We're on the same page.Yep, that is exactly what mine is looking like, thanks for the pic. I did have the thought that maybe it was off center on purpose to create some kind of airflow effect, but the char I was seeing made me less certain. I would guess that the charred bit will eventually get as charred as it can, and so maybe the Brick has a legit 'burn in' period haha. I am not bothered by a tiny bit of char, at least as long as that is an intended part of the design. I don't want to taste burnt wood forever, though, but that doesn't seem to be the case for you or others. I had already read that there may be a bit of woodiness for the first few bowls, and that is fine.
I can't wait to get home from work and give it another go. It's all freshly loaded (Sunset Sherbert this time) and ready for me.
I'm not worried about the char itself either. I thought maybe the heat intake hole was misaligned or too small. I didn't notice any issues with performance, I couldn't be more pleased in that department.
Shortly after that post, @StickyBricks contacted me. He asked if everything was centered, told me the heat intake hole should be 3/16". He also offered to drill it for me.
I measured it and everything is perfectly centered and the hole is the proper size. I'm not going to mess with it because I love it just the way it is.
That charred spot could be why I seemed to have more wood taste in the beginning than others. Don't worry, that will soon fade. Mine was broken in within a week at the most, it might have been less than that.
Now the wood taste adds a subtle overtone to fresh hits. At the end of the bowl I taste the wood more, but it's actually a good thing when going for high temp extractions as it covers up the taste a bit.
The Sticky Brick isn't the purest vape I have for flavor, but it's one of the best for overall flavor.
Because it has a big bowl it is capable of big amounts of flavor of that makes sense. And the wood adds a tiny bit of seasoning, making your herb taste slightly different but not woody. I've had some delicious bowls in my brick.
And it is by far the best tasting when extracting at high temperatures in my opinion. Partly because of the pure convection, but also because of the subtle wood flavor. It's personal preference but I prefer that taste to the toasty taste you usually get with high temp extractions.
