Anyway of preventing that abv dust getting into the sublimate jar?

Fine or ultra fine screen wedged all the way down below top screen.

The downside to the extra screen is it gets clogged after about 2 days of use.

Does anyone else find that little screw cap on the bottom of the Sub base to be rather useless? All it does is fill up with AVB residue and once in a blue moon maybe the tiniest little drop of sublimate. The rest of the sublimate seems to form in the tip of the atomizer's bottom spout, usually need the moon tool to scrape it all out and it's good for one or two super-heady double deckers. Am I doing something wrong or is that just how it is?

I have found the same thing with the atomiser and the sublimate.

Once I scrape I then smear some sublimate into the atomiser just above the screen and hit.

A clean, old school long atomizer takes about 30 bowls of flower to get one drip of sublimate.

i think thats a hard estimate to come to because it really comes down to the quality of the product your putting in i think.

Hey guys - super noob questions...I've been pondering getting XLR 2.0 to add to the arsenal of vapes, my two most used being the Volcano Digi and Mighty.

Been looking at the Sub (for flowers and occasional extracts) after committing to 100% vapes for health reasons and love my Volcano and Mighty for precision temp control.

Is the sub a vape in the sense that no carcinogens, benzenes or carbon monoxide if you knew the temperature being used on the monkey controller (lower dial settings)

I hear they are releasing a digital monkey controller but not until 2016. I'm on the fence because they may or may not make the digital monkey controller compatible with the 2.0's. I hear Enrico and his crew have not finalized the design of the new connector.

I'm a bit of a collector and a purist and totally want to have this item for the collection as well as to experience.

Im about to do a review on my full opinion. But to go ahead and help you out.

The sub is able to extract every last bit of the meds in seconds. You can not beat the high temp rips. I haven't experimented much on low temps as i use my Cloud Evo for that. But

The Volcano+Mighty do not compare. They are not bad by any means. But they still don't compare..

The Sub is my go to vape. But i prefer lung busting type vapor rips vs "sipping on the whip" style

if your wanting a powerful, super strong vaporizer get the Sub. If you want a complete control, easy to use unit go with the Herbalizer

Side note: The new Sublimator with temp control will be released in 6 or 7 months and it will be compatible with the 2.0. You will also have the option to return your current 2.0 unit and upgrade to the new precise temp control unit for a cheaper than normal price

Thanks for the info - I opted to forgo the Herbalizer as the Volcano is a similar product, but was looking for the more extreme vapor hits the Sub pounds out.

Agreed. But just because of how much cheaper it is. The setup does look very official+classy tho.

Make sure to use heavy sturdy glass tho. I've already shattered a bubbler attempting to use it with my Sub

I've used dhgate rigs without issue, just gotta be careful. I personally don't care about the glass or the base, asides from it being way cheaper to buy the sub and a dhgate piece, I just don't think sublimators pieces add much at their price point compared to a dhgate piece.. I especially don't like the ones with the whips, I just don't see the point of turning the sublimator into a whip unit.

I've tried to establish a kind of workflow with the sub...

The sub is pretty simple to load/unload, so you can easily just kinda do it on autopilot without thinking.
I've found that Mr Autopilot doesn't seem to care about burn risks though

So now I just try to kind of deliberately think about each step -

1. Ready herb - have bowl/container ready and scoop within reach.
2. Remove heater and place in stand
3. Scoop in bud
4. Place heater back on sub

Step 1 just ensures I'm not reaching around for anything while I've got 2 hot piece of sub in front of me
by the time I'm at step 4 I'm back to 1 hot piece of sub, and because I've got the heat shield I don't need to worry too much about the assembled sub,

Then to unload it's basically the same thing,

1. Ready ABV container - Remove it's lid and have the container and a stirring tool within reach
2. Remove heater and place in stand
3. Quickly stir the abv (I find this makes the abv fall out easily, without this stir, it always stays stuck and I need to tap the atomizer repeatedly)
4. Pour out ABV
5. Place heater back on sub

Then I just assume the sub will be a molten ball of death for 1/2 an hour while it cools down - so no touching

I know those lists are basically just common sense operation of the sub, but I find by focusing on it a little bit more than I do most other vapes, it helps reduce the burn risk of the sub.
I managed to get a few annoying minor burns from it in the first week, but after that I've only managed to lightly graze my forearm along the atomizer reaching for my scoop once...

