Yeah, its a lot better now after using the baking soda paste, Id say it got rid of 50percent of the smell. I see purple power online at some of the headshops. Out of curiosity, I will see if I can email them(purple power) to ask if its safe health wise to use on a vaporizer, thanks for the heads up. I do have a bottle of the purple power glass cleaner, it doesnt say anywhere that its a degreaser, Im wondering if we are talking about the same product? I put the lid outside to get a full day of fresh cold air (not freezing air). And yes, more and likely I will just learn to live with it at this point, and apply more baking soda from time to time. Update: just took it in from out in the fresh air and the smell is almost completely gone! So I guess its a combination, ISO, baking soda paste and cold fresh air! thanks everyone for the help. and no it wasnt me that combusted it.

Sorry man, now I think we probably aren't talking about the same Purple Power product *smacks forehead*. I wasn't aware they made other products at all, but I used to use their degreaser all the time in a kitchen and so that's what I initially associated it with. But I'm glad to hear that it's better smelling now anyway! Probably better that way than using any chemical based cleaner :D, I'll have to remember the baking soda paste + ISO trick for the future.

thanks for the reply, yeah, the fresh cool air seemed to help too, and so did the dish soap. I guess It just takes a lot of attention to get the smell out.

After much internal debate about whether or not to order I finally pulled the trigger and my FF arrived from PIU on Thursday.

I have to say each day I use this device I grow more attached to it. Have been blowing Clouds since day one but was having trouble getting the nice flavor I kept reading about in this thread.

Finally starting to dial in those flavor hits more but still not quite there yet.

Technique is IMO the most similar to the Thermovape T1 of any vape I have tried. This is the technique I am getting best results with anyway.

Any tips on really locking in those flavor clouds would be great.

Yeah! A lot like the T1, flavor rips at the start. Best way to maintain it is smaller hits, stir every hit (or at least every two), fully flipping the load so green is on the bottom brown on top. Also you can try doing a whole nug, great way to maximize flavor and make stirring simpler, well until you break up the nug to keep hitting it later ofcourse, but flipping it is easy first.

Are you saying just turn the FF upside down between hits?

Will a slight shake like the MFLB work to shake the load a little?

Thanks for the tips. Will give it a try with my session later.

Mileage varies, all over town.

I get like zero results when I use too little. I pack the bowl densely and get 25 huge rips from a bowl that way. Yes, the first 10-12 are the really tasty ones.

Everyone finds their own path with the FF. As the Dead used to say, you just gotta poke around. :p:nod:

Nah, open it up, scrape the top of the bowl (green) over, then scoop out the darker on the other side. Then push the green in the bowl and put the brown on top. With a full bowl course grind that is, or do this with a full nug flipping it is easier. I have a perfect stir tool for this, metal collar stay, magentic to FF lid, perfect flipper shovel tool and it also looks cool on the FF body. Pics posted somewhere in here...

If you flip the FF or use too little or fine grind, it sticks to the lid and blocks vapor channels in my experience. Once I locked in this system it was very consistent, do it every two hits, first hit the taste maker next hit the cloud maker. My very first Firefly was different though, ran cooler and better imo without stirring, so your mileage may vary of course... Right @mitchgo61? :p

I've had the FF for quite a while now. Bought it of a friend who imported it from the US and couldn't kick combustion, way before it was available in Europe.

It's an amazing vape, and now that I've got plenty of vapes to compare it to, it still shines as one of the best portables I've ever used.

I've skimmed through this thread to see what's new. I've already tried the pads, and I see there is a new battery I should get. Which is good, because the one sucky thing of this is the bat.

So, do any of you proper FF enthusiasts have any FF tips for me for the upcomming year? :)

TIA

Mine from PIU came with the new 770 battery. Was gonna order a second but this one is giving about 4 bowls per charge.

Not a workhorse battery like my Mighty hit very respectable.

25 hits from a bowl? I get one big one, maybe squeeze two, but that's it, per bowl..

I'm talking nearly .2 grams in a bowl. If you could consume that amount in two hits....well, I wouldn't wanna meet your lungs in a dark alley.:rofl:

Have you skimmed the best of FF thread? A lot of concentrated advice there (no pun intended!).

