Discontinued The Firefly Vaporizer

Anyone know fireflys discount code on their site?
Alternatively anyone know the cheapest place to purchase the new 770mah battery, external charger, and concentration screens considering firefly is sold out of their batteries on their old site? This will no doubt require a fc discount somewhere I'm sure and the corresponding code that will need to go with that. Please advise!! Thx.

Hope it's not too late but I found "fireflyfriend". Worked for me got like $53.00 dollars off.

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about buying a Firefly but I have a small concern. I owned a Crafty, so I would like to know if someone who owns both vaporizers, could tell me if the vapor from Firefly is hotter/ more harsh compared to Crafty?

And can you use the firefly in any position? Or does the unit or the vapor suffer from different positions as it is full convection ( Like holding the the unit side up or upside down)?

PS. If someone could try to use the concentrate pad on top of the herbs and inform if there is enough room for small amount, that would be great. I really liked the concentrate pad on top of the herbs with S&B products, keeps them from moving and you can use really small amounts at a time.

I currently have an Arizer Solo, MFLB, MB2e and a Wickie pipe lighter. All that being said, I'm thinking of getting a Firefly. I like my Solo. The MFLB is great too, but the constant battery changing is annoying - I can barely get a trench out of one battery - but then again, I love the instant heating of it and the flavour. I know I can get a battery replacement adapter, but there goes the portability.

Now that I've been reading about the longer battery life with the Firefly 770 batteries and the improved flavour that is apparently has over the already great Solo. Plus I've heard it has the same head rush of the MFLB? Sounds good to me. I think I'm sold already, I think I just need a little nudging over the edge...

The firefly is an awesome unit bud. Never owned a solo but I do own an arizer air. I bought the firefly when I had to send in my air for a warranty. I got my air back and I still use my firefly. Just a little less. Imo the air has the best value cuz to me it tastes better throughout the bowl and you can't beat the prices and customer service from Randy @PuffItUp.

A few things I like about the firefly over the air.
1. Imo the first few hits taste better on the ff
2. Instant heat. You don't really have to wait on the device to heat up like most vapes.
3. Charge rate. The firefly charges in like 30-45 minutes tops. Love that shit. Air takes about 2 hours but you can have a full hour of constant vaping on a single charge depending on what heat setting
4. Full convection vape and it doesn't cook unless you're hitting it.
5. Easier on my throat. I think the stainless steel body helps dissipate the heat

Things I like about the air over the ff
1. Imo the air tastes better thought the entirety of the bowl.
2. Ease of maintenance and cleaning and use. So Damn easy. (Probably the main reason I use the air more lol. I'm lazy. Haha) for cleaning you just soak the stem in iso and you never have to really clean the unit itself. Preparing the bowl is easy as fuck too, just scoop some into the stem, tamp it down a bit, put the stem in and go. I don't like the loading style of the ff. Minor, but I'm lazy lol. Also the firefly retains a weedy smell even if you clean it with iso.

3. DON'T HAVE TO STIR. I hate having to open the firefly to move around my herb so it burns evenly. The air is good till the end of the bowl.

4. Price. $300+ for the ff vs $<200 via @PuffItUp

I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of at the moment lol. Both wonderful units. I use the firefly mostly at home or when I know I'm going to be in a situation where I don't wanna/dont have time to wait for the air to heat up. Which is only a minute or two anyways. Imo the stirring part kills portability for me. Plus you can't beat the airs stealthiness for less than $200.

Sorry for the slight derail. Hope I helped

I'd say the ff offers slightly better taste, while the crafty is a bit smoother.

You can use it upside-down. Herb may move around more though, unless you pack very tight.

I have a Mighty and been through a zillion FFs. The Mighty has top-notch cool flavor, but nothing I've used touches the FF...coolest, most natural flavor you are likely to experience. It has its pros and cons....but the flavor....that's the Firefly's true wheelhouse.:clap:

Thanks for the great info! Your helpful insights pushed me over the edge and I purchased one this morning.

Your 3rd point about what you like about the Air is a good one, but with my experience with the MFLB and the shaking between draws, it sounds like a minor issue. Do you stir after every hit with the Firefly or every other?

It's a minor issue for most of us. Many like to shake their FF and I personally don't mind the need to stir every four or five hits.

I think the FF and the AA are most definitely apples-to-oranges given the way they work, but that's as far off topic as I'm prepared to drift.

