...so my ff finally combusted, no idea why or how. Also now just one side of the bowl gets dark while the other stays almost yellow

I just got a firefly vape and the strange thing I've noticed is that when the unit is fully charged, turned off and unplugged the led light is constantly blinking. It's faint and kind of hard to see but it's definitely blinking (pretty quickly too). Has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering if this blinking could also be why my battery dies so quickly.

That is really weird. Never saw that on any of my FFs. Checked my current two, and no sign of that behavior. Did you try removing and re-inserting the battery?

So I just got another replacement battery after my previous one had degraded in my defective FF (always quick and simple service from CS). Anyway did they change the batteries slightly?

My new one is a tiny bit different, like the plastic is a tad thicker, a tighter fit in the slot. It also has the logos and font sizes different, different start to serial number, and different mAh and Wh even (new one on the bottom):

Seems to be working fine so far, anyone else experience something like this? Haven't asked Firefly CS about it yet, but will if no else has...

EDIT: a quick glance above shows I'm not alone, as I suspected. This thread just gets so long lol

Yep, new batteries, 770 instead of 750. I'm still in preliminary testing with mine, but they seem to last almost twice as long as the old ones. That's just my first round with each of my new ones...I reserve the right to change that after more comparison testing.

So I let the lid iso soak for a few hours and cleaned my bowl several times and used 2 full charges of burn offs after my combustion incident and again after seeing my bowls unevenly cooked. Now for some reason my ff is working amazing again. Has anyone else had such weird things happen?

Careful on the lid soak. There is a gasket on the outside porthole that can be degraded by iso
Go gentle with iso dampened cloth.

The gasket adhesive can also be an issue when using iso.

A question on battery usage, should I let the battery fully discharge before recharge or can I keep it charging. The reason I ask is that I can get a full nights entertainment from one bowl (I know....lightweight). So on the following night I tend to recharge before fun time. Will this cycle of charging a half used battery be detrimental to my battery's life?. Apologies if this has been answered before.

It is best to always charge battery before it completely dies because if u always wait for it to die every single time u vape that tends to degrade the battery the more u let it die then recharge it's best to recharge before it dies so let's say after u finished one bowl while your emptying it out and refilling your charger should be in while u do it that way u get alot out of your battery.

I have the 750 mah battery but I get 3 to 5 bowls depending how long I stay on each bowl extracting but once it turns blackish brownish more less once the popcorn taste comes I empty then refill again but yea 5 bowls the max. Don't let your battery completely die then recharge u wanna always recharge before u get the red light.

They need to make us 1000 mah battery's because we are paying 30 dollars for one battery either give us more mah or drop the price of battery's to let's say 20 or 15 bucks

I used to get about 4 bowls and now I don't trust it past two because it always dies during the third one so I am being pretty good about charging her up. Sometimes I can flip the switch a from on to off and back and trick it into doing another bowl.

I'll probably just contact them tomorrow and send it in and buy an extra battery while I'm at it.

This was during normal operation, and most of the hits were long, with the button held for at least 20 seconds. (I plan to do a more controlled test and just see how many full 30 seconds hits I get on a cycle, but it's more fun to test with real usage first. )

This is close to 2x what I was getting from the old 750s, but I still wanna confirm that before I draw a final conclusion. Preliminarily, though, the new batteries seem much much better.

Even when it was brand new I don't think I got over 20 medium-long presses of the button out of one charge. Not sure I've charged it more than 100 or so times. I'd be happy with a ~33% increase in battery though, can't wait to check them out. Maybe the firefly will leave my home more often.

I have the 770. I have gotten 3 bowls out of it, a time or two, before it needed charging. I usually charge it after 1 or 2 bowls, just to be sure it won't die when needed. I have the 750 and I get 5 bowls. I realised that let's say you fully charge your FF but you don't use it and u put it away let's say till the next day your battery will basically drain itself without using it so as a warning and heads up to those of u that font know now u know, I took my FF out of my drawer it was wrapped around 5 shirts to keep I warm and I was just about to turn it on and vape when I said lemme throw it on the charger first even though I just gully charged it last night but I didn't use it afterwards and boom it is now going on 25 minutes and yes she is still charging so if u fully charge then u don't use for couple hours it will eventually start draining it's own battery so recharge it if u haven't used it for a couple hours or a day make sure u throw it on charge first cause u won't even get past your inhalation of your first bowl. And no I don't have a faulty one I just got my FF brand new silver December 12 2014. Have any of you top-screeners out there tried this method?

Since I started using iolite replacements for the bottom screen I had stopped using a top screen.
But the idea hit me when my replacement FF showed up today (btw, Firefly has amazingly good warranty service!)

A little background:
I liked using the iolite 7 hole screens as a bottom screen replacement. They slightly reduce the bowl volume, which is great for me. It evened out the heat distribution which gave me a more even toasting on the buds, less chance of scorching on long pulls.

The only problem - I still had a bit of green in there when finished.
now this should be pretty easy to solve, right? just break up the buds a bit and finish it off. Problem is, I like my unit REALLY clean. Breaking up the buds just made a huge mess of the top glass and the lid's vapor path.

So here's what I'm experimenting with now:

- Start a new bowl wit the iolite below the herb, but ON TOP of the normal FF bottom screen
- Only using torn herb, no grinding, to reduce mess. usually .05 to .08g
- 3 flavor hits and stir
- 3 more hits, then dump the bowl.
- now break up the herb a bit, still with lots of green and light tan color. toss any super dark pieces
- reload the broken up nuggets directly onto the FF screen, put the iolite screen on top, upside down
- 3-4 more great hits that still taste pretty dang good, and call it done.

The top weight of the iolite screen presses down a bit, which I think helps the extraction.
Seems to me the FF extracts best when the bowl is packed, but then its stronger than I need and still chars. This method lets me keep my bowls light, but still fully extracts.

BONUS: since the iolite is both slightly heavy AND fairly thick (about 1/8 inch), the top lid stays much cleaner than when using a domed FF screen as the top screen.

I finally had some time to do some comparative testing with the new 770 batteries vs. the old 750 batteries. The 750's I used were the second batch that started shipping sometime last fall, not the original first-gen batteries, which were much better than the recent 750s.

Well, it's pretty short...the new 770s netted, consistently, twice as much charge in normal use than the older 750s. The new 770s delivered between 26 and 29 hits each. The old 750s delivered between 10 and 14 hits.

Most of the hits were long, 20 seconds-plus. (I would still like to do more consistent testing, but I keep getting sidetracked by real-world usage.) All of the batteries were stored at the same temp, around 62. The older batteries had been used for a few dozen cycles, and the new ones were, well, new, so there's some chance that age/use made the comparison slightly skewed. Also, the one time I only pulled 10 hits from the 750 it had been charged 48 hours previously, so I presume some drainage occurred.

But, overall, I'm comfortable concluding the new batteries deliver about 2X the charge of the second-gen 750s. This actually makes the FF more portable...doubling the hits largely takes the short battery life off the table for me. I felt like I got an appropriate amount of charging power from the new 770s. Big thumbs up from me, FF.
