The status quo has failed america, that's why establishment candidates are floundering. We are also seeing the difference between liberals, conservatives and progressives; the latter is the only way out.
We need progress:horse:!

Shall We Choose Poison?

The National Review has just come out with an entire issue dedicated to convincing Republicans not to nominate Donald Trump to be their presidential candidate. It wasn’t a painless decision. It cost them the right to cohost (along with Salem Radio and Telemundo) a Republican debate with CNN.

The magazine is more conflicted about Ted Cruz. Writing for The Corner, for example, David French accuses the Republican establishment of being petulant in their refusal to contemplate serving under a Cruz presidency.

What’s remarkable about Mr. French’s position is that he places absolutely no weight on the idea that a person who belongs to a 100-person organization and manages to make about 98 of the members detest and despise them, probably is not the kind of person you want to make the leader of anything.

French was responding to a report at CNN in which Senator Dan Coats of Indiana said that the wounds Cruz has created with the Republican caucus are so deep that they’d find it nearly impossible to work with him. And Coats was hardly alone in expressing that opinion. Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina likened a choice between Trump and Cruz to a choice between being shot and poisoned to death. Most strikingly, Texas’s other senator, John Cornyn, refused to defend his partner after Bob Dole said that a Cruz candidacy would be “cataclysmic” for the party.

But French dismisses this as letting petty personal differences get in the way of the good of the party.

…this is sheer crazy talk. Look, I get that senators are people — they have feelings and pride and don’t like to be called names. But talk through the hurt with your spouse or pastor, and then man up, get out there, and make it clear that you’re going to campaign your heart out for the GOP nominee. After years of tough election campaigns, food fights on cable television, and withering attacks on social media, Ted Cruz is the one who broke your spirits?
I don’t think Ted Cruz broke their spirits. They know him. They know him and they don’t like him. They don’t like him and they don’t trust him. They don’t trust him and they don’t want to serve under him. They don’t think he should be our president.
Maybe their collective wisdom should count for something.

The fact that it doesn’t seem to among a lot of fairly well-educated conservatives is another indicator of just how little credibility the GOP establishment has with anyone.
But another indicator of how much Cruz is hated is that folks outside of the Senate are beginning to make sounds about Trump being more acceptable.

“If it came down to Trump or Cruz, there is no question I’d vote for Trump,” said former New York mayor and 2008 presidential candidate Rudolph W. Giuliani, who has not endorsed a candidate. “As a party, we’d have a better chance of winning with him, and I think a lot of Republicans look at it that way.”
So, this is where we are. The conservatives at the National Review, Weekly Standard, Red State and other like publications are doing a full-court press to stop Trump because they thinks he’s a flim-flam artist and a confidence man, while the elected officials (current and former) are telling anyone who will listen that Cruz is completely unacceptable.
For once, I agree with a lot of conservatives. I think they’re all right.

Sure, the United States is strong built on printed money that does not exist and to make things really interesting China is our, banker, our baker, and our candle stick maker.

I do not know the last time I saw a 'made in the USA' label. The rich, wealthy, Americans (our owners) could not have been more eager, fast, and more thorough in the destruction of our manufacturing base and job market. Rich Americans sold it all to China for pennies on the dollar. Now instead of solid manufacturing jobs that pay well we have Walmart and McDonalds instead of RCA and Apple. Funny, America drives Apple and they repay us by building their shit in China. The rich sold out the middle-class --- it's gone and it's not coming back no matter who is our POTUS. I am sorry but the United States has past the point of no return. I hate to see it. But if you're into downhill skiing...it is going to be exciting and scary.

I've been hearing this same doom and gloom for decades along with the usual 'the chickens are coming home to roost'. I wish they'd hurry up already....have you seen the price of chicken! Hell, it doesn't even have to be free range.

It's not that I disagree with all of these statements. It's the overly exaggerated 'Prepare for Armageddon' that gets so old. I just don't have the room in my bomb shelter for anymore guns or water.

The last time I felt the need to comment on these kind of statements I pointed out to the doomsayer that he continues to sound the alarm while buying all that cheap Chinese stuff. When I mentioned that he is saying one thing and voting with his dollars in the opposite direction it didn't register. Anyone complaining like this that is buying from DHGATE or buying Chinese vapes needs to check themselves.

