Ok, I've had my FF for a couple of weeks now & I'm getting the yellow overheating light on nearly every bowl. Is anyone else experiencing this? My seller has offered to replace the unit for me but just wanted some feedback from you guys to see if I'm going to get the same again with a new unit.

I've never seen the yellow light on my unit. It seems to have come up a couple times in this thread, but I don't recall it being a common thing. I'd get a replacement.

Sorry to hear about you guys having trouble lately. I've certainly been there when it comes to portables (haven't we all?) but my FF has offered me more than a year of consistency of performance. The only issue I've had was a semi-dud battery that has been replaced.

I've gone back to using it away from home the past couple weeks and it's been working well. I find that it sits rather comfortably in my back pocket. Although, it helps that I never sit down at work!

For me, it is pretty practical for away from home. Since I only want 1 or 2 tokes and need to take them fast, I just want to duck away from everyone for a minute then pop back in. I still tend to only need one bowl and one battery to get me through the day since I'm such a lightweight. No stirring, no waiting, no surprises, and very, very little smell. And that flavor always makes me feel better instantly. It's like aromatherapy for your mouth. :ko:

For some, I think the FF can be a fantastic portable even when not at home.

The only problem for me away from home is that when people do see it, they sure want to look more closely at it and know what it is. It's an attention-grabber when out in the open. Everybody wants to hold it.

The Firefly continues to be the second-best vaporizer EVER () .... in my world. After the legendary Heat Island, of course... :D

I'm with EDA. 8 FFs so far and haven't seen a yellow light that I can recall. If this were my issue, I'd grab the chance for a full device replacement. No downside other than being without the FF for a few days.
Hey guys,

Been a while since I posted in here, but seems like my FF is draining too much power, batteries dying way sooner than they should and seems like it may even be hitting a little hotter. I've got an RMA and FedEx label to send it in for inspection, the FF may even be drawing power when off.

I hope I can get it back to my original experiences, slightly worried about it coming back and hitting slightly different or hotter than I had been enjoying. But I guess we'll see, dont know if they'll be able to repair it or if they'll just replace it

Seems like they often just replace it. So you may get a new FF that is slightly different, but just roll with it...they are all a little different in my experience. A brand new one...that's a good thing!

On the plus side, unlike some portables, it doesn't look like some kind of hand grenade or explosive ordnance. So at least Homeland Security won't have any interest in holding it. Or you.:lol::rofl:

I've gone through 3 batterys only one performs like it should. One blinks red and green when trying to charge. And the other just doesn't hold a charge at all.

And i can't get a proper Hit from a cold unit. Always needs heated up... still a sexy unit though

What the hell is going on with all these batteries? Seems like one person after another on FC are having problems recently. My replacement is working fine so far.

I sure am not going to be buying any new batts for a while though... :\

The battery issue is baffling, and frustrating. I'm juggling three new batteries. Some days, I swear they are all fully charged, and yet they all go red in a hit or two. I'm sitting there like an idiot with two FFs and no usable battery. Then I charge em all up and they all work fine.

I'm starting to conclude that a full charge dissipates in an idle battery in like 12 hours. I need to do a little testing to be positive, because that seems really...unacceptable. Guess I'll make sure my charges are as "fresh" as possible.

Like I said, never boring. :p

Now that you mention it the ff does look like some kind of remote-control detonator, as imagined by a 1960s james bond or star trek writer :borg:

One of my 3 batteries just went down.

Says it's done charging after ten minutes, yet has no charge. Will contact them on Monday , are they good about sending replacements?

Kind of bummed, I like the FF so much that I invested in two extra batteries, and two extra charging stations, so I could have extended sessions.

Having replaceable batteries is great, now if they could only get them to work;)

Did you buy from FF? If so, no worries...they have great service and I'm sure they'll replace a defective battery. It won't be the first one....

Yeah, ordered the batteries and chargers from them, thanks.

Hope they send a new one without waiting for this one, without my third battery, can't have the kind of session I like.

