Couple of questions, do you need to pull out and replace the mesh at the bottom of the chamber occasionally or do you add a spare one that comes with the Firefly on top of the existing one?
I have also been shaking the Firefly between hits, I haven't stirred as yet, but is there a risk you will get small amounts of product inside the Firefly mechanics when shaking? I notice I already have small amounts under the mesh already.
Thanks
Welcome to FC and the FF! Yes, as others have mentioned, the screen needs to be removed every so often to blow out any debris that gets under it. I used to do it every time I did an iso cleaning, about once every three bowls. But as NF states below, the more you remove the screen, the more frayed the edges get and the screen's performance in keeping out debris goes downhill fast. Some users (like me) have instead been using these Iolite Wispr 7 hole screen discs. They fit perfectly, work great, keep out debris, and can be removed easily without the hassle of the stock screens. You just remove the original screen and pop this in. They seem to last forever, if you don't lose them. (Some people do not love them and feel they affect performance, but I've never noticed anything and I've used them on several FFs...)

A few specs will sure find their way under the screen and even fewer will go under the SS plate and around the heater… Very easy cleaning though, just 6 torx screws and you are under there! I only clean my FF this way now cause removing the screen with a toothpick trails the edges and soon they need replacing. My last screen has lasted more than 6 months doing it like this...
Personally I'd advise against opening the unit for cleaning, for the following reasons...
1. It's not necessary...the gasket under the bowl stops almost all debris from getting into the unit, unless there's a flaw in the O-ring. The one time I opened one up that had been in heavy use there was literally no debris whatsoever in it.
2. You will likely be unable to re-assemble the ceramic rings in the exact alignment they are in right now...the rings are only held in place by the pressure of the top plate. Take it off and the rings kinda lift up and
immediately move relative to one another...you won't even know exactly where they were, so you'll never replace them correctly. Their alignment and the exact position of the heating coil determine the temp profile of the hot air you pull into the bowl,
and they have very little tolerance, so you have a high probability of screwing up your FF operation just by taking off the plate...which leads to....
3.
You will void the warranty by doing this. The warranty explicitly excludes any damage done by "self repair" which includes opening the unit. The FF folks are awesome and they might very well still honor your warranty if you opened it up and screwed it up in the process, but I personally don't think it's worth the risk.
The unit won't get dirty enough inside to worry about, and if anything goes wrong you can send it back to them and their service is fast and amazing...so for me there's no good reason to open it up. (For sure Natural Farmer is a way braver and resourceful user than I am, so this is just my
...some of us are more inclined to screw stuff up, and that's me.)
For some idea of what goes on inside the FF, here's the original tear-down pix posted months ago. Worth a look. (Good luck and welcome again!
