutting off. Like it wouldn't until you slid the on/off switch back and forth a few times.

Usually I have found this to be caused by having the flame set too high for the lighter.

So, I tried to perfect my reed stem today cause I really like this idea. It can save people money if in need of a new stem or just add another option to the armoury...

A little more sanding all around, inside the WA hole and around the mouth opening, a couple of tie-wraps strategically placed to make the pipe more stable and it's production ready!!!
It's almost double the size of the original long stem, cools a lot better so it's a nice match for concentrate consumption and can be done in half an hour or so. If you have a Dremel tool to make the WA hole faster than with a knife and sand paper, all the better.
The REED Lotus gives some really nice hits. Try it out!

Well , they grow all over the place here dude (Greece), by rivers and streams usually. You sure must have some around you somewhere if you don't live in the desert. Don't know where they sell them, sorry. Maybe do a search for bamboo instead?

I like it very much, only thing plastic tie wraps are kind a punch in the face

Maibe a couple of nice small tapisserie nails could aestetically be better.

Most probably yes… But then again the dry bamboo/reed easily cracks lengthwise…

hi temp model as an addition to the Lotus line. The standard Lotus will still be available and both will be good for flowers.

Can anyone tell me why would I want the standard lotus if the new hi temp model is also available if they plan to sell both?

We don't really have enough information to answer that yet. All we know is that it will be a redesigned cap designed for higher temps, which is presumably for concentrates and denser goods, made to fit on the standard Lotus bowls. Details like price and how else it is different are only speculation so far.

Makes sense. Not sure if I want to go ahead and buy the lotus, heard theres a huge learning curve which kind of scares me because I share with 1 other guy 90% of the time. I wouldn't mind figuring it out if I was a solo toker.. but alas i need something thats easily picked up since I am a social toker that needs it to be portable (it travels between 3 places) but not necessarily stealthy(not important, mostly indoors/yards/camping).

Personally, I have not had great success teaching my friends how to use the Lotus successfully. I bought a used one for my friend, but can tell he already killed it from excessive improper torch use (I don't have the heart to tell him he killed it).

Sadly we don't know much about the upcoming high temperature version yet, aside from the fact some parts were being shipped from the factory to Mendo, so it may be coming soon.

The Lotus is a hard hitting fun vape once you learn how to use it, but I never bother bringing it out to social gatherings because I spend the whole time handling the torch for people (I REALLY hate when friends accidentally combust and let the smoke fill my Lotus cap )

Me on the other hand, never had any problems teaching the ways of the Lotus to newbies… They are usually just fine by the second bowl in rotation 3-4 tokes in. Never had a combustion event either. Maybe it's the way it's been explained?

Maybe, I gave up after trying to teach the 4th person. I even show them videos on youtube! It still doesn't help, for some reason they keep the torch in one spot letting it glow red hot

I totaly blocked my eds tnt solo stem with reclaim mixed with abv that made it through the screen. Scraped it out in large blobs and put onto clingfilm. Put in freezer then straight into my lotus bowl.
After first hit it turned to oil and i thought would just run through the screen into thr stem. However 20 or more hits later all that was left was the abv it came with, none ran through.
I got 2 large bowls full, was pretty blocked.
That took a lot of heat. And i always use pollems, black etc that require higher temps than grass.
Excuse my ignorance but what is the higher temp plate for. Like dabs?

I've taught three people and all of them got it on the firs try, and better than I! For some reason my teaching method keeps them from combusting, while I still combust from time to time. The only person who didn't get it was too fucked up to hold the torch in place and, obviously, he didn't need it at that moment!

how hard is it? from what I read so far, you light up the center until it glows then u circle around outside of the middle? I have no idea how this works, just know that it requires a technique and that it wasnt newb friendly (self admitted newb here!)

This is exactly what the guy I usually toke with does. Everytime I let him use it I cringe at how long he leaves the torch on there glowing red. Tho somehow he almost always doesn't combust. He brings it right to the edge and usually kills the bowl in 1 hit, buy surprisingly I think only combusted one time.

maybe you are overthinking. it is very intuitive.
If your coordination is normal than it is very easy to use following basic rules from manufacturer and with a lotus lighter o something similar (thin-sharp flame stable when used horizontally)

If for you it is a problem to coordinate your lungs (how fast you take your hit) and the arm is using the lighter (always making small circles in the very depressed center, getting closer or more far away from the plate), than is better to skip over

After you see red glow -- back off! You will get vapor at this point, and there are only three factors that determine how dense that vapor will get, or even bring you close to combustion:

1. Force of inhale -- the slower you draw, the more dense your vapor will be. Conversely...
   
2. Torch distance, duh. If you back off too far after seeing red, the vapor production will stop. If you lean on it too hard you can combust. I usually back off a lot and then re-introduce it a bit during my hit.
3. Torch flame length -- if your flame is too short, it will be hard to get a good hit regardless of technique. And if the flame is too long, it can be harder to refine your technique but it's better to have too much flame than too little. The most important factor here is consistency of flame length.
