The Herbalizer

Gold star for reading the whole thread before posting. :)

Did you try specifically the Herbie bags, or did you just try bags randomly over at a friend's house that had them? Reason why I ask is I had only tried bags on other people's units. This, therefore, was somewhat sporadic and no where near exhaustive testing. I wasn't big on the whole bag thing. Then I got my Herbie and used both bag and whip as I was learning it. Now I almost exclusively use bags.

So, it might be worth a second look if you haven't had a lot of chance to play with them.

@nigel, I did try the Herbie bags a few times now along with the Volcano on numerous occasions. Actually used the Herbie bags quite a bit last weekend during the weekly poker game. The boys and girls including myself did enjoy using them but I find that they take up to much time. They all preferred either using a whip or a WT(FC-1000 with the Herbie and/or Mighty is fantastic :) ). I like to use WT's almost exclusively(cough cough...) but we will still use them on poker nights and perhaps other gatherings! Always nice to have options.

Cheers

I've heard enough of this thing not white-walling a bubbler! Here's how I do it, and it's damn near full proof, unless you put cheap herbs in there.

Load a whole nug, and make sure it at least comes up to the flare.
Turn the heat all the way up and hit it two or three times.
Open the bowl, flip the nug and give it another hit.
Then open it out, dump the nugget into your palm and crumble it up with your fingers.
Now put it all back in the bowl. It may fill it all the way up...that's okay.
The first hit will start to white-wall about half way through.
Clear the bubbler, stop choking and hit it a second time.
This will be the money shot.
Depending on your herbs, you can get three to five full on white-wall pulls out of it before it starts to slow down.

Enjoy!

This seems like a lot of work. I personally don't want to whitewall because my lungs are weak but if you grind your herb and crank the temp to max then the first hit is typically pretty dang intense for me. It does take a bit to get started. Isn't there a way to make the herbalizer go above 445? I thought that someone posted that on here a long time ago but can't seem to search for it. If you could go above 445 for just the initial part of a pull and then back it down before you start combusting then that would surely white wall the quickest.

I am fine with 445 F. It is so close to combustion temp (450's F) that I definitely would not want to risk combustion (f#ck combustion).
There are only some vapes that have superb temp control that dare go to 440 range.
Herbie and miniVAP come to mind.

Even the mighty Mighty and Crafty only go to 410 F.
I'm just glad some go to 440 range.

I don't think you will combust if you are at 460 or even 470 for a few seconds on the first hit when your herb still has a bit of moisture.

I do this when rolling with whole nugs. I wouldn't do all that just for clouds, as I am satisfied with it the way you use it for clouds. But for those chasing a little more, the whole nugget is tops. not grinding is what I think is key, and every time I do it this way it's the milkiest I can get.

I agree with your assessment in that I am also very satisfied with the Herbie. It's hits are the smoothest out of any Vape I tried which is why it is my go to Vape.

Looks like it is time for a repair. The plastic around the bowl chamber melted a little and now I can't fit it on. :/

OK I about had a heart attack with my Herbie and have some advice for people. Make sure the power cord is loosely plugged in. This saved me when I was walking out of my room and my foot snagged the power cord. Luckily mine just ripped out and the Herbie didn't even move off the table but this could have gone horribly the other way.

Maybe Apple will one day manufacture the iVape and include the maglock technology! Then again, the Herbie is the Apple of the vape world? I've saved my macbook more times than I can remember with the maglock.... reason enough to go mac for me! My t-fal deep fryer also has this tech.

Is there a gap between the bottom of the heating chamber and the plastic for people? I just noticed since my Herbie warped there is a very slight gap in one section but not in another. Top picture shows the gap and bottom shows no gap.

Also, should the heating chamber be cleaned? I likely need to mail this in for repair on Monday and I don't want to be mailing something that is covered in residue....

My unit developed a similar gap over time. I don't have any insight whether it will eventually turn into a problem or not, but it stiIl performs fine. The fans have also grown progressively noisier (motor/bearings).

I believe you pretty much answered your second question yourself. I'm considering sending mine in for service, if I do I'll give it a thorough cleaning.

I can appreciate your method and have found that so far that it does appear to produce slightly thicker clouds for me. However, for my personal experience, the thickest of my Herbie clouds is still noticeably thinner than my other vapes at similar temperatures.

I don't know why that is, just seems to be the case for me. It seems to me that this is not the case for most, and I still get quite medicated when using Herbie. Its just the difference between my Herbies clouds and the Herbies of other members is stark enough that I have contemplated returning it to massdrop.

I find that my Herbie (and miniVAP) seem to produce less clouds ( or maybe clouds that are more blueish and harder to see) than many other vapes BUT the effect is way more than other vapes.

I don't judge vapes at all by the clouds produced, but rather by the effect and I'd rate the Herbie and miniVAP effect as A++++ and would never give up either.

That's interesting to me, as the clouds I get with Herbie from the nugget method produce the milkiest whitewalls of any of my vapes. But only Herbie has the temp control/indication to compare. My HA tops out at 400, and all my others are analog vapes. I tend to run them all on high for comparison purposes, but I have no idea what temp the Evo, for instance, is topping out at.

I agree! The Herbie/nugget method literally has me stopping in the middle of a bowl as I get so choked. The MV just has a strong effect no matter how I use it...

Would you be using the standard whip? Fan assist or no? You take care to give specifics about load size so sounds like Id need to pluck a nug as close to the width and depth of the bowl chamber right?

You can make it a little smaller if you want. I just try to make it so that there are no air channels to go around the nugget. But it's not as important as I might have made it sound. All you're trying to do at first is dry it up and crisp it a little bit, and it doesn't matter how many hits that takes as far as performance goes. But if you pack it just right you can get away with two or three pulls before the crumble.

I use the standard whip and love it. Fan assist sometimes, sometimes not.

Sometimes I feel like I have an easier time fogging up my glass without the fan assist.

I did just soak and clean my Herbie bowl. Replaced the top screen and have @Ratchett's Herbalizer tool. We'll see what comes from this!
.................................................................................................

Having the @Ratchett silicone adapter (Song) allows some very useful options!!
I love Herbie with a Hydraline hydratube:

Or direct hits with the @Oregonglassblower glass mouthpiece onto the Song: It's got a nice feel to it and gives some great hits.

Man, it is quiet in here lately!

So question; who here owns multiple Herbalizer bowls? I was considering buying a 2nd one just to make it easier to use. I regularly go through 2-2.5 bowls a night, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a 2nd.

It's quiet because people are busy enjoying their Herbie. I got a 2nd bowl because I often need to do a super quick session and that allows me to have a clean bowl ready for me.

The good old Herbie got me through a stint in an apartment. It was the one home unit I kept out. Blow up a bag, walk outside and enjoy. Great machine. Glad I own one.

Anyone have any experience with these bags? I know a lot of people are still using the solid valve from a Volcano since Herbalizer bags are so expensive. They're like printer ink, except the printer wasn't cheap.
