.... at this point I have found the FF wiil combust if I hold the button down, release and then hold it down again too soon. Not a major combustion of the whole bowl, but small pieces will ignite. I can't really taste the burnt flavor much, but the evidence is in the remains. I can also detect small burnt spots under the screen. This has happened 3 or 4 times out of a dozen sessions or so.

Yep. This is why the manufacture cautions against doing this. Releasing and re-pressing mid-hit causes the heat cycle to re-start. The FF throws the most heat during the first few seconds of a heat button press. This can cause material to cook more quickly, and hotter, than intended. If you want a hotter hit, just hold longer. Once you release mid-hit, don't even THINK about pressing the button again. Finish the draw, wait fifteen seconds, and take another hit.

With practice you can cook out all but the last hit or so in the FF. I get very very dark material that is 98% spent. And when used correctly, no matter how long I hold down the heat button, I haven't achieved combustion. There is a subtle, intuitive learning curve you have to climb. Takes a few days...but once you are at the top of the curve, it's like standing on the summit of Vape Everest.

You guys may want to check how tight your screws are & tighten them up if necessary.
They are Torx T6 size.
2 of mine (the top two above the bowl) were able to be removed by simply pressing my thumb on them and twisting.

Anyway, I have seen great reviews for this new Firefly, but reading the thread it seems that this one is doing combustion, like the AtmosRaw. Shouldn't it be a disqualifying element (like it happens to be for the AtmosRaw in reviews)?

Lots of highly regarded vapourizers can reach combustion, so that's not a disqualification. The reports of combustion in the FF are either unit failures or deliberate, and there have been only two or three. Most owners have not had combustion and the FF is designed not to reach those temperatures. In contrast, by design every Atmos Raw can and will reach combustion unless you take great care. Hardly the same thing.

Thanks for all the reviews. I'm trying to decide btwn the firefly and the pax. I'll use this mainly at home to take a quick hit or 2 in the evening with the wife or a friend maybe a couple of times per week. Unlikely to carry this out and about often but may on occasion and really don't want a desktop unit that has the risk of being seen by the kids or guests that might not appreciate my "hobby". I need the ability to get high quality vapor and use a very small amount of material each time. Im a one-hit-wonder with traditional pipes. I'm concerned that the pax requires too much material to work well and that it requires more cleaning that i'm willing to do. The firefly seems to be willing to work with less material and might have less maintenance required? Also doesn't look like a science experiment which is a big plus in my book (ie the solo). Can anyone yet get a sense of how often the screen needs to be changed? How gummy does this unit get? Also any further info on battery life is appreciated. Thanks all!

I can only speak for myself, but the combustion i experienced with my first unit appears to have been a malfunction of that specific FF. I've used my second one for a week, and no matter how hot I get the unit, or how dark I toast material, I haven't seen any combustion. (And given the stellar service FF seems to award its customers, if you *do* have a problem, rest assured they'll fix it fast. They seem obsessed with ensuring their early adopters have a great experience.)

1. Screen stays pretty clean, if you brush out the dregs of your material. I can't envision having to change it anytime soon.
2. As noted, battery life isn't stellar. But I can get 25 LONG draws off one battery charge. If you are hitting it solo for small sessions, you'll be fine.
3. Works fine with small amounts around .1 grams.
4. It can get somewhat messy at the tail end of a session when material becomes more fine, but with practice you can keep it cleaner. SUPER easy to clean. Two surfaces that can be wiped with iso. That's it. The entire vapor path is exposed when you open the lid.

I have a Plenty for my bands rehearsal space, a PAX for my car, and an aging Vapir No2 at home.

I need stealth at home - so no smell! from the vape between hits where possible as I'm in a locked home office with windows.

- The Plenty is overkill at home. (such an awesome vape!)
- I couldn't use my PAX as it reaks/leaks vape out the bottom each hit. Not a lot, but it smells.
- My No2 is pretty smell-less, but is getting to be a pain to load and store each use. Thinking about a FF to replace the No2 for home use only.

How much does the FF smell (or not) between hits?

I had a MFLB and liked that I could go "hit by hit" instead of having to vape everything in one session like the Plenty/PAX or No2. Also like the small amounts the No2 uses - the lil plastic scoop is .1-.2g

Am also tracking the Ascent (too many goofy problems), Solo (science project - and smells more than a PAX - I been told), and my No2 still works - its just a pain and not quick to use or hide away.

The heat is only applied when you press the button, so there is going to be much less "smelliness" than a conduction vape that is always cooking the load. Everything is sealed up pretty tight, so apart from the size this unit is very stealthy. Especially since you can load such small amounts.

The firefly stops heating as soon as you let go of the button. So no smell between hits.

As others just mentioned, no smell. On-demand convection, and an *ingenious* seal...the magnetic lid has some kind of material in it that creates a full, tight seal when you snap it closed. Part of the elegant, simple design. You can't smell a thing, and since it only heats when you press the button, you'll never lose any vapor to constant heat.

Totally agree! Off topic, and I've never used a Pax, but the Solo doesn't throw any real smell, even while it's theoretically "cooking" between hits. At least from my experience.

RE: Science Project - My friends been thru a few Solos, top pieces, etc... he's always "messin'" with it. (could be he's a psycho)

Back on topic, I believe the Firefly will provide you what you need & address all your concerns. It is remarkably efficient, max load is about .1g & the unit has a great seal/you heat 'on-demand' so smell shouldn't be an issue.
