You meant to say 'shut the valve off and let it cool' didn't you? Letting go of the button after it's lit does you no good.

If so, this would be the second time you forgot the valve......maybe you just don't like the valve?

OF

Not sure what you are saying here? The button turns on the flame only when depressed. When you let go of the button the flame goes off. There are only two real buttons/switches. The on/off trigger and the flame height/strength. The on/off button is pressure sensitive. You have to keep it pressed down in order for the flame to stay lit. If you release the trigger the flame will shut off automatically.

Ah, so. It's not built like the soldering iron then? More like a normal lighter.

Thanks for the correction.

Yep, it reminds me of the Ronson lighters with the trigger switches.

I believe it has a jet flame inside though.

Those are very colorful. Maybe one day we will make the Hammer in all of those colors!

That is correct, it is a jet flame. The butane only runs when the button is pushed. The dial controls the amount of butane to regulate heat, but the butane shuts off as soon as you let go of the button.

Sorry I didn't make this distinction earlier, OF. I have never used one of those soldering irons, so I guess I didn't realize the differences in the way it functioned.

No need to apologize. It seems you and I have exactly the same problem; looking at a familiar photo and never having used the similar tool?

FWIW I feel a lot better about the idea if it 'fails safe' (shuts down on it's own).

As I've said before, interesting idea/product.

kinda sucks I don't see more activity in this thread :) I'm kind of excited over this one being able to perform like a tabletop unit. only thing i'm worried about is build quality? ive seen these soldering irons around and they go for 20 dollars a piece? are they reliable enough? and when the soldering iron does fail? is the hammer module interchangeable?
I would very much like to try one out test it for quality and such :) too bad i live in Europe...

Of course we'd like to see more activity here too ;), but since the Hammer just publicly launched about two months, we know it will take time to get the word out and penetrate the market. Once the product becomes more widespread, we hope users will share reviews, feedback, tips, creative applications, etc on FC. Stay tuned Dopevape, the thread will grow in time.

It's a very durable product... I think Slim called it "well built" in an earlier post. A 1 year warranty is included. The top part is not interchangeable (good idea though).

We hope to see the Hammer shipping overseas later this year. We will try to update this thread as it becomes available in different countries/regions.

yeah i suppose thats it and then the others vapes comming out and all :)

Thanks for chiming in, sorry if i was a bit harsh about the build quality and the soldering irons but man we can't be critic enough these days!
Yes it does look durable indeed. I'm just afraid the heating unit will cut it out sooner then expected and such.. thats all. Anyway this is superb idea for sure power source and everything u name it, its there this thing have potential in my eyes if the adds on the soldering irons (sorry I am basing my thoughts on some soldering iron i found on EBAY which seems to be exact same handle) are correct should have about 30-50 watts power :o? is that correct?
1 year warranty nice nice.

So overseas later this year? cool :) I will be following this thread closely.

Meh im not much of a forummaster hehehe :D

I just picked one up, it should be here on Monday. Can't wait.

This looks like it has a lot of potential. I didn't really like the idea of a butane powered vape when I first started looking at portables, but it's really growing on me. Seems like it could offer nice fuel efficiency and big clouds at the same time, which would be really impressive in a portable. If it's easy to adjust cloud size on top of that, I'll be super pumped.

Can anyone comment on the efficiency? I'm kind of a freak about that. I sold off my Cloud because I didn't use it at much as my UD when I realized that the UD saved like 5% more herb... :o

I guess I'm not as picky about my portables, but it seems like with the bat-style hitter this could be really great conservation-wise.

Anyone who has a VG(pref the bat models) try this out? If so how does it compare?

AL - Looks like you will get it on Tuesday. 2-day UPS does not include Saturday.

I think you will really like it from an efficiency standpoint. I have mentioned this in earlier posts, but I can get 3+ good hits out of a .035g load so by my calculation that is like 85+ hits/gram. Not sure how this compares to UD or others, but it seems like a lot.

If you want a thicker vapor I would suggest setting the temp at about 60-65%, but it may take you a few loads to get a feel for the temp control and find the perfect setting for your material and personal preference. I run mine at about 45-50% for the first hit or two, then adjust it up a little to finish the load off.

I look forward to hearing your feedback once you get it and have time to play. Thanks for picking one up!

I usually vape out of a VG on the road, so I'll post a comparison to that when it comes in.

I'll probably set it around what you do for the first couple of hits, I'm not really a fan of massive clouds most of the time. That sounds absolutely sick from an efficiency standpoint though!

I have it up and running now.

It's a lot smaller than I would have thought from the video. Really tiny little thing. Really rugged, too. The plastic looked really breakable from the pictures but it's a lot sturdier than I would've thought.

The taste was very pure, much more so than my VG coil and classic.

I've got some stuff now, so I can't write a full review, but if anyone has any questions I'll do my best to answer them.

Thanks. How is it vs your vg for efficiency? Can you post a side by side photo next to your vgs?

I'll get a picture up when I finish with breakfast.

I haven't had a ton of time to play with it, but from what I can tell it's rocking the VG in the efficiency dept. It takes a little bit longer before you can actually start taking vapor hits, but it's way easier to control the size of your hit so I was able to get away with using very little. The airflow's really free, too.

Just ever so slightly off topic, what kinda Mazda do you drive? Got a 2011 Mazda3 myself, fun as hell to drive.