Many of those who are in the Trump camp don't really care about what the National Review, New York Times or even Fox in some cases think of Trump. Which is why the shot callers in the party are looking for a way to tighten control over the process. What I am waiting for is what that course of action will the party elders select and how apparent it will be.

Alright, I think we have reached our limit on America hating. This thread is supposed to be about the Presidential Candidates, not America bashing and people's political philosophies. If that is what you really want to talk about, start a thread about it. We are talking 2016 elections in this thread...

Are you kidding me? This thread is about an election where all of the establishment candidates want to invade the Middle East, and you are saying any discussion of foreign policy is off topic? It's not America bashing it's bashing of candidates that are war mongers and want to send my friends to die in some desert Hell hole. This is THE dividing issue for many Democrats against Hillary.

Hillary goes on about how Iran is a threat to this country. Imagine how Iran feels when their two neighbors, Iraq and Afghanistan have been invaded by the United States.

As somebody who was a child when his parents took him to DC to protest the Iraq War, I can't help but feel like this country is really going to shit when liberals are throwing out the accusation of "Anti American" at anybody they disagree with. Back then establishment Democrats would throw the same accusation at protesters against the illegal invasion of Iraq. I would have thought that by now people would realize what a disaster the Iraq War that Hillary voted for has been... you know with ISIS chopping heads and performing mass rape.

If every topic which puts America in a bad light was considered off topic America Bashing then we would still have segregation.

Can you really separate candidates from their party agendas on an open forum? Wish you luck with that one.

When a 335 word post (for example) doesn't include the name of one candidate for president, I think it is fair to suggest the post doesn't belong in a thread called "The 2016 Presidential Candidates". If all you are doing is talking about what a terrible country America is, or trying to point out what you think America has done wrong historically, I don't think this thread is the right forum. Do you?

If you try and put it in the context of the election and who may stand for what you are at least closer to the purpose of this thread. But this is not intended to be, and likely wouldn't even be allowed if it were nothing but a political bitch thread.

Maybe Bernie Sanders needs to break away from the Democratic Party and run as an Independant if he doesnt get the Democrats nomination. Not that I would want the Democrates to hand over the keys to the White House to Donald Trump.

It would serve them right for ignoring him like they are doing. I do not like Wasserman/Shultz the DNC chairperson. By the way she is against cannabis.

The 2016 economy will be the reason bernie is elected; the msm can't hide the meltdown any longer. They would rather everyone keep their heads buried in the sand until it's too late, like they did in the late 1920's. This depression will be much worse, because there are many more dependent, vulnerable consumers.

Though that is exactly what would happen. Trump or whoever actually gets the Republican nod. Split the Dem vote and the Republican wins. Been there, done that.

I believe Bernie would make mincemeat out of Trump, or any other Republican candidate really, in a presidential debate. Also, I don't subscribe to the theory that Bernie is unelectable due to being a self-avowed socialist. It is true that many Americans don't understand what democratic socialism is, but if Bernie was the party nominee I believe plenty of people would do a little research and realize that he's not so bad after all.

Sanders knows the political system in & out... Trump is a political bumbler who knows little of any pressing issue - only that he will hire & fire the best experts he can find to shore up his administration and get the job done just like on a reality tv show... the United States will become his corporate enterprise, and it will be run like a corporate business with one hand, while a finger on the other hand stays poised, primed, and ready to push the nuclear button on any pressing domestic or foreign issue. This is all he knows. Huge profits will be assured to him at the end of his reign and well into his reunion with private corporate life.

I will respect Trump-pets for consistency when they seek to hire gardeners as their doctors, book-keepers as auto mechanics, food chefs to replace the mechanics, lawyers for the chefs, babysitters as teachers*, etc.

Until then I remain old man yelling at clouds.
Sometimes I think I am the last educated American.
Has anyone read the new best selling replacement to the story "The Ugly American"?

"The Insane American"
A tragic history of the end of the American dream of Democracy and government for the people; the time when Oligarchs established feudalism in the homeland, and the revelation of the new-new testament of the second coming of Savior Trump began.
the second coming began
the second coming began Savior Trump as .

*If teachers were paid per hour/ per child at a teen babysitter's rate (just for hours in class), they'd be well off.

Interesting provocation for thought, but could you be a little less cryptic and state your points directly, as I, for one, have not read the sources you cite, and not being a political aficionado I only eat rocks for breakfast? Thanks in advance for clarity and specificity.
