Good evening chaps! Just thought I'd pop a quick post here- for the past few weeks I've had the honour of testing one of the latest batch of Evos. Didn't want to jump the gun and post anything to get folk excited before the release was finalised but as they seem to be sending them out soon I thought I'd post my thoughts/review.
After signing up to the original indiegogo campaign I've been waiting along with everyone and suffering from the ever increasing frustration, which was not helped by my original Evo going into melt down only a week after I received it and sitting unusable on my desk for the past six months or so
So now I finally have a working device has it been worth the wait!? The answer is a most emphatic YES! I've been experimenting with my test model for weeks now and still think I have yet to get the best out of it. I've been using the Davinci Ascent for the past year or so whilst waiting for the Evo (and to keep me from combusting), and whilst the Ascent is a excellent portable device the Evo blows it out of the water in every way. While obviously one would expect better performance from a desktop device the Evo excels at everything it does, in fact if I can find anything to complain about it's that it's almost too powerful
Also good news is that I've been testing my unit for hours at all temperatures and have had no problems at all- it holds temp very well and I've not had to reset it once. It's not gone into nuclear meltdown either which is a massive bonus. I've been testing it at various temps/settings/amounts of herb and am only really now getting to grips with it as it is so versatile. I started testing at about 2 o'clock on the dial using the same amount as I pop into my Ascent and it literally blew me away. Taste and flavour is fantastic and filtering through a hydratube containing fresh cold water means a smooth toke no matter how much of a lungful you inhale.
I own two hydratubes (both sat on my bookshelves for the past six months unused and taunting me!)- the basic swagger sidecirc and the extremely large swagger perc with the turbine (can't remember the name). After a great deal of testing with different temps etc I've found that the smaller perc is great for use on my own when I'm just sipping at the vapour and finishing a ELB to myself, whereas the larger one is too much for one man and best used in company where you can pack a bowl and have a bit of a competition to see who can spin the water through the turbine! I already have a hankering after new bits of glasswear which with xmas on the way might be dangerous
I've discovered what works best for me generally being an evening partaker is to pop a minuscule amount of herb into an ELB (I'm not joking- about 0.03g), switch my Evo on at 12 o'clock, leave for fifteen minutes or so to heat up and then turn it down to 9-10 and hit it. I don't get huge clouds at that temp but I prefer a lighter vapour and greater taste and can then turn it up if needed. I don't think I've tried it past about 3 'oclock and even at 12 it produces monster clouds!
In summary I am extremely happy with the Evo. It seems to me by far the best product out there, especially with the hydratube, and although it's been a maddening journey I'd say it's definitely been worth the wait. I for one am grateful that I held on, I hope you guys get your Evos soon and we can get some happy comments on this thread!
