I just had a little luck using a second screen to add support from beneath. I lowered it to about 5/16"-3/8" for the load. Here are the results after two fulfilling pulls, not whole milk, but very satisfying pulls none the less.

Got the last one at my head shop. They warned me that they ordered 4, and of those 4 2 had to be sent in for bad batteries. One person loved his, and I was gambling on the 4th, but other than that they all loved it and said the bud flavor was the best.
On the way home I said fuck it and tried a ground up bowl and liked it, but decided a screen mod has to happen. The 2nd bowl was broken up by hand not ground. It was the best tasting cannabis experience I've ever had, concentrates included.
Now I'm charging it like I should have, but I broke the rules and used it on the original partial charge. If I got 2 bowls out of a partial charge I'm guessing my battery life should be ok. I'm planning on getting another battery and the charger. Any way to get a deal on those?
I know most vapes are great in the "honeymoon period" but holy hell consider me impressed. A potent vape with the best flavor ever, and for me there was no learning curve at all and it seemed easier than any other convection portable as far as ease of use.
I'm super duper impressed and very glad I got it so far. Also I settled for silver and really wanted red, but the silver really grew on me. Its very classy looking. The carrying pouch is very nice to have included.
This will be my only portable I use for a little bit so I can put it through the paces. My biggest regret is waiting this long to buy it.

Well I've really been enjoying this vape for a bit now. Here is just one way I love to use it...
edit: I agree with the talk about the thermal mass. The FF does seem work best when fully warmed up. I also feel this heater is powerful, and when utilized with a narrower chamber, thermal mass does not need to be reached to achieve large pulls from the start.

I agree. I know what I went through, and it was a matter of mismatched expectations.
I loaded material, pressed the button, drew slowly, felt nothing, and stopped. I had no expectation that the bulk of the vapor would come after I let the button go. Once I figured that out I was able to refine my technique and get great results.
Also everyone's definition of "combustion" may be slightly different, although there should be less subjectivity there. I have often observed charred areas in my ABV, even to the point of being black. And I have experienced a slight "burnt" flavor while vaping with the FF. But by no means do I feel "combustion" has occurred.
To me, combustion means a glowing cherry and whitish ash. None of that for me with the FF. It sounds like mitchgo61 did experience this.
I imagine that there are temperature differences between units, but even if mine runs a little cooler than some others, I would bet it is "within tolerance".

Call FF and talk to Shelby...ask her if you can get in on the Premium Package deal for the battery and charger. Tell her you are an FC regular. Not sure if they are still doing this deal but it's worth a shot. They also just lowered the price of the charger, I think....
Glad you are enjoying! The FF will grow on you, and you'll like it even more as you find a deeper personal rhythm with it.

I like it for a 1st hit of the day vape.
Fast and true.
While all my other vapes are turned on or are getting the heat turned up, the FF is good.
My SSV is on 24/7 .
from 6 a.m. until midnight it is at 1 p.m. on the dial.
for those 6 sleep hours, it is at a low setting that requires about 60- 90 seconds to get to useable heat.
(that is fast)
Herbalizer also is ready to go in 10 seconds (that is dead fast)
trust me---> I would not get rid of either of those 2 tools... EVER.. but.....
The heavy solid weight of that FF, is easy to hold onto in early morn.
and as my SuperStar vapes are getting ready during those "10 second... and 60 second" brief intervals...
I was able to do two good hits off of the FF.
When my FF load is spent it dumps easily.
I brush out the bowl... and do same to window's inside.
I take a short piece of SSV tubing into my lips, and I suck out the bowl, and window backing.. not a crumb left in sight.
I use soft cotton (old T-shirt section) and wipe off inside of lid and the flat surface of the body, and done.
Satisfied and medicated.. the first few seconds of the day were made easier by the Firefly. by now .. both of my "Starting Lineup" solid state vapes are cooking for the morning's activities.

Can this style battery be left overnight in the car in Massachusetts winters without losing its charge or doing damage?

I mostly agree. It's completely portable. But given some of its tolerances (need to hold it level...need to open the lid a lot, at least I do....not an easy vape to hand someone and say "here!" without giving them some guidance...) I think it's less "on the go" than other portables. Someone described it as a "personal portable" which I like. Not the vape I'd bring to a party, if anyone ever invited me to a party.
I live in Maine, I'm not the best person to ask about Mass cars.
Seriously though, I have read cold temps can affect the battery...not sure it'll do damage but it may not hold its max charge.

