McCain ran against Obama in his first election. He would probably qualify as more of a liberal. On the other hand his running mate

I liked liberal McCain before 2006, but then, the money got to him and turned him into the conservative McCain we have today.

I have changed my views a few times in my life based on new information or just pulling my head out of my ass but c'mon dude.

Edit: FYI, My "c'mon dude" comment was directed at McCain, if that was not clear. ;)

It's just that he was around when Republicans were still pretending to be real people with some reasonable views. He ditched that quickly enough to stay what passes for relevant in his party, however, and now just calls for unending war everywhere.

Weirdest thing. That link shows for only a second or so, then disappears. And trying to highlight it doesn't work either. Weird. Only refreshing the screen and hitting it very fast before it disappears works.

Rand Paul vowed today to filibuster the debt ceiling increase bill. Stupid, stupid man. People imagine he is a libertarian. Mainly he's just another tea party wacko wingnut willing to risk another credit downgrade (once wasn't enough) with yet another moronic attempt to win concessions by hostage-taking. He is threatening to do harm to the country unless we do what he wants. In my book that is getting mighty close to treason, indicates a misunderstanding of how our representative democracy works, and calls into question the right of these people to call themselves 'conservatives'.

Unfortunately, Rand Paul is just one of many. At least he, unlike some of the other extremists, doesn't think he was elected for the explicit purpose of bringing down the government. I think he actually believes what he is saying. Personally I think his ideas are nuts and destructive, but I don't doubt his sincerity. I wish I could say that about some of his peers...

Do we really want for our leader someone who approves commandeering the wheel of our ship of state and pointing us toward the rocks until the captain agrees to his demands? Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul have disqualified themselves for consideration for the job, IMO.

BTW, probably will be audio of tonight's debate in about an hour here -> http://tunein.com/search/?query=republican debate

:disgust: How about our new speaker of the house...

Paul Ryan has sought to flood American elections with undisclosed dark money throughout his career:
  • In 2010, Ryan fought to defeat the DISCLOSE Act, an important campaign finance bill, calling it “unconstitutional.”
  • In 2013, Ryan “headlined” one of the Koch network’s dark money donor summits.
  • In 2014, Ryan hailed the Citizens United case as a victory, saying “The Court made the right decision in upholding free speech rights.”

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), seen in Des Moines on Oct. 24, wants to take marijuana off the federal list of the most dangerous drugs. (Charlie Neibergall/AP)
By John Wagner and Christopher Ingraham October 28 at 4:29 PM
Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders announced his support Wednesday for removing marijuana from a list of the most dangerous drugs outlawed by the federal government — a move that would free states to legalize it without impediments from Washington.

The self-described “democratic socialist” senator from Vermont shared his proposal during a nearly two-hour town hall meeting with college students that he said was broadcast on the Internet to about 300 campuses across the country from George Mason University in Fairfax County, Va.

“Too many Americans have seen their lives destroyed because they have criminal records as a result of marijuana use,” Sanders told a live audience of more than 1,700 students, which erupted with applause. “That’s wrong. That has got to change.”

But he's worked hard to fight against "overdoses". I wish I was a moderator and followed up with "How many marijuana overdose deaths were there in the US over the last 240 years anyway?"

Idiots, all of them.:bang:

:peace:
haha yea I was baffled at that too... like come on, not one thing he said was actually related to marijuana

Hell, for the most part, no one answered ANY of the questions that was originally asked. They just went on with their own agenda and talking points as if a question was never asked in the first place.

With that said though, I was embarrassed for CNBC for that was the most amateurish run debate that I have ever seen.

I was torn by the type of questions asked. For example....what are your favorite 3 apps? On one hand its entertaining and provides some insight into the person's technical intelligence on the other hand there are way more important questions to debate. I for one believe that what may be perceived as silly questions offers a chance to hear something the candidate did not prepare for which increases the possibility that some of the candidates 'real' self may come through.

Chris Christie's interview this morning on CNBC where he said John Harwood is biased. Curious what FC folk think.......

The good news....there were Republicans who said the words 'Global warming' without puking in their own mouth.

haha very true... I was saying to my bud how crazy I was going to go if I heard "and thats why my plan.." or some variation again by the end... it was ridiculous, 90% of the questions got responses that were repeating the same facts about their plans that were said over and over... and the constant yelling to get a word in because they were mentioned when half the time they weren't and they were strictly trying to get another 30 sec to repeat more about their plan and not even address what was being discussed

Politicians often present themselves as they are coached to do in the media age. This time It was more of a cross between a professional wrestling match and a school yard argument. Sadly they did it that way because its what works.

PAUL: You know, I left my medical practice and ran for office because I was concerned about an $18 trillion debt. We borrow a million dollars a minute. Now, on the floor of the Congress, the Washington establishment from both parties puts forward a bill that will explode the deficit. It allows President Obama to borrow unlimited amounts of money.

I will stand firm. I will spend every ounce of energy to stop it. I will begin tomorrow to filibuster it. And I ask everyone in America to call Congress tomorrow and say enough is enough; no more debt.
The above quote of Rand Paul from last night's debate is a total lie! Congress passes laws that spend money. Obama can sign them or not. Obama has no power to borrow and spend. That's Congress' job. The debt ceiling does not authorize any spending, it merely raises a borrowing limit so the Congress can pay for the bills they have already passed. For years repubs have been saying don't 'give Obama a blank check'. That is complete and utter bullshit! Congress determines what to spend money on and how much. The president can sign or veto, those are his only choices - agree or disagree with the spending enacted by a republican congress. How many more times is Rand Paul going to repeat this lie? And maybe more disturbing than the lie itself, what does he hope to achieve with it? What sort of calculations would spur a candidate to tell such an obvious lie? I don't believe for a second that Rand Paul believes his own deception. Apparently his presumption is there is a segment of republican voters so thick and so ignorant that they are fooled by this lie, he feels that this constituency of dunces is gettable for him, and since nobody in the repub camp ever questions it he can get away with it without any ill effect. And why do the debate moderators and the media just let this pass? It defies understanding why they get a pass with this great big fucking lie.

You nailed it including the unanswered question as to why the mods let that statement pass. It's lucky for Rand Paul that most folks don't bother to take the time to verify this BS...this way he and the republicans don't have to admit to their constituents that they are responsible and even worse....as fiscally responsible as a 'tax and spend liberal'.

It's amazing that they can even claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility. The deficit and debt go up under Republican administrations and do the opposite under Democrats. This has been true my entire life and beyond. Hell, I'm positive that Ben Carson doesn't even know what the Debt Ceiling is.