Well I'm happy to say I finally purchased my (silver) Firefly today! Not happy to say that there definitely has to be something wrong with it. When I first opened the box (after cutting and removing the wrapping) I noticed a dent/scratch on the front of the Firefly's silver cover. I was bummed out but wanted to pop the battery in and charge it. I put it in and turned the power on just to see if it had a charge, it didn't as I thought. Its definitely been sitting on that headshop shelf for a long time.

Here's where it gets buggy. I plug it into the charger and I watch the blue lights pulse, then every here and there a green light would pop in there. Then a green-blue-green pattern would come up later. It was like after every 4-5 blue light flashes, it would throw in a game of Simon.

Then the red light started showing up in the patterns too, but soon the red light started to appear frequently and stay solid for a long amount of time before switching back to the blue flashes. The instructions don't say anything about other colors besides blue while charging. Additionally I charged it for over an hour and it just kept doing this, but as the time went on the red light appeared more and more. It never went solid blue like it should have (well at least I assume it should do that?) and eventually I said F it and decided to try it.

It was pitiful. The first 3-5 draws were always disappointing with no visible vapor (and little taste) at all basically, but I noticed that after the first 3-5, if you continued to REALLY toast the thing - like to the point where most of the back/bottom/sides within an inch from the visible glass screen were quite hot to the touch - it would finally produce a nice vapor cloud for one or two hits. Then, after being excited for a moment, I'd go for the next draw and notice nothing... the thing would be dead. No light indication or anything, it just had a continuous green flash the entire time while it was on.

Afterwards I would plug in the device, watch it play Simon for an hour and a half before I decided to trying it. I'd switch it on, see the green light come alive, then I hold the button and see nothing - the green light went out. No matter what I do when sliding the power switch on and off, the led never lights up. So I plug it in, it lights up, then I instantly remove it from the charger and turn it on. Then it works like before, where the first 3-5 draws are very weak, and the next work amazingly. I've noticed if I let the Firefly charge to the point where the light goes solid red and STAYS SOLID RED then it seems the device won't stay on or even try to turn on. Then if it does work, suddenly it dies out of nowhere or will turn itself off and I'll need to plug it back in just for a second to let it allow me to turn it back on.

Does this sound like a defective device? Or a defective battery?

P.S. sorry for the wall of text, and I apologize if its confusing. I'm pretty medicated, as I've been frustratingly trying to use this thing basically all night on and off.

Sent my firefly in for repair yesterday, I hope when it returns I will get a better experience from it. I have been less than satisfied so far but it seemed to work better when i gave the oven lid a squeeze, I'm just not the kind of guy that likes to two hand my vapes. I just hope when it get back the firefly will light up my night.

Sounds like the device is defective...it's possible it's the battery but I suspect it's the device. You shouldn't see different colors when charging. Blue pulsing while charging....blue solid when done charging. Red if and only if the device is overheated when you try to charge it.

Is the heating coil getting red during these sessions with sub-par performance? I'm guessing the coil isn't heating consistently.

I would return it if you still see the same behavior with a new battery. Hopefully your retailer is authorized or will replace the unit for you. (If you can give us more details about the coil when you're using it it might help, but given the succession of lights you see while charging something is very off.)

Got my FF back today....overnighted from Seattle. Same device and batteries, no note.....bowl was clean and new looking....guessing they replaced internals? Not sure but 1st draw the bowl got way brighter than before and I got a huuuuge hit off of It which I never got when I had device new 2 weeks ago.....hopefully it's all good now....

Another question I have is removing battery from device or the charger. Really hard to get out and have been using small pry device to get them out....would rather not but....can you all remove batteries without a tool? Or are they just like that?

Thanks

The batteries are hard to remove, especially from the FF itself. I use a small key, or a small flat-edge bit, to pop out the battery. Gently. Some people put a piece of thin tape on the bottom side of the battery to create a pull-tab to remove it. I've never tried this myself. (I can't remember who did this but he posted a pic....it's likely in the best-of thread.)

Can't believe I waited so long to get this vape. Finally getting those big flavorful clouds I was looking for.

Slow draw to pass hot air over the load and gradually increase the draw speed. Let go of the button ten seconds after starting the hit.

I have been stirring after each hit then packing the bowl down before putting the cover back on. Consistent results every time now that I mastered a technique.

Big thanks for the help with my earlier questions.