Very minor issue indeed. Just tends to annoying to stir while driving a manual lol..they are apples to oranges but both wonderful units. Only brought it up because he mentioned the solo and I tend to derail shit when smoking hahah. Glad I could help @Greydog

I just ordered one off the manufacturer's website using the code "fireflyfriend" and got $89.99 off the Firefly, a battery, and the external charger.

The battery and external charger were $30 for both ($30 discount on the combo) when purchased with the Firefly; after applying the "fireflyfriend" code my total discount was $89.99. So I don't know if that was $89.99 on the total purchase and it superceded the $30 discount on the battery/charger combo, or if it was still $30 on the battery/charger combo and another $59.99 on just the Firefly.

Regardless - total of $90 off, good deal! Free shipping also. Total came to $240 for all 3 items.

So I saw something about putting an extra screen on top to keep ash/bits from flying up? Is that something useful to do?

Can't remember where I read that, with over 200 pages of postings it's kind of hard to find the actual information, LOL!

Former pipe smoker, new to vaping, I did watch the how-to-use-and-review on youtube by the Vape Critic.

Welcome to fc

That's what I do, I've posted about it as have others. Some like it, some don't.
Give it a try, see what you think:science:

Wow, didn't know about this deal. Thanks for letting us know.

As Grokit said, welcome, and welcome to the FF. Give the "best of Firefly" thread a look for some concentrated advice and technique posts....and let us know how you get on with your FF.

Trying to buy some new batteries, the fireflyfriend code doesn't work, any one have another?
Is it only for the fly, and not accessories?

Regarding too much draw resistance: I have an update and a question.

(I had mentioned before that my replacement's draw was much harder than my original unit.)

One thing I just recently noticed was that the lid gasket was partly blocking the intake slot near the mouth piece. This was when the lid was allowed to sit where it most naturally wanted to settle. Now, when I push the lid backward toward the mouthpiece as far as I can (there's a millimeter or two of free play before the lid is no longer seated adequately) it eases up the draw resistance, not completely, but enough to make a difference. I thought about shaving the gasket with a razor blade, but it's pretty thin at that point (where it overlaps the slot), so, to avoid the risk of ruining it, I just keep pressing the lid backward each time I vape.

The other thing I've resorted to lately is not using a screen. I'm wondering how many others bypass the screen. As I've said before, my replacement FF seemed to collect debris under the screen and around the rim at the bottom of the bowl much more quickly than my first unit -- and that makes draw resistance much harder. So before using it each time I spend a bit longer than usual cleaning the bowl and clearing the bottom rim with a black toothpick. It was simply getting too annoying having to clean under the screen every time (and each time you take out the screen, the harder it is to get to fit back correctly).

Anyone found any drawbacks to bypassing the screen?

Got my replacement silver FF yesterday....longer delay than usual for FF. Not my best customer service experience, but once I escalated I got some immediate help and a new FF shipped immediately. Worth noting: the old 550 battery was included. Guess they are still burning through old stock. Good thing I sent back a 550 with my dead FF. :p

This is weird. Of all the FF's I've had, none of them had any play in the lid. When it's seated correctly, it won't move, back or forward or side to side. The fit of your lid may be your actual issue. (Maybe call FF and ask for a new lid? It might fix the gasket and draw issues simultaneously.)

The other thing I've resorted to lately is not using a screen. I'm wondering how many others bypass the screen. Personally...since you asked.......I think this is a bad idea. No screen means the holes on the plate are entirely uncovered. This will amplify the amount of debris that could potentially fall into the heating coil (only the finest of powders will do this, but it's not impossible). The screen serves a purpose, and though it's not 100%, it stops a lot of debris from hitting the plate and the gasket. Some is better than none.

Just got two new 770mah batts. They wouldn't comp me anything, even though the old ones were only six
months old, and not used heavily, one battery probably lasted ten charges tops.
Here's hoping the new ones last longer. This could get expensive fast.

Thanks Mitch for your response. Glad you got your replacement. FF is probably rethinking their warranty based on your returns alone!

I didn't mean to suggest there was any noticeable free play with my lid. It's snug, and the magnet is actually quite a bit stronger than my first unit. But if I push pretty hard, trying to slide the lid backward, I can force it to stay about a millimeter farther back than it naturally sits. This seems to make a real difference, which is why I theorize that the gasket is overlapping the air slot just enough to restrict the draw. I guess it's possible I've merely weakened the seal, but it still seems snug.

