The Lotus Vaporizer

Dabs are vapor too!
So....I was about to pull the plug on a Vapor Genie because I need a flame based vaporizer for hurricane season. A good friend here told me I should consider the Lotus. Please remember I have lost the use of my left thumb and cannot grip anything. I'm having a lot of trouble doing things, dropping things, etc. I am a little concerned because the top stays on with a magnet, and "comes off easily." I will be holding this vaporizer in the palm of my left hand (can't grip anything). Do you think this would be a problem? Any discount codes I might have missed?

Thanks guys. :)
I'd like to add some extra info (my opinion only of course). My first tip would be - don't try the Al stem as your first experience with the Lotus. Glass makes seeing your vapor possible, and this is key to adjusting the heat with your flame proximity.

I find the unrestricted pull on a dry Lotus is a bit too dry for me - I recommend water path. With that said there's tons of bubblers that will work, but either put the flame too close to one's face when heating, or make it hard to see the where the flame hits the plate (this is important when learning). I found a J hook and ash catcher combo is ideal, gets the flame away from one's face, and allows a perfect view of the plate and the vapor forming in the bubbler.

Don't know if you want to stay away from glass because of grip issues - but as others mentioned, the bubbler can sit on a table - doesn't need to be held while in use.

It's good the cap comes off easily - to carb your hit, but you never know if the cap will lift off, or lift the WTA with it. That little handle they make for the WTA seems ideal - wish I had gotten one.

As far as discounts - ezvapes.com has 15% off with code PORT15, and you get free, priority mail shipping from the east coast. I was happy with their service/speed.

I don't know if this is something new with the new flat design of the vapor cap or if it is normal; my vapor cap gets hot to the point that it become difficult to even hold it for the few seconds required to stir a bowl.
This makes the vape difficult to use in groups larger than 3. Also I have been having trouble getting my oil vaping right in this, in my friends solo it is such thick vapor from a small cotton ball, but the same cotton ball with the same amount in the lotus is gone in two or three wispy hits. Chasing oil hits has led to me combusting cotton twice.

I'm thinking you'll you'll like the lotus.

Scoop a bowl (it doesn't need to be precise) in to the WPA, use your good hand (right hand) to apply the heat source. You're in like Flynn...it really is that simple. I don't have the magnetized WPA, but no matter, simply lift the cap and carb that shit right into my pulmonary system....it's all good.

I'm wondering if you think it's necessary to purchase the j-hook for this, or whether one can get the hang of the lotus with the WPA and some random glass water piece (I know mine is not the ideal set-up that you recommended), as opposed to with the j-hook as the stem. I ask because I definitely want the WPA for home use, and the aluminum stem as a travel option, and am just trying to keep the cost down. It wouldn't be terrible to have to purchase the j-hook in addition, but I'd like to avoid it if possible. Wondering what people think about this and whether it'd be somewhat harder because of the visible vapor being more diffuse. I have yet to use a flame-based vaporizer and I plan to make the lotus my next vape purchase. Thanks!

No, they should all be the same, I think Max said he needed to update the picture for one of them. The GRAV j-hook has a white label on the front of the female joint says GRAV - you can see part of the white logo on the J-hook with the turquoise cap. - That's the one that comes with every kit from Mendo - I think one of the pictures is an older j-hook style.

Oh maan, that's a bummer!
I guess I like the older j hook style apparently. I hope I can find one like it. I didn't see any on their site but maybe if I contact them and request one?

Thanks for everyone's comments in settling the matter straight, really helpful as always

At first I actually found it harder to use with the WPA through a bubbler and far easier using the AL stem.
I used the temp/heat of vapor feedback into my mouth, through the stem, to learn the technique (not visibility of vapor).

Now you'd probably be able to do this just as well with a J hook dry, and you'd get the visible vapor to help too.
But for me, until I had flame technique down, I had a harder time through water regardless of vapor visibility and 100% used the AL stem to learn the secrets of the Lotus :brow:

That makes total sense to me, given that I have already found that I need to figure out a vape and then figure out how to work it through water. I guess using the j-hook dry would be ideal for this because it adds the visibility, but I am leaning toward just getting the aluminum stem and then I have the option of getting a j-hook if I find that I need the extra help of visible vapor.

Lots of good advice.

FWIW~ I also recommend a table top bubbler. It would essentially eliminate any limitations you might have with gripping.

Going scientific bubs, and having a visible vapor path, will provide excellent feedback to guide your technique- I think most would agree it is very helpful.

