To clarify a little, FC is full of like-minded people discussion our common interest. We do, however try to keep direct comparisons to a minimum, especially when both manufacturers are FC members. There are several reasons for that that I won't get into, but just know that that is our policy and we ask that you adhere to it. (That's a lot of thats!)

Thank you for understanding.

:peace:

Thank you @Stu. I appreciate the clarification. Seems like my post caused some issues with some members. I apologize for that. I will adhere to your guidelines. The other threads I have been on are great also, but it seems that they are more liberal in keeping the guidelines imo. That's cool. I like the fact that different threads have different "personalities". I really enjoy this site, and the opinions that all the other members have. There is a lot to learn here, thanks again.

I believe this relatively new poster is still mistaken in his perception that some threads are more liberal than others on this particular policy, only because he is unaware of the fact that the mods simply cannot monitor every post in every FC forum thread at all times. FC forum policies apply to all threads equally. As an assist, posters are free to help out by bringing policy issues to the attention of the mods that would have otherwise been left unaddressed and allowed to continue unabated. I wish that someone would explain to this poster that I am not a thread nazi, only trying to be helpful to my fellow vendors and informative to my fellow posters, veteran and new. As they say in Tinseltown: "No well-intentioned good deed goes unpunished".
Now... enough guilty thread derailment from me... back on topic - BEHOLD - THE HI!!!

Snappo is correct that we can't read every post. Our staff is small and if we had enough mods to read everything there would still be major issues since there are so many gray areas. Moderation would be uneven to the point where we'd have to moderate the moderators.

It's never a good idea for any member to address any other member's posts when it comes to the rules of the forum. You either report issues with the button available on every post, or simply ignore the post. As far as staff is concerned it's strictly an either/or proposition. DarkSm0ke has apologized so in the future please use the either/or option regarding his posts.

Purchased my first HI from a user here on FC

After years of forum lurking I have joined. Can't wait to try out my first log vape.

A more technical question, would I be able to use my HI outdoors if I already have a battery with DC out? (outputting at 12v of course)

Also, nice to meet everyone :)

You picked up a beauty! Hope you enjoy it, I know we have all been enjoying ours!

As long as it's consistent 12v and can output more than 1 amp you should be good to go with your battery.

I took your advice and emailed Alan and got on the list! He wrote me a very detailed and informative email back. I am really psyched, even though there is a wait, but some things are really worth the wait!

Thanks again for everyone that has helped me make the decision to take the HI plunge! I am sure it is going to be a great addition in time to my vape family.

If that's the case, I'm in business! not... business business... this is Alan's house after all ;P

They all really are, I'm glad I found this specific one though. I have a feeling I'll be on that list sooner than later & hitting up @Snappo as well.

@Orestes - Thanks for posting the GIF. Looking good.

@Andreaerdna - Glad you are enjoying your bamboo HI. Will see if I can make some bamboo tubes with stainless steel tips. Need to find the right size bamboo.

@Shit Snacks - Glad to hear you are enjoying your HI and voltage controller. Curious if that 18mm cork sleeve worked for the GH. Any more chance to play with the Milaana tube w/ stacked 10mm screens? We have started making 12mm basket screens that work really well in the stock Milaana stems. My preference is to sandwich the material between two basket screens.

@NickDlow - Thanks for posting the photos. They look even better when you hold them.

@btka - Thanks for posting the photos. Will get your HI to you soon.

@RUDE BOY - I don't recommend leaving the aromatherapy cup on your HI with hot wax in it. An accidental spill will leave hot wax in unwanted locations. I prefer to use hemp fiber in the cup to soak up the essential oils so that it won't spill if tipped over. The aroma can get quite strong which limits the time the aromatherapy cup is on the HI. It is best not to leave the aromatherapy cup on for too long.

@DrNick420 - I also like the hexagon look of the GTV. It seems to work out better making them square in shape though. I like your analogy about the differences between the glass and stainless steel heater cover. The air flow through the stainless steel heater cover is much better than in the glass heater cover.
There is no list to purchase an LSV mod kit. It adds a stainless steel heater cover to the LSV so that it can be used at lower power levels using log vaporizer style roasting tubes that connect to a stainless steel heater cover. I have since discovered that my roasting tubes can be used with the LSV without the need to install the stainless steel heater cover. Here is a link to some of them. Roasting Tubes
The use of two screens to sandwich the material is the best way I have found to roast with them. I have also had really good luck using two 12mm basket screens in a Milaana / 18mm US tube with the LSV. No need to stir and no worry about spilling any material when the tube is upside down. Our screens are $0.50 each, so you can get a few without spending a lot.
I also make LSV stands if you want to send me an email.

@DarkSm0ke - I refer to the stems as roasting tubes since that is what happens to the herbal material placed in them. The roasting tubes are just as important as the hot air producing part of the system. That is why I make so many different types/styles. Everyone has a different preference.

@Alan

a thoughtful and thorough reply so thank you very much.

May i ask though. Is there any benefit to adding that tube to the LSV? I am just having a hard time picturing how a roasting tube will work with it because I thought LSV was only accepting 18mm male joints.

Please tell me if this is off topic and i'll bring it off topic. Thanks Alan

Yes thanks again Alan! I love it all

I did try the cork sleeve when I first got my GH (there is a photo burried somewhere in that thread) but it seemed to slide too much and end up covering the air intake holes of the hopper. If held in place it works well but it is not ideal so I haven't gotten to test it again (not using water much these days either), if there is a way to prevent the sliding it would be fantastic but I'm not sure if that is really possible with the slick GH body and this wider ID cork sleeve...

