Has anyone ever messed with beads in the intake stem? I was looking at all the ball mods for desktops and I was considering trying to do the same for a brick. Kind of have a thermal mass to heat up then hit.

I have not, but there used to be a Lamart torch vape that used balls as thermal mass. I think RWW told me he had one (admit I'm a little jelly). Not sure how well they worked, to be honest, but I'd look into that at a starting point.

That said, I have found a method for using thermal mass to get something like ballvape-level consistency and clouds in my Hydrobrick: the Prrl Neo. When I first saw it I took it as a housewife-friendly intro vape that would be great in theory but lame in practice, but it's so not. I mean it is that form factor, but it works. Really well. Flavor is better any vape I've ever used, unsurprising since it's made to be a boutique-weed tasting device. Surprisingly, my Hydrobrick has never been as consistent nor as absolutely productive and that's only at the middle settings. It's like I plugged it in and turned it into a ballvape. If it sounds like I'm overstating it, I admit that I'm going to test further today as I could not believe the results I was getting.

I've used the Hydrobrick with my Hot Rod as well, for great consistency and production. Similar heaters should work the same. I mention these options both as a method for supercharging your experience, and also for those who love their Bricks but suffer from old eyes and need an after-dark method of heating.

Funny you should bring up the neo, I thought the same thing about it and just yesterday I saw a video showcasing how it actually works. That's brilliant to use it with the hydrobrick as I have been trying to find a way to make it more beginner friendly.
I had gotten a small heat gun from Amazon and it worked but I would not trust inhaling it. They do sell higher end ones made with better components that have temp and air control that would be perfect but again, not sure if they are safe to be inhaling from.

God damnit. I decided not to buy a Neo even though I want one. Now I might have to.
Sorry, you got to. ; )

A heater really can simplify and add consistency. I think what surprised me about the Neo is the flavor, and also the crazy production at those presumably lower temps. I justified the purchase to myself reasoning that it untethers from my knee-high vape station, allowing me to use the heater on my desk which is comfortable for placing the wee hydrotubes at face level. I can also use it on the porch, etc, and importantly, after dark. I still use my torch all the time, but after dark or on the porch, it's nice to have the option.

Let me start by saying the power from this thing is insane! Although I think God was playing a mind game with me with this one. My first 20+ bowls were flawless with this Vape with no restrictor disc because I pulled it out immediately. I thought I was so good I was about to call Kenny himself and give him a few pointers.

But then… I became a pyromaniac fire fighter! Lighting fires extinguishing fires lighting fires extinguishing fires. There was a point where I couldn’t do anything but set a fire. I think it was because a change in the flame when I refill the lighter? Not exactly sure. So I threw the restrictor disc back in and tried again with better results but not perfect. I haven’t been able to simulate my first experiences, but this thing hits like Mike Tyson in the 90s.

I got the flipbrick as an experiment to see if I wanted to invest more money in one of their better units.

I definitely love this device and I am 100% committed to upgrading. Now the question is what is the best upgrade? I think I’m leaning towards the Maxx, OG, or runt but I believe I wanna try a unit with a straight tube instead of the bent?

Thank you vape family!

Hah! I just 'downgraded' from an OG/Maxx to a Flip and I'm just a wee bit happier than I was before: this Flip is MUCH easier and more enjoyable to use than I expected, and the results are pure SBL. I like that it feels so responsive, and that it got me high as fuck last night testing it out. There's more to say, but for now, I love this flippin brick!

As far as upgrades are concerned, the OG is like the greatest thing ever so don't hesitate, unless you're considering the Maxx because that thing is like having a brick vaping base station. It hits like a dream and is so flexible: whipped mouthpiece, whipped bong connection, OG-type mouthpiece, hydrotubes, and many after-market choices. I've been using a Prrl Neo with mine and it's even heavier, tastier, and more consistent than ever before.

The OG is probably the easiest and most enjoyable to use; it's like a phat dry bong blasting cool clouds into your head. You can raise and lower the screen (and adjust torching accordingly) for different effects: near the top for flavor sessions, down low for blasting bowls.

Anyhow, you're gonna have a good time whichever you choose, or if you choose both. They do have some overlap in usages, but they are also complimentary. I understand that the others are pretty good too!

Re: intake orientation: The straight intake is super responsive and if you have issues it's usually just adjusting the angle or getting use to adjusting breath speed. The Flip would be much more challenging with a straight intake, and while some have used the Flip intake to ease their heating with an OG or Hydrobrick, but I have found it too slow for those longer heating paths. I think the general sense is that even with the bent intake, the flip is faster/touchier heating-wise than the bigger ones despite their straight intakes.

I love my OG but I haven't tried the maxx or runt. Straight intake is great for me, got it going after a bowls. or two. Like coolbreeze said, you just need to adjust the angle of the flame until you hear the whistle. Hits are cool and big. I keep the restrictor disk in mine.

Fwiw, I ordered one of these to try (it evidently fits SBs well):

A commenter said that it really evens out the heating experience and helps them get big clouds. Reminds me of other bowl-top diffusers I've tried and if it's similar, it's like easy mode. Just something to try out an play with, but it may help those struggling.

Also, that company makes a few brick-style vapes that look pretty nice.

Day 3 with my new Hydrobrick Maxx and it stands now as my N1 Quick home sesh vape so far, I can get as fast results with the Tetrax but I dont want to use the batteries at home and overall I think it is two different type of use when comparing butane vs electric, so Sticky Numer One! Still gotta do more testing thou, using the straight flame intake with no problem, took me 1 day to find the sweetspot on the lighter flame size and the draw speed and I do massive rips. Using the restrictor disc everytime, combusted 0 times and find it is hard to combust with my flame size, I can put the flame really in and draw slow and get very nice even avb, used with wather and dry, super smooth. It has been called the most amazing of my vapes from some of my friends and I agree that the design is gorgeous, functional art. Will keep testing :D, happy to be part of the brick family now.

Is the flavor better without the disc? That would be my only but with the Brick so far, I dont find it to be among my top tasting vapes (Tetrax, GSV, DIY Elev8r)

Beautiful vape! I don't think the disc itself affects flavor, but some ways back someone here came up with their flavor method: disc in, screen up near the top of the bowl, small load (heavy screen-cover), smallish flame. I set mine up that way awhile back and sorta just rode with it. I think it's about the best taste I've gotten from it, but honestly, I've never had a problem with the flavor. It was my first convection vape and a revelation in many ways.

After a couple of months of only using my initial cherry Junior, I added the padauk to the rotation. @coolbreeze there's a slight hint of chocolate taste occasionally but it could also just be in my mind. The two Junior's hit differently though. The padauk is a lot more forgiving flame-wise and I can get a faster hit off it because I can hold the flame closer. I wonder if the redesigned intake hole has something to do with.

Interesting. Can you see a visual difference? I have a newer model Flip and it works so easily that it's hard to believe it's even the same vape that one users had such a hard time with initially (though that update was substantial enough that it almost is a different vape). They must really work on/test these usability upgrades. Also, very cool about the chocolate!