How many hits are you getting from a "normal" stem?

It's the same as yours but 2010s model. I really love it, but it's also my first car and I saved up for quite a while to get it, but so I'm probably a bit biased.

Honestly, I'm not even sure yet. I've been trying different loading sizes, but it's looking like three big clouds a stem if I load it all the way, but I've been loading loading lightly. It's around my UD efficiency-wise, but the stem size makes controlled dosing nice and easy so I've been taking less.

Hi AlBoldt

Thx for taking the plunge and testing this puppy out :). I would have done that but I'm in Europe.
Anyway 3 big clouds doesn't sound bad. Maybe in the future they could deliver longer sized stems at least a little bit longer loading area, for different type of users doesn't have to be alot just the option has to be included :). Being able to add 0.2/0.3gr. So like 2 stems different sizes that kind of thing.
Or make it possible the shove the screen further into the glass pipe? So like 2 spots where u can lock it into place with the nailtool instead of one. first one would be for small usage and second one for more moderate usage.

See, I think it works out fine. You have to carry a container with your ground herb in it if you want to use this portably anyway, so all you have to do is stick the stem in the container dugout-style and you're good to go in about 2 seconds.

The jet from the flame does create a nice little low pressure zone with the faster/hotter air, so if you put the stem to the vape in a weird way it can suck some herb into the jet. But just make sure you're inhaling a little before you make the seal and you're fine.

Temperature regulation took me a while, but I think I have a better idea now. I set it somewhat high at first, to get the chamber heated up nice and quick. Then I put it down to the lowest setting to try and maintain where I got it to.

I have been keeping up with FC for a few months, trying to stay informed about the emerging products available in the portable vaporization market. I've been an ardent supporter of the Volcano product line for wired home usage for as long as they've been available, but as we all know things are rapidly evolving in the portable area.

I am personally more inclined towards self-contained concentrate oriented devices for portable usage, but that's not really a fair comparison here. If I were to contrast my experiences with strictly flower oriented hand-held products things become a little more clear; this includes ioLite, nO2, etc. Basically anything that is not "automatic" or requires some type of physical manipulation during consumption, even if that is simply handling or positioning the unit.

In the interest of full disclosure, I had the pleasure of meeting the Hammer team after the last CHAMPS event and they were kind enough to offer a hands on demonstration of the product. A slight aside, they are a couple of nice cats and genuinely fanatical about their product, which I found to be absolutely refreshing :)

Initially my first impression was efficiency. The degree of control is maintained through three parameters: the temperature of the air path, the speed at which the air is traveling, and the density with which the draw tube has been packed.

Basically how long you've been heating the exchanger, how hard you draw and how well that hot air is moving across the product. There is definitely a learning curve and I certainly combusted the front half of my first load after getting a little excited - holding the torch button down after I had already pre-heated it - while I was dragging too hard for the second or third time

Once I got over the short learning curve I found it to be not only supremely efficient but a physically familiar way to utilize a very small amount of flower on an individual basis. As others have said it is very similar in concept to the experience of a standard "hitter" with a small pack in the end, although much more refined and smooth due to the finer temperature control. Using the product feels very traditional in the sense that you are manipulating the positions and intersections of the pack/draw stem and the heat source with independence.

I personally do not perceive these features intersecting well with concerns about stealth. It exhibits the audible cues of a butane torch, physically the format reproduces a familiar cue of consumption and the loading/unloading of small ground amounts leads me to see it fitting in best at home, or as others have said on a camping trip of sorts.

Looking forward to reading more testimonials in the future as I feel it is both well designed and unique enough to earn a place in the market.

I hated my iolite draw, and taste......turned me off to butane vapes.
Still, a part of me is actually kind of excited after the way its been described.

However, as OF said, it can fail at some point and the materials right now are questionable regarding withstanding temps? Is that a decent enough understanding of the concerns put forth thus far?

On the upside, this is a "frugal" vape that still produces good clouds?

I need to know, for $120-140 bucks, what's the warranty on this thing?
That would, in the future, be a "make it/break it" factor for me.

VisiblyVaped... if you compare this vaporizer to the PUFFiT you will be way more pleased with this product. The materials used in this vaporizer are of a higher quality. I am the same way you are about butane vaporizers. I feel like you end up inhaling all the by-product from the butane exhaust. The Hammer feels more like a lighter. The butane by-product will float up and away... since the device is not right below your face you are not getting a butane exhaust facial.

You can run the device for 90 seconds constantly before you need to worry about it getting hot enough to damage the materials. In my experience the initial warm up takes about 30 seconds. You pause between hits/bowls and the re-warm up time is much less that the initial warm up phase. I find that I do not run my device for longer then about 30-45 seconds at a time. I also have the lighter flame turned down quite low.

Thank you sir. Much appreciated..

I'm also in the Midwest, I'd probably be able to receive it rather quickly if ordered....
But I'd probably have to sell the puffit after I receive the new one, and I wonder if I have a need for this in my collection.
It wouldn't be as stealthy, but sounds more efficient..

Maybe I'll come across enough disposable income, the warranty isn't too bad but I fear being one of the first to order again......didn't work out well for me last time.
Sometimes the kinks need to be worked out in a new product/company......

Decisions, Decisions.
