Yes I did some drop testing... and man was it hard to do... I like to baby electronics. Anyway I roughed it up quite a bit. I picked it up by the lid, swung it around, and slammed the lid closed. I would pick it up and put it back down hard on the table surface as well. A couple times I let it fall from my table to the floor. It stood up quite well. If it fell from a high enough surface. I think the lid could break off if it landed at just the right angle. It is pretty darn tough.

Although I didn't try dropping any, I did get to take a look at about 10 units in various stages of disassembly. It is very well put together, and I don't see an area of concern, but I can ask specificially about drop tests.

But this thing should be really stable on the nightstand/coffeetable/whatever. I don't think the cat has enough mew to overcome the μ.

Edited to add: I thought for sure the case survivors would have at least been forwarded on and lessened any thoughts of delay.

I don't think I've 'EVER' held onto funds this long in my life while at the same time stifling my shopaholic self to this extent, all for the sake of want & need for this next step in a precise vaporizing device.

Well, they said the train wreck pushed things back about three weeks, and that was two weeks ago, so maybe we'll get an e-mail to finalize orders in a week or so.

Update from the man himself:

I am guardedly optimistic that everyone who pre-ordered will be rewarded the first week of December. I don't want to promise because clearly the universe has the final say, yet everything on this end is a go.

The big news is that we appear to have the last few pieces of plastic being delivered next week. And then immediately we will build the first lot of 250. We have significantly more than 250 orders including our wholesale partners, yet we are committed to fulfilling the FC Reservists first. Its balls to the walls with last minute details until those customers are smiling.

A question regarding the accelerometer for anyone who may know: Will it allow the Herbalizer to remain on if, say, the vape is mounted flat against a wall? Or will it recognize that as being tilted and shut off? With the magnetic bowl it seems like mounting could be a cool, unique possibility.

Hahahaha! This has been mentioned before (I presume it wasn't you ). I don't think the Herbalizer guys anticipated this desire... until FC people brought it up.

IIRC, I don't think do. Also, I think the first thing that would happen when you open it is that the whip would fall out (if you could close it properly in the first place).

I thought it may have been mentioned but I couldn't find anything in the search. IIRC, the lid can be removed, so the whip/bag could just be left attached and ready. I don't really have the table space to leave a desktop unit sitting out (aside from something like the VXC which only takes up a few square inches) so the idea of mounting it sounded promising. It'd be best if the shutoff kicked in when either side of the Herbalizer is no longer resting on a surface, rather than kicking in when the Herbalizer just isn't parallel to the ground.

From a business standpoint they should maybe consider making the accelerometer function that way (if it doesn't already) to allow mounting because think about it: if you mount an Herbalizer in one room in your house, then what happens when you need to use an Herbalizer in a different room? You buy a second Herbalizer

Reminds of of the old B&O CD players that wall mounted. Doors opened when one waved their hand in front o them. Don't recall if they ever made a turntable like that,but probably not as one would have to have linear tracking like the PoS Techniques junk.


Also, one thing to consider: If this is to share, coffee tables tend to, more often than not, be in the middle of a room. Walls, on the other hand, tend to be on the edges of rooms. Harder to gather 'round a wall.

Mounting it is not optimal for other reasons.
The basket does not get filled to the brim, which means the load is reliant upon laying flat in that chamber for complete vaporization.
It would be similar to laying a Volcano on its side to use it.
The meds would fall to one side of the chamber as hot air passed over the settled meds.

I think a magnetic elbow adapter could solve that problem. The bowl temp might be slightly lower than the set temp due to a bit more distance from the element, but the load would be flat and allow complete vaporization.

but I do think the unit may have a sensor that shuts it down if it is not level.
In any event... While very inventive, if your ideas for brackets, wall mounts, screen snuggers, lid tension hinges, and 'safety feature bypasses' do not pan out, one could always use the Herbalizer flat on a surface as the engineers and designers planned it.

Maybe in revision 2? Adding another switch to the mobo and cutting the space for it on the case, sourcing and QC'ing everything, reprogramming, etc. They talked about a few last-minute changes that they wanted to hammer out before launch, and that was back a few months ago when we were at the test drive.

Or even better, a shelf! Or even just a couple of those L-shaped metal hook things and a piece of wood to create a shelf would work. Sure, it would stick out some of the wall, but it'll stay on the wall

I'm not sure this is the best place, or perhaps even industry, to find a high percentage of compliant consumers who only use a product as they were told to. I suspect our brains have far too much plasticity for that!
