The HI

Here are a couple of HIsabers that went out today. It was kind of funny at the post office. The lady asked me what I was sending (none of her business) and I told her with a straight face they are hand warmers for heated massage. She was very interested and asked if I might bring one in sometime. She said she knew a lot of old people who might like them. I love that it has legitimate legal uses too.
The Dark Walnut unit is Cluffy's and is a recycle from a broken chair leg.

What can I say bOObs. Life is short. Enjoy that shit. Too funny.

Thanks vorrange, PanicFreak, Gonzo, Vapinghole and u bwade wunner. I like the small size of the white oak unit.

Need to get my FF cleaned up and then I will get a photo with a new 2-piece glass turbo tube Zangano Cruel.

Those Vinyl caps look like they should work u bwade wunner. May have to order some and see how they work. Thanks for continuing to think of new ways for using the HI and roasting tubes. It will be a benefit to future JedHI's.

Should be singing the HI song soon Cluffy. Enjoy your new HI.

Saw your video using my glass roasting tube with the UD and Zapbubbler Gonzo. It looks like your placed the herb on the back side of the screen. Did you place another screen on top of the herb to keep it in place? Very interesting use of my tube. I love how inventive everyone is with my tubes.

Thanks everyone. It is always tough to let them go. Like I'm giving one of my own HI's away. The dark walnut will have a much better life. It was only good for holding people up before. Now it will lift them up and carry them away. Always fun to find faces in the wood too. The burl wood is maple.

You can get a hold of me vorrange and talk about what tubes will best suit your needs. alan@toasty-top.com

That's what I'm worried about when my time comes to order. Yo b00bs, if I could only afford two tubes when my time comes which ones would you recommend at first? I definitely want the all-glass tube to put in my SG and then one for direct draw, is the SS tip or turbo tube better for that?

Thanks for noticing Alan :D I am mailing my Hi to you on Monday to get the Updated heater core like we talked about. The Zapubler works great with the HI too but I want to shoot a video once it has the updated core :D

I basically used your center tube to allow the log vapes to function in the way that the Cloud does :D all glass airpath with water filtration :ko:. It is one of your all glass 14 mm gong stems with the bug sandwiched in between the two screens. I am using the screen that Dave supplies with his 3/8 stem ( Not sure what size). This creates a very even airflow and means no stirring. I just have to give the glass a little shake or a couple taps and it's stirs itself :D

This Zapubler has completely changed my entire routine for log vapes. I plan to shoot a nice video with my HI once it gets back from the updrade. Can't wait!

That is really awesome Gonzo. I just tried one of my 3/8" screens that I use to hammer out to 10mm and they fit perfectly into the gong end of the all glass tube. It slides right down to material and stops. A paperclip with a bend at the tip to remove the screen and a puff of air to remove the abv. It should work for a regular water tool 14mm gong too. Guess I will have to start including 3/8" screens with tube orders.

I received sessnet's HI in the mail today. The core change out was literally a 5 minute job. Unscrewed the heating element. Pushed the core out. Pushed the new core in. Replaced the heating element. Done. I just love this design for maintenance and repairs. Now I get to use his HI for the rest of the weekend.

nugghuffer - You should have some time to compare the different tubes I make and see some new reviews. I may even have something else new by then.

Yeah Alan, it works great with all my 14mm water tools. Completely eliminates the need for the tubing as you can just push the 3/8 screen to the distance you need(Or just turn the temp down a little).

I will definitely get the piece mailed out to you on Monday for the swap.

When a HI is heated for the first time, it drives off any remaining moisture. The moisture in the wood below the core exits out the bottom since it must travel through the grain tubes. It will leave a little "C" shaped condensation ring on the surface on which it is setting. I usually leave them on a plastic surface so the moisture is very apparent. After replacing sessnet's core and heating it, I noticed the same "C" shaped ring of moisture. Any time the wood is not heated, it will try to come to equilibrium with the surrounding humidity level. Care should be taken to not set a HI that has just been setting cold for a while onto furniture with a finish susceptible to moisture damage. Don't want any HI "C" rings on your fine furniture.
The wood gets larger in diameter when it contains moisture. It is like having a larger bundle of straws. Since all of the straws are getting bigger, the hole in the middle also opens up. There is no where else for the straws to go but outward away from the center of the wood.
If enough moisture gets in the wood, it can loosen the grip on the core. This is not an issue with the new core as it will move as one unit. The heating element is independent from the core. Slide the core back into place and the wood will become tight again once the unit is energized and the moisture driven off.
The smaller the diameter of the hole, the less it will change. Another reason for the HI to be so small.

And because the HI is small, it fits perfectly with my minimalist tendencies and need for stealth.

On my way home and jammed to BOC's "I'm burning' for you." I thought of Alan at his lathe singing that to me but instead he's singing, "I'm turnin', I'm turnin', I'm turnin' for you."

Sorry - my HIDS is acting up. Need to vape.

Sorry in advance Vapinghole. This will not be good for your HIDS.

I have had a piece of lilac wood since I first started making HI's that was too small for anything plus some nasty cracks. It worked pretty well for a HI Top. The shape is not Eggxactly what I was looking for, so I will have to try again sometime when I get more HI's done. The size is just about right. The extra wood around the center allows you to hold it comfortably. It is 2" in diameter and 2.75" tall. The other side has a larger crack and there is part of a worm burrow. Very unique. My room has a nice lilac flower smell to it from the heated wood. Works just like a HI.
