The Lotus Vaporizer

Actually I have made numerous posts about flame length in the past and as the manufacturer states the flame should be between 1/2" and 5/8". And the easiest way to do it is to keep the flame length (the thick part) about the same as the DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TIPS OF THE LOTUS FLOWER LEAVES ON THE HOTPLATE. :p

And about the flame going out when you hold it too close to the hotplate, as was mentioned before, I really think it's because of the lack of oxygen around the flame. It sputters and it goes out after a couple of seconds... I always keep a distance, just the tip of the flame touching the surface after the first two secs of heat up.

Well, I've had some more time to play with my Zico lighter. It's actually still a PITA to fill. Unfortunately, even at max length, the flame isn't very long. I find that while it does heat enough to get the lotus going, it's a much slower to raise the temperatures. That said, it's not as loud as the Honest lighter, but MUCH more reliable. I can put the flame damn near touching the metal plate and it's still going. I just wish I could make the flame longer.... Maybe I'm not filling it enough?

Last night while outside sharing a D020 and the Lotus, I lifted the WPA by the new handle MT recently released, and my 18-14mm reducer stuck to the WPA just enough to clear the D020 and hit the floor, cracking and chipping one side!!! Thankfully it's only a $10 reducer, but now I need to buy another one!

I'm thinking about getting a 15degree angled male to female adapter from Oregon Glass this time around - maybe tilting the lotus at a slight angle will alter the heating characteristics (better or worse? we'll find out)

Has anyone tried a double v-flame torch with the lotus?

I was thinking of that one but a dual flame one would maybe suit the lotus more?

But what do I know I just half combusted some blue cheese now it's blackish cheese the honest lighter can go too hot randomly

Been reading this thread since deciding on picking up the Lotus and so much is about lighters. It's clear, as some members have said, the lighter is an integral part of the Lotus experience. I'm spending a lot of time trying to zero in on a couple of good ones, but as usual the collective expertise of FC would benefit all.

There was a post suggesting a Lighters thread or a Mod created chart that we can all contribute to, to narrow down the best lighters for the Lotus.
I'd like to second that request(sorry I went back and couldn't find the post, otherwise I would've liked and quoted it) for an interactive chart(if that's not too much hassle for the mods)to find the most Lotus friendly lighters.

Thanks and happy weekend.

I received a couple things today, 2 WPA handles (I sent 2 SASE, 1 with a $1 for a handle and 1 without for screens; they sent 2 screens and a handle in each) and my order from thick ass glass (aka thick-quality-glass) including that 18mm j-hook I linked earlier.
This was the first time I've hit the Lotus dry, and it was impressive. Loads of flavor!
I prefer some water filtration so I've been using an inline ash catcher with a little hot water in it. Makes for a great mobile piece, at least around the house.
I'm enjoying the handle, it makes it easy to lift the whole assembly reliably. My magnet has never held the WPA comfortably.

@Snappo how much? It's perfect! Does it hold water in the bend well?
Regarding price - I know this'll sound crazy, but I don't know yet - he hasn't charged. As soon as I see the debit in my account I'll PM you. I do know that it'll be in the $40-$50 range, IIRC. Very reasonable I think:). $38. base price ... only a few more bucks for the custom touches. I think there is also a discount code going until 4/20 - 15%! He has been pretty busy lately, so expect at least a few weeks to craft then ship. Yes, it will hold a bit of water, but as I've used it so far, I find that the vapor path length and design cools well ...nice smooth draw too! One thing more of note: It can be made to stand upright given the two feet, but tips over very easily as it is too delicately balanced, so not to be trusted that way (best only for picture posing). However, the feet do serve their intended purpose perfectly by permitting the pipe to lay in a prone position very securely. I'm loving the whole experience!

Snappo, are you the blower behind Lotus Glassworks? I'm a little confused because it didn't seem like you were from your previous posts on this page, but you used the first person when posting the discount deal.

My girlfriend is nagging the hell out of me about my clicking lighter at night. My Honest takes 2-5 tries before I get a flame, and the "click, click, click, click, shhhhhhhhh" jet sound is driving her nuts.

Are those lighters y'all recommended [above] quiet? Or should I just order more Honests and hope I get one that is more consistent?

I find it interesting, it appears from all the feedback on FC that the more expensive lighters are no more reliable. I would have thought otherwise, but thanks to this forum I am glad I did not waste any money on fancy torches.

I don't know if you bought one already but I snagged one from my local Sears and it works great! It's rather large but on the lower settings the flame is perfect, relatively cheap at $30 too

How much fun is it trying to learn how to get the best out of the lotus. If it was electric I'd have been annoyed. It's real strength is getting a full on hit is easy the flavoursome stuff takes a bit. But it's just such a joy working it out.

It's a bit like a manual gearbox vs an automatic.

The honest lighter is now in a working mood bless it

Very true - I keep loving my Lotus more and more. It hasn't been that hard for me to get flavor hits.
Absolutely agree , the Lotus is a manual, and that's the best part.

Just got my new Ascent back, and I gotta tell you, the feeling is 'meh'. Sure, I can dial in my Ascent and get many draws of pure flavor (more flavor than I've been able to achieve with the Lotus). Although, that much flavor is almost too much, especially after a week with my Lotus, the Ascent is just too slow, and takes MUCH longer to pack (glass flowers). Halfway considering selling my Ascent and buying spare parts for my Lotus

I copy/pasted the large yellow font letters from the Lotusglass.com site; just passing it along as an informational aide to my fellow FC members. I have no relation to the Lotus Glass company other than being a very satisfied customer. Next time I'll be sure to include quotation marks to preclude ambiguity. ;)

Uh oh... I gotta make some moves asap.
Honest just gave out. All the sudden, it is at about 1/3 the power and the flame is all stubby and fat... FUCK!

...edit. Here comes the Plenty
