Funny you mention that. I have done that a couple times with the Lotus. Only when vaked, but I have actually hit the bowl once, and lit the lighter but stopped before hitting the bowl a couple times at least before replacing the cap. I laugh at myself every time...

new pic of micro piece + lotus with quarter for scale. i am really liking this setup a lot, using it for travel right now. its also cool as the 14f/14f adapter provides a window for the vapor rushing down. it is helping my technique seeing just how much vapor is produced and when.

hm, i dont believe it does at all. it doesnt recycle that well either, it does if you put a lot of water in it, but then the pull gets harder. i do like the way it feels in my hand though, and it is nice and stable, i think its my only piece that actually sits flat with no wobble.

So....since mentioning my accidental Lotus combustion a few days ago, I've been combusting at least once per session!
I have no clue why, and wondering if maybe my plate is starting to crack? I'm using the old style plate, purchased back around January, and there is no obvious visible damage. Could it be that tiny cracks are forming and I just can't see them?
Those of you who have had cracked plates, did you notice you were combusting more often before noticing the crack?

I actually have a new plate (the more plain looking new version without the extra grooves), that I bought as a backup, perhaps I should give it a try?

You may have damaged it internally if you used too much heat. One thing i did not realize for a long times is that I tended to hold the torch at an angle. I was not aware i was basically just heating up one spot of the cap. Now i hold my flame vertically down and have no issues.

It may be a crack in your plate, I started to hear a "clicking" sound when I started to heat my plate from cold-start. It was very hard to see the crack, it formed actually on the side of one of the notches and blended with the shadows.

I was only able to see the size of the crack after removing the plate and holding it up to a bright light. If you have a spare plate, why not carefully replace it? This would be a great opportunity to open your cap and inspect the inside. If the inner metal plate or locking ring are loose, your cap is toast.

I've got to give credit to @Max Jitter and crew, I sent an email Friday evening about my cracked plate and finally having to switch it out for my original style spare. They responded Saturday saying it was covered and to send my shipping info. Came home today to a new style plate waiting in the mail.

Now I just have to wait on my new glass bubbler from iOffer, broke my daily use bubbler on the granite counter. I have a love/hate relationship with my granite countertops. I love it's look and feel, but have broke so much glass sitting at my favorite spot at the bar.
This one actually hurt, it was just a 10" stemline perc bubbler but I used it EVERYDAY for a couple years. I was a bit attached to it.

How difficult is the process of replacing the plate? Can anyone chime in?

Simple, remove 3 screws and swap plates then reinstall. The hardest part is lining up the outer trim plate and the inner plate with the proper screw holes. I've done it a handful of times.

Just be careful with those tiny stainless steel screws. They strip very easily. I've only lost 1 so far, but you need to make sure the Allen wrench is properly seated before you start.

This is happening to me, too. I thought that I was just getting lazy with technique, but now I'm not so sure.
Right out of the box, there's always been a clicking sound from my Lotus when heating it up from cold. I assumed it is/was just plates expanding from the heat... I might just have to take this gem apart and investigate.

So I got my replacement parts for my lotus. I am sooooo glad to have this bad boy back in commission. It's funny because I got this as a camping, power outage, zombie apocalypse vape fully expecting it to sit on the shelf. That it would be rarely used and more of a novelty vape. Man I was so wrong this thing has quickly taken a solid place in my rotation and is probably my most used vape while at home right now.

Replacing the bowl.... So the bowl I got didn't quite fit like my original. It was just the teeny tiniest bit bigger and for a minute there I thought I was going to have to send it to Max or buy a new dry stem. I finally decided after carefully trying to put it in for over 30 mins using a variety of techniques and failing. That I had nothing to lose at this point. I put a bit of bees wax on the bowl and dry stem lined it up as best as I could. Then proceeded to use a C-clamp to press the bowl section into the dry stem... .

