This may have been posted before but in my hunt for tips and tricks I did not find this particular one. I was getting tired of cleaning this thing. I found myself constantly having to pick out pieces out of the little window and clean the grooves with a toothbrush. Part of the problem was my grind consistency -- too fine.
What I found was that if I take a screen (little larger than the ones supplied) and create a dome to cup around my herbals (somewhat decent pack) it seems to cook much better. I see twice as many clouds and everything is a nice even brown after a bit. One downside is that is can speed up your session but that's about it.
Opinions? Anyone do anything similar? I mean, it's given this vape new life.

I use a screen as well, but just leave it flat, does forming it into a dome create better vapor flow?Protip (That works for me)

Just tried laying it flat and it seemed to work just as well. I did find that more material snuck out around the edges and I evntually had to open 'er up and put things in their place.

Dont suck too hard for one, if you need to pull excessively, the vaporizer might leak air like mine did.
Damn I'm really curious about the future FF2.0
But one part of me is hopin it wont come any time soon as I've only just got my FF a few weeks now.
Besides they should probably test the FF2.0 extensively before mass production.
I'm secretly hoping the next FF will be a tad smaller, with a slightly bigger oven chamber (preferably only wider and not deeper) without losing any more of its battery life.
I might try and get ahold of some screen material as well, i have no real debris issue in my mouth but around the window it gets dirty quite fast, and when i pack the chamber too loose the material bumps up by the drawing.

Wish list for FF 2.0:
Would love a way to stir the bowl without opening the lid. Perhaps a button on the side that could be pressed to manually shift/stir the contents. Although that would probably defeat the simplicity of the design.

The one thing that shouldn't keep us up at night is worrying about 2.0 coming anytime soon.
(I can't imagine it being available before the end of the year or later, but that's a blind guess.). I do think smaller, and better battery life, are probably things they are working on. If it's the same size but has significantly better battery life, I'll be happy.Marctraider

I wonder, do you still have to stir the contents if you grind your 'stuff' to a real fine level? Or if you only pack the chamber half full?
Or when you pack the chamber with stuff on the bottom and fill the rest up with less important ingredients?
Also some technical stuff;
Am I right in assuming when you heat up the FF on first use, when the heating coil decreases its output (before the 30 sec timer) the FF is on maximum temperature?
Because I've yet to see someone base their heat up time based on the coils heat/light output if you know what i mean.
I usually heat up for as long until i see the chamber light down a little bit, which usually takes about 15/20 secs.
Also, im not sure if this is theoretically sound, but what if thet made the chamber wider and decrease its height, wouldnt that be more efficient and wouldnt that reduce or eliminate the need for stirring the bowl at all? I suppose it could affect the venturi effect though.

The first several seconds of each button push are the hottest moments in the cycle. You can watch the glow dim a few seconds in as the heat goes lower later in the cycle.
Want more heat? Pulse the button. Do it enough, especially with a top screen, and you will get the chamber and the FF itself very hot. You'll also drain the battery a lot faster. But pulsing is a valuable tool on an FF that runs a little cool for your liking.

I do believe that my silver FF has cured my VAS. Not that I had a bad case to begin with, I've only been vaping for 1 year. My first was the NO2, then MLFB. Since acquiring my FF last April, it's the one I use most often. I like how easy it is to load (and reload) and how little maintenance it requires. Also, until using this beautiful device, I thought all the talk about FLAVOR was just talk.
I guess I'm not completely cured as it turns out, I find myself thinking about buying a 2nd FF.
Sometime the stars and planets really DO ALIGN. This past week, my wife has been experiencing really bad back pain so I had her try my FF loaded with some recently acquired BLUE DREAM. It worked so well for her that she said: " I think we should buy a second one of these 'machines'."
Oh well, who am I to argue with the lady. Order placed this morning @VapeWorld for the shiny RED model. (cannot wait for the rumored FF-2.0).

I'm sure it'll be a while before we actually see "The Firefly 2.0," but I thought some of you might be interested in what you can find by googleing. If you do a search for NWT Holdings you'll find two things:
(1) They're hiring, not surprising considering how well I imagine they're doing with the vaporizer market taking off, but the job descriptions have an interesting detail. It seems they're looking for a marketing director, general manager, and COO. (I'm not qualified for any of those jobs, but maybe someone here would like to go work for them) The interesting detail is that those jobs have descriptions saying that the people should be able to "Ensure proper inventory management (10 SKUs going on 100)."
That sounds to me like they're planning on expanding the product line. If 10 SKUs covers one product and its accessories, 100 leaves quite a bit of room to grow.
(2) According to some trademark search website, NWT Holdings has trademarks for such things as Firefly, Vapor Surfing, et cetera, but also Butterfly and Dragonfly.
I would guess that we might see a few new models in the future.