I like an on the go portable to be loaded and have some longevity, and not need a button pushed.. so I can focus on being "on the go".. (driving, walking, using keys with one hand etc.)
This is a wonderful personal in home portable for me... but to be on the road I need a "session" with impunity (INH, Iolite, Indica, Pax type -prolonged sessions)
Now what it is also to me, is a portable to bring along, for breaks in a public day!
run out to car.. load a fast blast, and back inside!
now along those lines it is an "on the go portable"....
Perhaps what I meant was an "on the move portable"!!

I like being able to use mine on the go even in the three little cafes I use throughout the week. Just sit in a darker corner and use a SmokeBuddy Jr. or if it's really dead I'll pop out to the smoking porches and be done so quickly that I won't have to deal with anyone.
Very, very little smell involved, and in my situation, that's the most important factor. "Session" portables would have people sniffing me out in a matter of seconds.
If you have time to quickly open the lid for a few seconds then the FF will barely smell, if at all. It'll only create a slightly noticeable smell if you put it in a bag and zip it up and don't open it up again for a while.
It can be a little challenging to drive and use the FF at the same time. I wouldn't recommend it, but it can be done.

my ff experience had me combusting loads right out of the gate. in the first week it wasn't uncommon for me to press the button and see smoke forming in the bowl. several times the whole load was burning and i had to dump on my desk and take the lid from my grinder to snuff out the burn. with an empty bowl i'd press the button and i'd see the screen, at the hottest point of the bowl, lighting up hotter than the rest of the screen. so i had a hot spot. i took that screen out and cleaned it, stretched it out, put it back in. after that horrible experience i couldn't combust if i tried. and i have. i've tried to scorch a load and the combustion just doesn't happen anymore. i do small three second warm up, pull hard for 10, let off button continue pull. amazing results. and always super yummy tasting.

Vitola you have given me my vapor lineup for 2014. I have been shopping for tools for my new hobby. I'm waiting for my firefly, but the Silver Surfer and Hebalizer are next on my to get list. The Herbalizer will be the last purchase because of price. I just hope its still available by the end of April.

The problem you were having, franklin... was your screen was making contact with the coil in one spot.
it drained all power to that spot.
It is a good thing you fixed it when you did, and as well as you did.. you otherwise would surely have burned out that coil!

While I agree that the screen had something to do with it, looking back at the tear down pics, I find it nearly impossible for the screen to touch the coil. There is the heat diffuser(metal with 5 holes), then some ceramic looking plate, all between the screen and the coil.
Either way, I'm glad you got it working.
Hey, anyone notice In the teardown pics that the circuitry is not fully separated from the airpath? Where the 2 wires come off the board and out to the coil, looks like an a space where air can get through. ..

On the top..from bowl itself to mouthpiece, I see no place for air to get through in picture of break down, or in person.
When I remove the top... airpath is in front of me... clear as can be.
with top off... if I inhale (suck hard) through mouthpiece... and cover hole at same time, there is absolute vacuum.
Now in the case of the wires to the coil, I am comfortable with the level of isolation that I see, and fee comfortable that the preheated air that enters in fact cool off any connection. it is "post-heat circuitry".. circuitry and wires in the actual vapor path that we avoid.

Agree, I'm not freaking out about it. They do have a "wall" between the intake and circuitry, the wall does have a break for the wires, but the airspace around the circuitry is actually "dead"(sealed), so there is no vent to actually have airflow through there. And as you said, any air over the circuitry is pre heater, so its cool air (if any).
I ain't stressing, just a small detail I noticed.
If they wanted to be 100% sure no "circuitized" air make it in the vapor, they could (can still) add little high temp medical grade silicone plugs in the air gap around the 2 wires.
Either way, right now I feel it's 98% clear...

Before any other if my portables (desktops too) are ready to go, the FF has already filled my needs. Extra batteries are truly necessary, but the instant vapor and speed of delivery are priceless to me.

I get what you mean and I see how you can prefer an "automatic" portable for on the go, but so far I was able to use this while walking a new to me foster dog black lab haha. That is a true test! I don't find it hard to use while driving, even in a 5 speed, but that is personal preference. Sure the pax is easier, but coming from the zillion other vapes I've used, the firefly is as simple as "click. Inhale. Enjoy."
In case you can't tell I'm absolutely loving this thing and neglecting my other portables. Hell even my evo hasn't been used since I got this, because the flavor is amazing and the ease of use on this can't be beat. This vape slowed down my rapid moving switch to oils, because the flavor and efficiency of such small bowls is hard to beat with this thing.