You might be right about future problems with the coil if I don't use a screen, but I'd been getting so much junk under the screen anyway (since the screens fit so badly) that I didn't see that it mattered much. I use quality herb -- pretty dry though, as moist doesn't vape as well -- so I don't think that's the issue. But midway thru each vaping session (after 3 or 4 draws) the resistance often builds up so much that I have to not only stir, but clear out the bottom rim with a pick while I stir. That's a real pain when you have to take out the screen each time!

I returned my first replacement because of similar behavior, so I don't think it's just this unit (my very first unit had no such problems, but, again, its magnet was weaker). Maybe I'm just less tolerant of resistance than other users. But I wonder if anyone has found off-brand screens that fit better?

The tale of two Fireflies........I just bought myself a second Firefly as I dropped my first one and cracked the bowl, I then further stuffed up by plugging in the wrong charger and blew something internal so I couldn't charge it anymore, it still works BTW even with a chipped bowl and a blown fuse, anyway I purchased a unit fairly cheap off eBay Australia and although they told me it was black it's actually a grey unit which is the same as the one I already own, BUT on close inspection quite a few things are different so I can only assume I have just purchased an original first edition model that was sitting in storage for quite some time as the guy said he purchased a container that had 7 vaporizers in it amongst other things, likely confiscated from customs or something like that IMO.

ViaSSOw.jpg

Notice the packaging is different, registered trademark missing on the new one on the right and symbol missing, also note no glow from inside, also colour is black on box.

gKxoQd6.jpg

Note extra writing on box on right and the sleeves are different with my old one having finger grooves.

ScWWsnw.jpg

My original FF came with a handy hints card unlike my new one, even the foam is slightly different shaped, my original model had 4 spare screens the new one only has two

sVHKBo7.jpg

My original FF has the finger groove to open the magnetic lid here.

D18dQET.jpg

New one has the groove over the button instead, also the lid on this one has some play in it near the mouth piece which my other FF doesn't have.

w1IdiRG.jpg

New one has a raised button which feels much better than my old one which was not at all raised as much

SUB7Yri.jpg

My old FF has very shallow button

VqSPGB5.jpg

I didn't get very good photos of the mouth piece but they are also different with the new one I got letting in much less air/vape than my old one which means they perform different, one is wider than the other slightly and the inside area is smaller, also the bowl on my new purchase is slightly in crooked compared to my old unit, I may fix this if I can when I open it up to look inside and or change a screen.

AdEgZrD.jpg

If you look closely my new one on the right has a much smaller hole letting the air/vape through, it almost looks as though its blocked but it does work OK IMO, just a lot more resistance when your toking on it than my original FF, and not only is the hole smaller but the 12 channels on the lid are shallower, again letting less air/vape through.

QliuUyO.jpg

Even the metal ring encompassing the glass is different, my old one on the left has a bevelled edge and the new one is rounded, ............as you can see on the left my poor original FF has had a hard life!

rMbC4mI.jpg

My original FF came with a FF adapter, the new one came with a generic Chinese one, also they are different power figures, not sure if that means one charges faster than the other, probably does though.

So there you have it, two identical coloured FF's that are "same same but different", also the new one I bought makes a distinct ping noise when the button is pressed down that my old one doesn't make, sounds like the metal heating element to me if I had to bet on it, and again if I had to bet on it I would think the FF I just bought is a quite old first edition original model, I also wish I had some scales as I swear the one I just bought feels a gram or two lighter but I may be wrong on that, also both came with the 750 batteries so no clues there as to which is the earlier model.

There is no "quite old first edition original model". The current version is the original and only model (and the first units were sold 19 months ago, so it's not really old). A couple minor tweaks like bowl bevel width were made to more recent units but nothing like the bizarre quirks present on your eBay purchase. There is only one iteration of the FF, so far.

If I had to bet I'd say it's a counterfeit, especially since it was purchased on eBay....but only the FF folks can tell us for sure. It's pretty not quite right, whatever the hell it is.

I love my firefly and the only thing that would make firefly 2 better I longer battery life and instead of vape surfing with the button there should be an automatic heat turn on as soon as you turn it on so that way there's no button learning curve just turn on and start inhaling but if u don't start inhaling it still doesn't cook your erbs that would be perfect or maybe different temperatures automatically with a button or dial maybe just something that would make it easier for certain people who don't know how to really use their ff
