A psych thing is pretty much in ones head then it is bad information. It is not good promoting counterproductive wasteful information just to make some feel good. That's religions job.

The pre-heat myth has caused many, many, users to be under the false impression that the Firefly has bad battery life.

The battery life is poor irrespective of pre-heating. To only get 20 full cycles from a battery, whether you are drawing or not, is poor battery life. Pre-heating may make it worse, but it didn't create or distort the impression of battery life, especially for those of us who've had many batteries and many FF devices.

I've had my FF for about 6mo. She is now my "Daily Driver" on the coffee table. I love the water filtered vapor and the efficiency/volume factor the addition of my bong adds(I know its old, don't make fun of me I've had it for 20+years!). W/o water bong, a .5g load (yea I load her up) will get 10-15 good hits and a few wispy ones. When I add the water bong to the equation .5g gives me 5 solid RIPS and she's done...as am I lol
p.s. No pre-heating here, I don't even pay attention to the green light. I inhale when I see the orange glow of the heating element and continue for a couple seconds after it turns off.

Mod note: Fixed. You copied the wrong code from imgur. Please read How to post pictures and ask if you still have questions.

How did you manage to get .5g in there? I overstuffed mine, and then put a second screen because the lotus's are a bit big, and then combusted and gunked up my entire bubbler. Can't believe people do that on purpose

I think that pic speaks for itself…

I'd like to do that sometime! When I can get some herbs to vape again… Oh my, I miss my herbs… :ugh:

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about the overstuffing. but rather that was my first experience with combustion in a few years, and holy shit did that stink. I guess you'd be able to fit a bunch in if you really press it down

I wonder about combustion as well if overpacked… Never did that…

Not just that, but it seems that all the heat is concentrated in a small spot in the middle of the bowl, rather than spread out. that along with the overstuffing and additional screen probably did me in. I think that an adapter that draws through the mouthpiece would at least slightly counter that issue

Yes, the FF is just fine the way it is (but no, the battery life isn't great). As to water tooling, the glass adapters are fragile, and costly. The vapor is tasty and cool enough without it, but I found those 5 piece Titanium rubik's cube nails make a good interface to a water tool. I haven't found anything wrong with the $20 e-bay Ti nails. The part shown fits into the bowl, there are many ways to mate the other end. Yes, it has to be held in place, and no, you don't want to crack the FF bowl.

A little screen to hold herb, or a wad of stainless steel in there to hold a dab, and it works well with both. Goes to show anything's possible ;-)

fits in just fine, I kind of pour the material out of my grinder(medium to fine grind, SC Shredder) into the bowl as I push any excess towards the middle until it looks like it does in the pic...no packing, I carefully put the lid on as to not disturb the mound. The first rip is always the most tasty and the bud seems to lose a good bit of mass/moisture after the second rip and requires shaking/stirring. 5th bong rip and the .5g of green looks like .35g of light brown coffee grounds now. Without the bong I'll pack much less, sometimes it'll rotate around while I inhale like that. I get huge clouds with the whip/bong attachment though. I had combustion 1 time but the thing was so dirty I could scrape several dabs off the vapor path lol! Now I take her apart and ISO her every few days now like a M16 in the swamp!

I love the Firefly, so well built and the battery life is fine for my meager needs. There is one characteristic I get tired of: THE NEED TO STIR. I guess I could skip stirring but it works so much better when you do. Stirring the load in the Firefly feels a bit like work to me.

Maybe someone would be able to replace the glass window in the lid with an interior stirring stick of some sort. although you'd lose that neat glow coming out the top

That is a brilliant idea. Maybe it could be made of glass so you could keep the glow.

might be interesting getting it to seal well if it's made out of glass. regardless of the material it would be great to see an alternative to opening the lid and making a mess every time

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
Hi everyone. My first post. I have gotten through the first 40 pages of this thread. It's slow going but interesting. Just got my dark gray FF on Wednesday and I love it. It got here in 2 days, so cool.

I did have a few concerns that I wanted to find out about. The main one is the resistance in the draw. I am new to the vape world. I have only had some brief experience on my other vape which is a Vapor Bros desktop.

On the FF I am surprised at the amount of resistance when drawing. It is much like drawing on the straw of a thick mcdonalds shake. I understand that you don't want to draw very hard and I'm learning to find that steady but casual draw speed. However, even when the ports are clear of leaf and the screen is clean, there is more effort needed than I find with the VB vape. Is this normal? I don't see where the unit would cause a "clog" preventing air from passing through.
Thanks for any help

There is some resistance to the FF, more than you find with a whip-style vape. But it's not excessive, it certainly isn't as bad as a thick milkshake draw like the Solo, and the most recent FFs seem to have a slightly improved draw, at least my new Red does.

Make sure nothing is blocking any of the six front vents, including your fingers when you hold it. You should definitely feel some resistance even when the bowl is empty, but it shouldn't feel super difficult to draw.

Just curious, have any of you long time Firefly users tried the Haze?

How does the Haze compare with Firefly in terms of taste and vapor quality? Any other thoughts on how the two compare?

Thanks Mitch, I've really appreciated your posts on this thread.
Perhaps a thick shake is overstating, but it is def more than sipping soda from a straw, probably somewhere in between. Still more than I thought.

