I'm curious about the issues with the IQ getting too hot.

Is it only certain units? Is this related to a defect? Is it that different people have different heat tolerances? Or maybe a combination?

I've read somewhere that later model IQ's have less heat shielding than the originals that were released?

For myself personally I haven't noticed my IQ getting too hot at all, I use the stock battery and Sanyo's (which I believe are the same as the stock battery)

I've literally done 5-6 back to back 10 minute sessions at 430F to burnoff my IQ after cleaning and I never felt it was too hot until maybe the end of my 6th straight session.

In my normal use the IQ is warm but never too hot, so I'm curious about the different causes and symptoms of heat that people are seeing.

I believe that piece of information was floating around on reddit. I regret to inform you that the person who said that has no idea what they are talking about. The IQ has the same amount of heat shielding and insulation now as it did when the IQ first released. Honestly most of the hub bub over the heat of the IQ has been people with different heat tolerances to warm metallic objects. You'll notice that some users have had a couple of units now either through multiple purchases or RMA and they have the same experience with all the units. I would say its 95% all just personal tolerances to heat.

And to wait for the RMA Process from Davinci and get in processed and returned who know's the timeframe.

If you are in the states 2 weeks at max almost always less than that.

The only reason i didn't want to go that route is because my only other to vapes are a budda & a focus. I live in a non-420 house so I need to watch the smoke The buddha is ok and I had the focus. The pods suck. And to wait for the RMA Process from Davinci and get in processed and returned who know's the timeframe.
RMA took less than 2 weeks for me and that included delivery time. Could be even faster now being that there seems to be fewer faulty units and there are suppose to be more DaVinci staff hired.

I think so too. My hands are naturally cold, so I like having a vape that doubles as a hand warmer, lol.

I can see how someone with sensitive hands might find it uncomfortable, but certainly nothing that could harm the skin.

I had a chance to use an IQ recently and I was curious to see how hot the unit got after reading some reports of units too hot to hold. We did back to back to back bowls on the highest smartpath and at no time did I feel that the vape was even remotely uncomfortable to hold. Was it hot? Yes. Was it too hot to hold for me? Not even close. Maybe different people really do have wildly varying sensitivity to heat (something that I didn't really believe before).

I am currently on my third IQ in less then three weeks. The first two came from the head shop where I purchased. He exchanged the first time. The next time I went with the RMA. It only took Davinci one week to get me a new IQ. I was satisfied with a week. Granted, it sucked waiting a week for it! But now this unit appears to work perfectly. If you only have to wait a week, I don't think that's bad!! Good luck!

I have posted information about some batteries and a charger I have been very happy with in the past. I know when people first visit this forum they don't feel like skimming through 85 pages, so here are the links again. The batteries are 3500mAh @ 10Amp - you get 4 of them for $37.95 and they come with 2 very handy plastic carrying cases and the charger is $38.99:

https://www.amazon.com/Foxnovo-4-Slots-Battery-Charger-Li-ion/dp/B00OCCNBOE

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CHQ75AW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The charger has a nice LED display for each cell and it will stop charging when a cell reaches full. It also has a capacity function which allows u to determine how many mAh each battery has.

Somewhere WAY back in this thread a member mentioned that they pulled the battery out of the IQ after using it at high temp for a few sessions and how it felt slightly warm, but not hot. I have been doing this regularly and concur - although the IQ itself gets quite warm, the battery is never in danger of over-heating IMO.

I have owned my IQ since late January and have dealt with CS a number of times (not all of them for "issues" - some just questions) and in the beginning I was very nervous about the unresponsiveness. However, I must admit since @Davinci_vaporizer posted about the CS improvements they have made there has been a night/day difference. Not only is it rare to not be able to get somebody to answer the phone anymore, but the last 2 orders I made shipped out within 2 days of the order and arrived in Michigan 2 days after that. Very satisfactory!

I'm also happy to say that my original unit has performed flawlessly since receiving it. It has never been RMA'd, never gotten "too hot", never shut off unexpectedly, always produced amazing vapor, and now that I have the glass spacers it has transformed into an ultra-versatile unit. One that can be packed with a full oven to enjoy on Smart Path 2 for 10 min and then stir and add spacer to finish the rest later. One that can burn a 1/2 packed oven with a spacer in a 2-5 min session. One that can be used to burn a full oven at Smart Path 4 for 10 min if I really wanna forget what the hell I was just doing before the session!

I have settled on the stock cleaning brush with an ISO wipe wrapped around it immediately after a session keeps the oven very clean (I always blow through the IQ while it's still warm to push alot of residue back into oven to be wiped up by ISO pad). I also carry a small paper clip for inserting and retrieving the glass spacers (it fits through the holes in the spacer). I also carry a nail with a nice big head on it to pack my ovens and also to wrap a dry terry-cloth rag around to dry the oven after it's ISO cleaning (again employing the blow-through method to push any ISO left inside).

I love this little unit so much! Kudos BIGLY to DaVinci for stepping up and showing us customers they are serious about their commitment to us. The 10 year warranty was one of the top reasons that I chose the IQ and when I experienced the early CS efforts, I was very nervous. But now, I'm confident I chose the right device - I need some more DaVinci stickers to put on my guitar case, my golf bag, my laptop, my phone - I a proud marketer nowadays!

Peese!

Good to know on the turn around time with Davinci. Hell I was doing a weeks worth of just damn emails with the 3rd party. Was looking at some old posts looks like I'm not the only one that's had problems with this vendor and getting RMA's.

