Man Im not getting anything close to those copious clouds sticks got. Well I didnt even get to try the technique. In a few posts back I mentioned a plastic smell giving off during the conditioning phase that herbalizer recommended to run it at 350 fan on for 10 cycles. The plastic smell did dissipate though it did make me a bit dizzy (without product in it).
Well I finally had a chance to run it with blue dream this past saturday and it really didnt perform. Im wondering if this sounds normally to any of our experienced Herbializers here.
I first tried the bag, to give you a visual I could still read the words on the news ticker at the bottom of my screen on my laptop through the bag. The first run was at 375 the next same bowl was at 445 with a minute more amount of vapor if at all. Then I used the steam roller and barely any vapor again at 380. I can see some whispy vapor coming out of the steam roller, though you really can’t see any filling up in the tube like is visible in videos on youtube. During exhalation there is only a tiny amount of visible vapor at a certain point of exhalation. I am also unsure even if Im getting any flavor at all. Again vastly different from youtube videos.
In comparison I am getting more copuis amount of vapor and flavor with my crafty portable vaporizer from store & bickel at lower temps ranging from 368, 372, and 375 from the same bowl after using the Herbalizer. Also I did get a very bad headache as well after using the unit the two times I tried it.
Obviously Im not an engineer though I wonder if the plastic smell I originally reported to you was some sort of a short circuit and the machine isn’t able to reach the proper temperature now hence the lack of vapor at multiple temperatures. Any way Im very sadly upset because Ive been waiting and following this vaporizer since 2014 to buy this product. AHHH Herbie needs to be returned.
Thanks gang for your imput!
Can you try a couple things and answer a few questions for me?
Turn on your Herbie without the bowl on the unit, look through the mesh and select "vapour therapy". You should see the halogen bulb begin to glow and flicker as it heats up. After it's warmed up, it should stop heating and pulse the fan only occasionally to sample the air temperature. Blowing on the mesh gently should cause the herbie to do a tiny heating cycle confirming that it's holding temperature properly.
I noticed you didn't mention how much material you were using. The amount that
@stickstones used is about as much as you can possibly fit in the bowl. He also was using optimal conditions for visible vapour, which makes it look a lot thicker than it is.
How fine did you grind the material? Too fine of a grind can plug the top screen and prevent airflow. A chunkier fluffier grind is preferable if you are running stock screens.
How did you load the bowl? I suggest filling the bowl to the flare and barely tamping it down if at all.
Are your screens clear? Keeping your screens clean and clear is key to the performance of the vapourizer, particularly the top screen. What usually happens is the herb tends to rise up in the bowl and plug the top screen which causes all sorts of problems.
I use a domed pipe screen in my bowl that greatly improves the performance of the vapourizer and saves the top screen. All you need to do is take a pipe screen and bend the edges up until it forms a bowl shape like a bracket => ) . This should sit inside the flare of the chamber and just below the top edge. By doing this the vapourizer has improved airflow, better diffusion through the material, and can go far longer before needing to clean the top screen.
Since the Herbalizer is nearly a pure convection vapourizer, anytime you can improve airflow in the system you will also improve the vapour production.