I really like this device, and it seems all the portable vaporizers I'm interested in trying or owning have a ton of problem / quirks. Not sure if it's just consistency or quality control :/ little things that might've been overlooked in version 1 to be ironed out for v2.

I'd love to try one before buying, but not sure if that's feasible. I guess with the temperature and stresses portables are put through, maybe it's just inevitable. I guess plug-ins are more robust from not having to deal with additional design constraints.

anyone heard from a rep as to why the battery batches seem to be so inconsistent? I would've thought they'd improve in successive generations, but they seem to be even flakier.

it pains me since it looks like such a cool little device, and as a sorta affordable portable oonvection vape, does the FF have any competitors?

sorry if this was kinda incoherent. I'm fairly sleep deprived and a bit loopy.

edit: slight clarification

Hey folks,
This is my first post in fc and I just want to give my personal opinion and tips on the firefly without stepping on any toes.
I'm new to handheld vaporizers, well I had a vapor genie a few years ago but that lung powered monster lost my interest after I rediscovered quality glassware.
A friend introduced me to the pax and I was immediately hooked! After researching online I decided to get the firefly for these three main reasons: convection taste, efficiency and easy maintenance.
I tried all the recommended methods suggested here and finally got it down to where I get 4-5 quality hits out of a measly .15 g. No disrespect to everyone else's method, but mine might help noobs like myself to get massive tasty rips from the firefly. Especially considering how much results can vary with the ff, specifically for a novice like myself.
Start with a .3 nug, grind it to a fluffy/shredded consistency. If it's too nuggy your lungs will have to work harder then necessary and if it's too fine you'll have un-vaped particles in your airways, in addition to wasting your expensive medicine.
Take your. 3 g pile of shredded herb and divide in half. Take one of the .15 piles and tightly roll it into a ball with your thumb, pointer and middle finger. Drop it into the ff bowl and give it one nice soft pat down. It will be the perfect pack; not too loose, so it stays in place and not to tight where you can't get good airflow.
For a first hit/cold start, preheat for 10 seconds, release and hold 3-5 seconds until the chamber lights up, then comes the most important part IMO... Don't "pull", "toke" or "take a drag", SIMPLY "BREATH" THROUGH THE FIREFLY. You'll get smooth, delicious results every time. Any harder and you do get a hit, but I believe it is counter productive as the air may be going through the heating element too fast to provide accurate and sufficiently heated air. I just breath/inhale like I do normally, albeit for a sustained 20-25 seconds, which the mouthpieces orifice makes easier.

This method sat my ass down ! Especially the first two hits. My God!!

Please try this and let me know what you guys think. I hope it helps.

PS: this method is also extremely clean, haven't had any escaped particles in my airpath so they stay nice and clear. And gunk free as well.

PSS: a quick stir after the second hit helps A LOT!

Your method is ehat I always been doing! I pack till its little bit over the rim,

NUMBER ONE TIP TO KEEP IT CLEAN!
Putting a screen on top of the your herb. Keeps this thing so clean. Keeps the flow good. Also keeps it heated really good inside.

ONE MORE TIP!!!
When you do start to pull/breathing in stop pressing the botton as soon as you start feeling something let go of the botton and keep pulling! Saves battery and u get a fat hit with out caoughing it all out... lol you know what i mean.

One more last tippppppp...
Dont take more then 1.5 min breaks... when ever u wait between hits and its hot your herb is burning.. so keep hitting!

It's convection so the herbs aren't cooking at all since the heater is separate from the bowl (which cools down very fast)

You are 100% correct. There is ZERO consumption of material in the FF when you aren't actively drawing. Even if you hold down the button, the FF will not cook your herb unless you are taking hits. The whole point of "on demand" heating is that you can hit whenever you want and not worry about either heat-up time or passive cooking of material.