The Samsung 3000 mah 15 amp 30qs i purchased will work fine with the external charger davinci offers that can charge 2 at once correct? Not to mention isnt that a battery Davinci has recommended besides there own.

I think it's really hard to tell with a device so small were the heat is exactly coming from. The only way to fully test something like this would be to hitch up the battery externally to the unit. There is way to much heat emanating from the oven to determine if the battery heat is actually from the battery or from the unit itself.
I don't have my unit right now, but I wonder if you can put a battery in the charger, and then connect the USB to the IQ and run the IQ, and if it runs how hot does the battery get? Or it will probably just run off of the USB.

I dunno MicroMan, I think the fact that when u pull the battery out when the IQ is still at it's hottest and can hold both in your hand at the same time - the fact that the battery is MUCH cooler than the IQ is pretty good evidence that the heat is not from the battery. IMO of course.

Exactly what I'm saying. When users are talking about batteries and heat problems. What are they exactly talking about? The batteries getting hot from the oven of the IQ? Or the IQ needing the amount of power for the oven that it gets the battery extra hot?

was SHOCKED to see 2 IQs sitting in my neighborhood head shop. Funny because I wanted one sooo bad and couldnt get my hands on one. I had previously bought my volcano digit from this guy and my family owned the building he leases for his shop so he gives me great deals. He offered me an IQ at his cost because I was going on and on about how much I wanted one before. It was seriously cheap - well under $300 CAD.

Man I really wanted to accept his offer but all of these horror stories. My heart wanted to but my head made me go with another vape. It was real tough but I just cant risk cracked ovens, over heating, and balls that break off....maybe another gen Ill get on board but not anytime soon.

I think every battery vaporizer has horror stories, especially the best ones (Storz & Bickel). I may complain on here about it getting a little too hot at the end of a session or this and that but that's just because I want perfection when in reality even with it's quirks it's still an amazing vaporizer. Even the VapeCritic said it was his favorite all-arounder portable vape because it does everything from dense vapor to discreetness to removable batteries. So yea we might seem to be picky on this forum because it's an expensive device (so we should be) but the reality is I love this thing.

Got my replacement RMA today. Weird 1st time startup w/app issue. Did a smart path 3 right when I got it just couldn't wait. Went to go look at the app for the first time when entering the name of the device it lost connection. I looked at the device no lights looked & appeared to be off. Pick up the device, not off, to hot to be off. So I go back to my phone & try to relaunch the app, launches but won't connect, just scans, at this point I decide to pull the battery. Put the battery back in, everything works like a charm. Anyone?

I think you are over reacting. I am one of the more vocal about customer service problems and IQ reliability.

First, I just got off of the PHONE with DaVinci. Really, a live person picked up the phone and quickly and patiently sold me another Ascent warranty and I got my RMA lined up in 10 minutes via phone and two email responces. Customer service is way beyond reproach these days, its really superb and if you're nice with your problem ..... often generous.

I recently experienced an eight day RMA for an IQ that I broke, no problem per DaVinci, others report two weeks which is really good by other retailer standards. (I was jamming needle sharp glass shards through the oven wall) DaVinci gave me a new one no problem, no hesitation. I know they will continue to honor the warranty for ten years. Ask CS about a repair facility in Canada to cut back on shipping and custom costs. I am pretty sure I read they were working something up for you wild woolly Canadians.

If you buy direct, you can get store credits for some of the nice gear to enhance the IQ. The overheating is no problem for most, I used a leather tong to wrap mine stylishly. If you are from the north, you might like the handwarmer effect.

Most of us just stopped taking the pearl off and it will not break off the post that way. Just clean while attached, no problem. Remember, out of all the many thousands of IQs already sold, maybe 9 people here have had an issue with the pearls. The same sort of proportions for the oven cracks. These forums tend to concentrate and thereby escalate the apparent failure rate.

I take time to explain this to you for your own good. The IQ is really so nice, you will have no regrets, even if you break it and deal with RMAs several times like me. Do yourself a favor and have some faith in a good product.

IMO: The IQ becomes hot due to the lack of power needed to fully function from the stock batteries.

You battery guys are such scientists. :science::tup: I hope you got it! Observation leads to theories . I'd like to hear @Davinci_vaporizer weigh in too. I was interested in hearing about the higher amp battery results.

So do I, @Davinci_vaporizer has never given any specs of the IQ so that we can buy the proper amperage battery and resolve these battery issues. I have (2) LG HG2 20amps (2) Samsung 25R 20amps along with the stock in my rotation and the unit still runs hot.

Yeah after breaking mine off so easily while cleaning I don't plan on unloosening it again. Rather not take the chances with it being so flimsy. Other then that slight mishap, truly a great device that has great vapor production and consistency. CS was great too they took good care of me and were super responsive.

I would imagine the battery that they put in the factory is their spec. But with recent failures/heat issues etc who knows. I guess to really know you'd need the spec of the oven. The only other unit involved would be Bluetooth but that power is minimum.

So got my RYOT Rat Pak Sm smelly proof today. Much smaller than Davinci's. But that's what I wanted, just big enough for 1 battery and the IQ, that's what I got, only I still screwed up. I measured it exactly for the IQ itself. Not with the 10mm adapter. That's how close I measured this case. So When I go out I'll have to use the Flat Mouth Piece. Other than that it's perfect size.

Ok the unit getting warm or hot is a mutual agreement, considering its conduction , but for the hot handed people (me) does anybody use an effective aftermarket sleeve or something while vaping? The heat is enough to sweat my palm so I've been hitting the iq inside the pouch. It works, but just seeing what's out there.