@cat~ jump on in:) I'd recommend the jhook if discretion is not an issue; otherwise the aluminum stem imo is ideal. Go ahead and get the WPA- it is AWESOME and opens the world up to limitless glass and GAS.

Thanks -- I am trying to avoid GAS because I am already deep into VAS issues at the moment (though I am going to get the WPA in any event).

Sounds like a plan.

Dunno about anyone else but I got the long AL stem and am pleased I did. I think I would have found the shorter one a little too close to my face (although it's only 1 inch shorter).

It works really well to cool the vapor. Much better than I was expecting.

@Vicki I can hold the long stem easily and securely using three fingers and no thumb. Index and ring finger below with the stem resting on the back of those fingers, and the middle finger in top of the stem holding it in place.

I just don't think I can use a vaporizer that requires 2 hands/thumbs right now. I tried holding things between my index and middle finger and it was very awkward, and I dropped the item half the time. :(

With your situation, IMO you should stick to your guns and go with a single-hand piece/table piece.

The lotus, with its hot-as-fuck hot plate, should not be in any situation where it can fall in your lap.

Oh wow, yeah! I can actually visualize that happening. :(

Right. Someone also recommended using the lock on feature of a torch and transferring it to her left hand lit, and I can't imagine a worse idea. If it DID get dropped it would most certainly start a fire with the flame locked on unless you were standing and on non flammable material (not one's normal vaping circumstance). These torches are VERY hot.
Like @FlyingLow suggested I think a table piece makes the most sense, wet or dry. After you are comfortable with it you can make your own judgements as to what your dexterity allows, but start with a table piece.

Also, for those who may be unaware, EZVapes.com has an FC 16% discount FC16. I like that they give us a break...

Yeah, but I might be fooling myself about being conservative and not buying the j-hook unless I find that I need it -- it's probably more likely that I'll just cave and get the dual stem kit. I have kind of a weakness for accessories, it's part of the form that my VAS is taking. Though the j-hook is only $1 less when purchased with this kit, as opposed to on it's own -- kinda wish there was a little more savings with the kits but oh well. Thanks all for the advisement about this. I guess I will see how it goes with figuring out the lotus in a few weeks.

So there's a "V3" Lotus now? I missed the announcement. Is the only difference the heat plate material? If so, I assume I can just buy a replacement heat plate kit for the new plate to upgrade my V2 to V3?

Actually V.3 originally came with the previous plate design. The new plate came out after V.3 was in the hands of many, but plates were starting to show cracks. I think V.3 also included the introduction of a larger bowl and a magnet was added to the WPA.

Vicky we need it easy. If the LOTUS is too hard for you just use the SOLO.
I use a LOTUS when I feel like a joint.
Before I only could use it with one torch lighter I had. Now I can use all of them. However some water pipes, bubblers, ash collectors are harder than others. I have one I use for the LOTUS ones for the NANO and ones for the SOLO. My BENDER is only for me. It's wasteful however taste amazing.

Last night when I woke up a 1:00AM with a bad case of insomnia the LOTUS knocked me out.

I use the thing a lot.
I hated it at first.
It took me a few months to understand it.
For others it like plug in play.
If I did not have ataxia I would have made it work first try.

I don't know your exact situation however the SOLO is the easiest to use.

The LOTUS is the closest to smoking a joint in a healthier way in my unqualified option.

I'll go take a photo of the little dabber I use with the LOTUS lately.

Do whatever gives you comfort!

I love my Solo and use it everyday, but it requires electricity. I was looking for something that required no electricity to use it. Just in case a hurricane rolls through, we lose electricity, and I can't charge my Solo. And, I must be able to use it one handed because I will be like this for the foreseeable future. I have been investigating all options, and all vaporizers that fit those requirements. Right now, I have an Iolite on the way. :)

I've tried both the iolite and the Lotus side by side. I can tell you that every time the Lotus wins - for taste and vapor production. But given your situation, the iolite is probably easier to use.

I still hope you will consider the Lotus in the future, but indeed using the Lotus with one-hand may require a bit more effort. Hell, maybe in a year you decide you want an upgrade from the iolite - maybe at that time you'll give the Lotus a whirl - I mean really, for $99 you can buy the WPA kit. At that price it's worth buying to try once, and giving to a less fortunate friend if you don't like it!

Good luck with your iolite!

(@ataxian - I have that exact same silver/chrome Zico angled torch pictured in the post above to the left of the recycler - zico T-38 - it's my current favorite torch for the Lotus)