Mine has already became burnt from sitting in the Sub too long one time, so i just decided to take a torch to it and cleaned it that way. At least the airflow went back to normal which was my goal

I can't tell if it effected the taste or not. But is there another suggested method of cleaning?

If you happen to have a shaver or buzzer kit go get it and pull out the little tiny brush with the stiff bristles it comes with. I'm assuming these are used to clean hair scraps out of the buzzers, and they work equally well with swiping AVB residue off the screens.

Finally stopped procrastinating and got a better set of screens for the bottom ridge inside the bowl. I did have to trim the edges so that it would just fall in place when inserted and eject along with the Iolite screen when dumping the spent load. It's a couple extra seconds of effort ejecting two different screens, wiping them clean with the stiff little bristle brush, then re-inserting. But man oh man does that little bit of extra effort go a long way for maintenance and cleaning reduction, and I can actually TASTE the hits now with everything staying cleaner for longer. Imagine that, on a SS Apollo with flowers only which is supposed to be the least tasty option of all lol

What size screen did you use?

I've been using a Nail Crown (https://nailcrown.com/) to hold my Apollo when reloading. I just turn it upside down first.

The beginning size doesn't really matter since you will need to trim it down to a custom size that drops in without locking in place. The way I cut mine it just sits loose on the bottom ledge before the atomizer. The purpose of this is to obviously keep AVB residue out of the airways, but also by ejecting it allows that ledge space to be given a quick scrape to keep it clean between loads. Normally this is the area that quickly gunks up and contaminates the flavor when a screen has been shoved down and stays in place. Having it come back out for better cleaning seriously cuts down on maintenance and helps a whole lot with flavor.

After a few days of use with the Sub I've got my thoughts.

With a clean good air flowing screen, the extraction process is the best a vaporizer has done imo. Its so quick and extracts everything.

The quality of vapor is A grade. It is not as tasty as the Evo as expected, but its not bad in any way, it just has more of a "no taste" to it. Ive only used it dry as I've been able to take larger hits than the Evo with water so the Sublimators smoothness of the vapor seems to be very impressive especially for the sized hits I've been able to take which have been bong like clouds

Speaking of big hits. Those double deckers will leave your lungs ripped. What an awesome idea.

This thing really does produce potent fully extracted hits. More potent than any other vape I've used which include the herbalizer evo volcano plenty and pax

Now with saying that. It was worth the cost. But with it costing a lot I wish a few things were improved with the design.

I would like an indicator for when the atomizer is at optimal temp. If you don't let it preheat with the apollo before your hit you'll be left with a half way extracted hit. If you leave it preheated too long you'll come close to combustion. Its not too difficult to get the hang of how long to leave them together but after a few double deckers your timing can become a little off sometimes

It would be hard to fix but if the overall weight of the apollo/atomizer was lighter and less likely to tip that would be a plus

The sublimate is awesome. I mean who doesn't love free dabs? Collecting it is somewhat of a pain if your using the adapt a kit tho. It kind of goes everywhere

Warm up time is a little longer than wanted

Emptying the abv from the atomizer isn't difficult. The abv just can get stuck in there sometimes tho (just use the moon tool to loosen it up)

The stand is perfect for the apollo. But if you plan on heating up the apollo and atomizer together on the stand it becomes somewhat of a struggle..



^Thats not necessarily a list of cons. Just a list of things to improve because of the price. You definitely give up some ease of use, but if your needing the most potent device then this is it. If it continues to work as is i definitely will not regret my purchase what so ever. I was on the fence about purchasing since i had already owned other vapes but i sure am glad i pulled the trigger. If your in the same position then take the advice not to second guess yourself. Its now my daily driver. Hope this helps someone out.

actually except the no taste thing, whilst the taste isn't as prevalent as on my mighty or cloud,
i still get definitely tasty rips from the sub, just not as tasty, and you definitely have to clean it regularly if your using oil because I find the decarbed oil cooking on their for ages really begins to effect the taste of the flowers.