Regarding the Milaana stem, I have not tried it again but I should since I have a tuned up one. The issue is though I think the cork sleeve there should be the same as the Milaana stem, so it can insert fully into the bowl with the glass stem tip flush with the edge so that there is no risk of poking the Mi better screen below (as is it is tricky to get the length right), though it doesn't seem to work but only for low temp (again it may be better with the production tuned heater).

Also while I really like the two screen system for use with the HIbrid, it can be a bit more tedious to set up, loading/unloading, the occasional stirring, and for Milaana so far not sure it's offering much benefit honestly, since I can use the stock single screen more simple and even avoid stirring if I so desire... I'll let you know more though when I test it again. I actually really want you to get a Milaana so you can perfect stems for it yourself (plus to get your input on the tech and performance ofcourse;)) I think there is a lot you could do with it...

So I been using my Hi now since Thursday , I don't think it is the vape for me. Craftsmanship is amazing I am not knocking the product but personally I am more of a session vape type of guy... I have no vvps and I was only able to achieve 4-8 hit's from a packing. Grind med-fine , loose pack , slightly tamped , hold to mouth like a cigar and move stem around until I feel the vapor flowing and back off. I get nice rips but not many. I normally pack my other vapes and get 15-25 hits. Is this normal ? Is this vape more of a small session vape , take a few hits and re pack ?

vaping with logs require small loads, I normally use 0.02 to 0.05g in my nano (HIs are on the way) the advantage of this is I get 1 to 2 clouds with superb flavor and 1 to 2 hits with clouds but not as good flavor as the first two ... using with bubbler strictly.. but if I remember correctly with the tube /stem I got up to 8 clouds... logs are also very effective regarding your used amount of herb... I would suggest packing less herb...

Agreed, for me too it works better as a hitter rather thas a sipper (this is where SS stem works the best IMO) micro load rapidly extracted with big flavourfull cloud-s
Even if the hybrid core with glass stem seems to give me more a session oriented experience (always the half max of a solo bowl).

I don't know about all this -- totally behind in my reading and late to this convo, but I find my His (and UD, so perhaps logs), to be nothing if not session vapes / sippers. I'd say I get 25 hits off of one pack of say, two pinches. Besides the logs, I only have portables, and if I'm vaping before trying to get out of the house, I often favor something like the Lotus because if I use my HI, I'll lose time sitting with a log and a stem. And often I am like "omg it's still going!" Anyone?

try your log with a bubbler... I prefer mine without water... you should be able to finish a bowl in 2 to 4 hits and big clouds as well... maybe your temp. is also too low?
and please tell me how this worked out for you...
by the way I am using a coarse grinde

yes yes, i know how to achieve this, just saying it can be good for a session, if one so desires. i am inclined toward sipping / nursing things, and, admittedly, my lung capacity has never been amazing which could be part of why a stem can last so long.

Here is how the LSV looks with just the stainless steel heater cover installed. The glass heater cover can also be installed with the stainless steel heater cover in place so both types of tubes can be used.

It becomes a 110v Heat Island with dimmer switch heat control. The unit does not get as hot to hold because you don't have to turn the dimmer up as far as with the glass heater cover alone. It allows you to more efficiently roast small amounts of material using the smaller diameter tubes.

@Shit Snacks - Thanks for the feedback. I have had a chance to try the Milaana and am impressed with the availability of heat. Using two 12mm screens in a stock stem prevents any material from falling onto the heater screen. It also allows the use of concentrates sandwiched between flower with no stirring required. I would be happy to chat with RBT about some ideas.

@catbird - The number of hits per stem does have many variables. It will vary from person to person and depend upon the situation. If I want some fast medication, I use the stainless steel heater cover. The glass heater cover is for times when I want to enjoy the flavor and take my time.

thank you!

it is figured walnut...
and the bottom cap is cocobolo...

@btka both of those wood species are great. It would be hard to pick which one I liked best. I saw some blocks of cocobolo on line that looked fantastic. Was going to pull the trigger but there is an exotic wood dealer about 10 minutes from my home. He was out of town on business last week but I plan on checking out his stock in the very near future. Alan is an amazing artist. Every HI I have seen here is different and very beautiful. Real conversation starter, and that is not even considering that it is a working piece of art.

I took my bamboo HI to a friend's house with my cousin and we hit it. The general consensus was that it was a good vape and it hits like a train. They don't really have experience with vaping.

I'm trying to convince my cousin that he should vaporize. He rolls up blunts and joints mainly, or combusts in a bong. At the very least ditch the tobacco I tell him. I've been a nag, I guess with my other vape. But in this case he actually liked the punch the HI packs. And since I've had it he's wanted to use it more than combust when he visits. I think it's a winner.

So medicated right now on some Cannalope off the HI. It really does smell like Cantaloupe.

@thisperson I am trying to get my sister off combustion too! Even though she likes to vape when she comes over, I think she might be too lazy to change or thinks that vaping is a hassle. I think it is just different, but the overall experience is way better and less invasive to others in your household compared to combustion imo. If I vape at a low temperature, what I breathe out doesn't even smell like weed with some strains. Some people just think it is just some incense.

On another note, could you post a photo of your bamboo HI? Alan mentioned to me that it would be a shorter lead time if I ordered a bamboo HI versus an exotic wood variety. I am curious to see what the bamboo HI looks like!