Several of us have conducted (no pun!) tests to confirm the lack of any substantive conduction with the FF. There's more on this specific topic here, if you're interested:

Dropping that tight ball of ground herb in the bowl is so effective I haven't needed a second screen at all. Airways stay nice and clean too. I wipe it off once or twice a day and it still looks like new except the browner screen:D. I also don't tap or shake it either, just dump it out and pour it back in after 2-3 hits, and you get a couple more nice ones.

I love the Firefly:luv:

YES to this, slow drawls, with as little air as possible going through produces the best effects for me

Hi Marc. Welcome to FC.

Well there are three choices...1. Your lid magnet is too weak, as TNT suggests (not uncommon); 2. Your lid is seated incorrectly (user error, super common, happens to me five times a day!); 3. Your lid is defective.

If it's number 3, it's covered. If you purchased from FF they will send you a new lid. If you purchased somewhere else, contact them.

This is a new one to me. (Oh FF, you never bore.) If you are sure the mouthpiece is leaking, you might wanna request a replacement for the unit.

Now that I read your last sentence I'm guessing you didn't buy from FF. Again contact whomever you bought it from and see about a lid or entire FF replacement if you are unhappy with the mouthpiece. It's all covered by warranty and you should have a device that works correctly, which it sounds like yours does not, at the moment.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks for the response.

Today I received a new Firefly cover for free! No RMA or anything.

It seems to have solved the issue. Also, for the mouthpiece I bought a few torx bits to see if i could get the mouthpiece out, but it seems way to complicated to get it out without totally breaking the device or damaging it.

Instead, I cleaned the outer side of the mouthpiece where it starts connecting with the device itself, and where the leak is coming from. I used some greenish Bison glue around the mouthpiece to see if it helped, waited an hour and the green glue started to become totally transparent!

So visually its barely noticable, and did it fix the problem? Yep :)
I can now put my thumb on the air inlet and suck on the device but there is zero air leaking now :)

I can finally see some big clouds coming off my vapour. I wasnt really satisfied with the taste of my usual tobacco and it wasnt as moist as I'd like it to be, so I combined the firefly with some nice Pipe Tobacco sweet vanilla :)

It's just tasty! I'm really satisfied now :)

Who knows if im satisfied enough to buy another pair of batteries too :) Thats the only downside on this thing as i can see.

No wait. I have another issue that sometimes I can barely get any cloud/vapour out. It happens sometimes, not always. The heating element seems to be working consistently so I dont think that is the problem. Perhaps I just havent practiced enough with the technique yet?
I dont seem to be filling up the chamber too much either.

Cheers!

Glad you got a new lid. Wow, that mouthpiece fix is very resourceful of you. Nice job...I guess there really was some sealant missing in there somewhere. (You can remove the mp more easily by taking off the steel plate and exposing the inside chamber, but obviously it's not worth the effort and can void your warranty.)

It's likely just a technique issue...more practice, more playing with the variables. Even after 13 months with the FF I have days where I pull more vapor than others. It can be a fickle device even for an experienced user, and that's part of the charm in some ways...because when it delivers it's really unlike other portables in its flavor and coolness. Keep practicing, and again check out the "best of" thread, it's got a lot of good technique approaches from many users...surely some of their tips will help you.

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/best-of-the-firefly-vaporizer-thread.16628/

Well actually today i got the biggest hits ive had so far with a technique change.

Slower drawing and keep drawing a few seconds after you released the heating button. Ive noticed a few times how alot of vapor still gets produced after the button is pressed up, this really seems to do it for me!

I called them about the one bad battery and one on the way out, and they sent me two new ones by 2 day delivery.

If i do too slow of a draw I will easily overcook the bud too fast, I feel personally fast draws are the way to go, I always get a huge cloud too.

So further update from me

Vapeworld had me send my FF back to them. They are going to test it and see why it is draining batteries so fast and seem to be running at higher temperature that should be expected. They said if its a small fix it will be repaired, or if something bigger or unknown they will send me a new unit. So hoping to hear back soon as I already mailed it and it was received by them last Friday. Without my FF I have to resort to joints, which take SO MUCH MORE herb/time/money for the same effect as a few draws on the FF.