After I get the bowl partially inserted and I am at the point of no return I realize it is slightly crooked and isn't going in properly aligned (insert scary music here). I did what any lotus owner would do and tried to keep from flipping the out. The next 10 minutes I felt like a tight rope walker over a lion pit. It was nerve wracking, scary and butt clenching all at the same time. Finally after repeatedly switching pressure points with the clamp to slowly force the bowl back into proper alignment. All the while hearing these horrifying crunches and clicks that sounded a million times louder to me then they probably were with my precious lotus stem in a vise. I was finally triumphant!! ! My dry stem is still airtight and the lotus cap sits flush with the stem and is back to producing huge flavorful clouds again.

All in all it was a terrifying experience that I wouldn't wish on any lotus owner to endure, but I am VERY appreciative of @Max Jitter for getting me squared away so quickly.

Well, today marks the one-week anniversary of adding the Lotus to my roster, and let me tell you: this thing is super awesome! This whole week has been like a vaporizer honeymoon, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. I love how quick setup is, especially compared to my MFLB. Just grab a torch and a scoop of herb and you're ready to go! The vapor is super tasty, and I haven't had any moments of combustion, only slight charring when I get a little overzealous with the heat, which I've already learned to deal with thanks to my MFLB experience. While there is a bit of a learning curve, having a j-hook available right off the bat was really helpful in gauging vapor production and I have a pretty decent handle on it now.

I bought a kit with the aluminum stem and WPA, so it's no problem switching between the stem, my j-hook, and my Orbiter. All methods are equally enjoyable and I find myself rotating through my options regularly and coming out satisfied every time. The aluminum stem is beautifully machined, and I catch myself examining it and turning it around in my hands during a sesh. The j-hook is really fun to milk up and the Orbiter is a perfect companion for when I want huge, lung-busting hits.

Everything about this vape is superb and it's well, well worth the money. I see it being a daily driver for a long time to come!

Took the lotus up to the mountains this weekend. It was a little bit of a problem. The torch would not stay lit for extended periods. After we got the hang of it, it worked fine but it was frustrating at times.

The torch worked fine tonight back near sea level so I think it was the altitude. We weren't that high - probably 5k feet maybe. Possibly less. Anyway it's still great but next trip up to the mountains means a new torch.

You may want to get a torch that uses a flint as the ignition instead of piezo electric. I've seen lots of people recommending mini-Bics for high altitude camping.

I've also read a review of the Hammer vape (piezo) that said it worked fine at 10k feet. Maybe the amount of butane is the difference, so perhaps a 2 flame lighter might work. I also think the dual flame would work well for windy conditions.

Well I received my Lotus 2 weeks ago, and it didn't take long for me to fall in love with it. But last Sunday disaster struck, after noticing a small dent in my plate, I applied to much pressure to the plate and cracked it. So it was back to the Solo till I could get a hold of a replacement plate. Then, on the same day mind you, I broke my last remaining solo stem. So, I hopped in the car and picked up a Solo Gong from my LHS. After two more days I chipped the new Gong, So I had to unpack the Volcano, which is fool-proof but far to unwieldy. What a shitty week. Right now I am using the Solo with a half broken Gong, and its just not hitting that spot. The Volcano just isn't efficient for one, and the Solo doesn't hit hard enough for me anymore. My new hotplate, and a backup will be here tomorrow. Hopefully assembly is idiot proof. I'm sitting here salivating thinking of using the Lotus again, and re-reading the thread to sate my appetite.

OK so I was wrong about the vortexing, it does when filled up with enough water. I have it filled very full, to about 1/2-2/3cm from the loopy joint. I tried pulling from it without the lotus setup on it and it didn't feel great, however after putting the adapter and lotus on top, the pull is nice and steady. It is harder to start than before when I had the water just above the perc holes. With a lot of water the hits feel smoother as I'm hypothesizing the second chamber is providing filtration as well. Am planning on posting up a water test, hopefully soon but need to clean the rig (also been using it for dabs).