I am experimenting with the grind too. I do see that the usual grind from my spacecase is too much and leads to clogging and sticking to the glass and ports. I also tried the whole little bud idea. Didn't like that, the bud developed a burn mark on the bottom and the draw seemed even harder. Right now I had the best success by putting a bud in the grinder, giving it 1 to 2 turns and pulling it out the top before it grinds fine enough to fall through the holes. Probably similar to just hand picking apart.

The funny thing with such posts is you can follow best advice only to find out that the advice changed in next 10 pages of the thread.

The battery does just fine for me. I'm a one bowl man, maybe two in a night.

It is also portable enough for me since it won't leave home. In my situation, I can only vape outside or in the garage. The VB was a pain to run an extension cord. The FF does great and I can walk around the house or sit on the porch at night.

It is so cool looking. Reminds me of the casket they launched Spock into space with, in that Star Trek movie.

The Haze appears to be a conduction vape while the Firefly is a convection vape. I like both style of vapes however I find convection vapes are usually more efficient. Flavor is a subjective thing and all vapes have a signature or personality. For an idea on the Firefly's flavor and signature all you need to do is read a little on this thread. Flavor and vapor quality is what the Firefly is known for.

I've been following the Haze thread a while, and it seems they have a screen option which makes the Haze act as convection instead of conduction. I'm sure the convection is probably still not as effective as FF's.

That said I do find it interesting... Herb plus concentrate plus huge battery life, DUAL BOWLS which are selected and heated separately. People are saying it beats pax in a lot of ways.

I have to admit, I'm interested partially because of FF's limited airflow.

But since I'm used to the flavor of the firefly, hoping we see a Firefly/Haze comparison. who cares how it compares to Pax? haha

Yes a whole bud will char on one side, though sometimes if it's quite moist I'll put in a big chunk, hit it twice, and then it's a lot drier, and I can break it up before it gets charred in one place. Of course then we have the "open and stir" thing to do, which is definitely helpful with the FF, if a bit tedious. (Opening the lid must cause more odor than I notice, because when I do it my wife yells from a room away "I smell skunk...oh, you just have that lid open, don't you?")

Hah! So true. Everyone's been kind of working through their approach in front of everyone else...I do feel bad if people read the earlier parts of the thread where it seems like some of us come to conflicting conclusions almost hourly. FC is like therapy...we eventually get to the right place and work out our problems, but there's often much gnashing of teeth along the way.

Glad you are enjoying the FF and hopefully your draw issues are just part of adjusting to the device. Again I did notice the newer unit I have has a slightly easier draw (enough that I thought I was still having seal problems with it at first). Another thing to check is make sure no debris is blocking any part of the mouthpiece area...that little channel can get blocked pretty easily by the smallest particles. Stick a pick, carefully, in both the front part where you draw and the top slot that's exposed when the lid is off...and make sure it's all clear in there. Good luck!

I've been using my FF a lot over the past couple weeks, and I'm really enjoying it. I sacrifice whatever additional efficiency is gained from grinding by using whole nugs only. I simply turn the nug over every so often to promote even roasting. This cuts down on the mess factor significantly and makes the unit much more of a joy to use. Simply wipe the unit down with ISO sprayed on a micro fiber cloth once a week and you'll be good to go.

The heat-on-demand design works best for me given my current usage patterns. I take a few hits, wait a while, then take a few more. One bowl will usually last me a few hours. I only vape at night, so no issues with the short battery life here.

I really appreciate the design of this thing. So elegant looking, the magnetic lid is awesome, totally self contained and small enough for my portability needs. I love the glow when it's heating. Best of all, the vapor output is extremely clean tasting and quite smooth considering the length of the vapor path.

Overall, I think I made the right choice when I bought this thing. I believe it is the best portable currently available to meet my specific needs.

Pay no mind to those voices in my head
I do believe that my silver FF has cured my VAS. Not that I had a bad case to begin with, I've only been vaping for 1 year. My first was the NO2, then MLFB. Since acquiring my FF last April, it's the one I use most often. I like how easy it is to load (and reload) and how little maintenance it requires. Also, until using this beautiful device, I thought all the talk about FLAVOR was just talk.
I guess I'm not completely cured as it turns out, I find myself thinking about buying a 2nd FF.

Yep, flavor is what it's all about. Hit the FF right after using pretty much any other portable vape....the coolness and richness of the vapor is striking.

Enough is Enough. Please help this Grandfather out. I have had my Firefly for about 6 months. I have read all the posts and am using the device correctly. Medication occurs every session. But...I have never expelled any vapor. Ever.
What gives? BTW: I have a WISPR as well and never expel any vapor with this as well.
Thanks all.

Is it possible the quality of cannabis isn't super high? When I use lower quality buds I get like HALF the visible vapor.

If its not that then I'd have to say breathing rate/technique most likely.

The problem isn't the FF, since you say the Wispr behaves identically. As @darkrom said, it's either your technique or your material.

How are the effects? What colour is your ABV?

After using my Firefly for 3 months and being very satisfied with it, I bought a second FF, because I currently prefer to alternate sessions between high THC and high CBD cannabis, which I can now do much easier by having a FF dedicated to each. And it's more convenient to wait and then clean both FFs at the same time.

I haven't yet had to replace a screen (still using the original one), though I take it out and blow/brush it off when cleaning FFs. Since the vapor doesn't pass through the screen, screens last a really long time.