Ok, consider me officially intrigued. I had my FF down for a month while I played with my new Mighty, but now continuing my love affair with it.
Sounds right. Firefly used Lithium Ion batteries while vapes like the MFLB use NiMH (at least for glyphs). I used to be into electric bikes. Li batteries last longer and have a different power loss curve. More abrupt and less sensitive to cold. They can handle high discharge rates but are a violate chemistry. They last longer. Something like a LiFePo4 battery that i used to use on my bike is heavier but safer to charge and discharge.
Not sure what other vapes use though. The quality of the battery is also huge.

Why are you guys using screens? Wouldn't that comprimise flavor and add alot of conduction based heat? I find using mini nugs or hand broken material keeps anything from getting ditry and let's you rip as hard as you'd like. I see adding the screens as a huge negative to the device all together. But maybe I am wrong

ISO. Wipe the bowl and the steel plate with a damp paper towel with ISO. Don't use too much, and hold the FF upside-down when you wipe out the bowl to minimize any dripping.
Top screens can increase heat as has been discussed. In the early days of this thread you'll see that top screens have occasionally caused combustion (or at least their use has correlated with combustion). Combine one with a dense pack and too aggressive button-pressing and you can get it a little too hot. (If you are experiencing real combustion you'll have smoke pouring out of the device. If you are just getting some charring, that's pyrolysis and is normal in a convection vape with a dense pack.)
Yes it can add a touch of conduction and raise heat. I use one in the latter stages of a bowl, where taste is already degrading and extra heat is helpful. Doesn't impact flavor in any noticeable way and can be useful if you are trying to boost extraction. But it can raise heat and maybe cause issues...see Mike's post above...

Thought I would post here as well in The Might Thread:
I have both, and equally love them. They are so apples and oranges in comparison.
The Mighty is the best of conduction, and does everything it says it does. Gets every bit out of your herb, is an ease to use, and leaves the ABV perfect, without any stirring.
The FF is the best of convection and an entirely different beast. I love the idea of hitting only when I want a hit, unlike the Mighty where the "Clock is ticking" from the moment you turn it on. Also, cleaning could not be easier and I love the feel of it in my hand.
With the Mighty, you have to really concentrate with how you manage the use since once you fire it up, it starts to cook.
With the FF, you can get lost in other endeavors (music, movies, etc) and not worry that you are wasting vape that is cooking.
I had the Mighty for the last month, and have been using exclusively, but then I went back to the FF, and fell in love with it again. The FF is harder to use,(there is technique to master) but I love that the session is completely under my control.

I am 90% sold on getting a FF but will wait for 2.0 - it seems a little user unfriendly with all the quality control issues and people having to use top/bottom screens etc...
I was also a little surprised at the weight (held my friends yesterday). I emailed the FF team but they would not let on whether a 2.0 version is coming (probably don't want to effect current sales).

Good morning.
I received a Firefly for Christmas, and have been reading this thread to learn technique from everyone (Thank you, btw). One recurring theme has been about some having battery problems, and the great customer service experience with Firefly. Well, I've experienced it now myself.
I contacted Firefly because my battery is very inconsistent, often dying on the first load (as few as 2-3 hits sometimes), and never getting far into the second. Brooke in CS suggested turning it on and off 5 times, quickly, and this did seem to help a little, but it is still inconsistent. Well, I received an email yesterday (Sunday), stating I would be receiving a new battery from their distributor, VapeWorld. This morning, I received notification from VapeWorld that it has already shipped. Hopefully, this will solve my problem, but either way, I'm impressed with how quickly they took care of me, and how hassle-free they've made the experience. Kudos to Firefly and their staff!
By the way, the last email from Patrick at Firefly contained an important warning. To quote; " Obviously, I suggest that you not use the battery you currently have as it may damage your Firefly." Thankfully, I can rely upon my Herbalizer in the meantime

I actually like the "heft" of it, feels solid in my hand. If you are 90%, I would do it. The screen thing is just a preference, and does not need to be used. Also, with how great the FF is, I would think it would be a year or more for a FF 2.0.

I have combusted with out the screen just by adjusting my intake speed while I was toggling the button.I also believe it was helped by my packing.Although I guess it could of been pyrolisis.I read the def of this word and im guessing it is what happens right before combustion but im not positive on that.lol
