Sticky Brick Labs Vaporizer

However, when I put my finger on the cover carb, and start to heat it up, I feel a lot of heat through the carb, so much that it prevents me from having a proper session...

Have you ever had this?
Any idea why?
And above all, how can you avoid it?

Tbh i rarely use the carb when i'm using my Runt.
The couple times i did use it i also felt that i could get quite hot but the carb also didn't do that much for me.
So now i have the little cork in there almost all the time and i just 'regulate' the vapor (heat/density) with how i use the torch (distance and direction of the flame, torch on/off) if that makes sense?

Edited to add: mine is a walnut version.

Will try this technique tonight ;-) Thanks for the tip.
In the meantime I send a message to Sticky brick, I'll let you know what's their answer.
16mm steel screens from Ali Ex work well in my experience
I got some from Ali too, but I've noticed that the ones I bought from Ali are more "flexible" than the ones supplied by Sticky. And so are much less reusable

Other things that can make a difference:

-draw speed/strength makes all the difference. If you go slower the risk of combusting is more real but the clouds can be pretty impressive!
Playing with draw speed can be very rewarding. Start slow and ramp up or the other way around! You'll notice the impact!
-torch used: i get good results with single flame torches (dial them up pretty high), you can choose to go fast thru a bowl or just take your time for it and tempstep but if i want the "sportscar experience" i pull out my tripleflame. Some more caution needed but when hit right it'll knock you off your chair!

Are you using the restrictor disc or not btw?

I use a simple torch (brand "honest", see Honest Lighter), with a fairly long, thin flame.
I have a 4-flame lighter, but I only use it with my Stunner (I'm afraid it's too strong for the Runt).

No combustion, I think I'm managing the heating correctly.
I tend not to start too hard, then I fire harder and faster until I get that 'hit' in the throat.

No restrictor disc. Do you use it?

We should make a video ;-)

Here's a steal and a last chance for a classic piece, the OG Hydrobrick for $73 US:

Still the best of my vaporizers (and one of the cheapest) .. the bricks are so powerful .. it's amazing

I like the bent flame intake, which I find nicer to use than the straight one, as it allows additional adjustment, i.e. to position it at the right angle depending on how you hold the brick. I mean with a straight intake it's always the same no matter how you hold the brick. However, I really like the straight intake on my OG, but much less so on my Runt.

For me, a brick has to be handled (and maintenance) in the same way as a musical instrument, hence the need for a learning curve, but once you've learnt the lessons, you'll be composing happy melodies, and that's guaranteed!

The ritual is also pleasant and, as an ex-smoker, I suppose it has a big effect on the mind when you switch to vaping (you know, that pleasant moment when it's time to grab a rolling paper). For me, this is the vaporizer that most closely resembles the gestures and effects of old-fashioned combustion. This is the type of vaporizer that really helped me stop burning (all the electronic models I had tried at the time had failed). I now find it easier to switch to other types of vaporizers like the CL, which I really like.

I can't wait to get a Maxx in canary wood and I need the Twist to complete my collection

I'll second the Brick love. They really are exceptional vapes--I use a brick-style vape just about every day because they're fun, easy, adjustable, powerful and usually gorgeous enough to really add to the experience. I agree that they evoke the methods of the past but improve on those in almost every way.

The Twist gave me a bit of trouble early on, but on this pipe it's like magic:

Jr with a 70mm Dynabox straight intake and guaranteed success 😉

I mainly use my Jr on a water filter and it's really fantastic. It's nice to be able to disconnect the herb chamber quickly and easily, I think this model is perfect for use in the water. OK, let's go!

Damn it, well done! I love your The Brick and your videos, Thanks! I'd love to get one the old-fashioned way (I hope to find a used one someday). I have a question, I noticed that you position the flame so that it fits into the intake. What is the height is your straight intake? It looks gigantic from here, with my OG (last gen) if I do as in your video, I burn easily (without the restrictor disc). I guess that the straight intake were reduced when the restrictor disc was introduced? or on the OG reissue? my OG straight intake is 60mm heigh, it works well without a restrictor disc but I never put the flame directly into the intake tube, it just grazes the top (with a torch roughly similar to yours).

Is the Junior much different in operation compared to the Runt?

I love the Runt and have it dialed in completely. Would like a portable version for some hiking trips. Is it more twitchy? Sensitive? Does it cool sufficiently?

I find the Junior quite different from the Runt. We often see the Junior compared to the NOVA, probably due to the lid for secure and close the brick, but for me the NOVA looks more like a Runt than a Junior. In fact, the NOVA draw resistance with standard dimples stem (so a smaller than a Runt) is quite similar to that of the Runt with a smooth longer mouthpiece in terms of cooling, I find them quite similar on this point and the size of the Runt is much closer to the NOVA than to the Junior, which is much smaller in this respect. The junior is actually the smallest brick I own (sorry it's night here and I can't take a picture). The NOVA is a damn good mix between a Runt and a Junior, it's a fantastic brick! It's simply a Runt in a Junior design (I find easy one-handed handling) :brow:

You will probably have to adapt your drawing technique in comparison with the Runt, as the distance is shorter and the steam is hotter. But I'd say the draws are faster because there's less distance (the low height probably has something to do with it too).

I haven't had much experience with the Junior so I won't be able to help you much with the mouthpiece because I'm quite sensitive to Padauk wood, so I use my Junior exclusively on a water filter. I find it excels in WPA (you can leave the top part on the glass and easily remove the bowl).

I prefer the NOVA to the Junior and I prefer the Runt to the NOVA, if it makes sense (but it's a personal opinion).

It seems to me that you already own a NOVA? so I don't think it will be of any use to you? why not use the NOVA for hiking? If you're looking for something truly portable, you should take a look at Retrosteam Cuban, which is simply fantastic and perhaps less expensive than a Junior, depending on the type of wood you want

Yes it is a bit different, cools just as well with the same pathway, and a bit more versatile being smaller, more compact and with the lid... There are other portable options of these types, but that would be my favorite (I like the junior more than the runt I had more luck with it although that was back when I used these more in general too)

Yeah I love the Nova. But I love these brick vapes in general. I use the Nova and Runt differently due to the different size bowls
I would like to have that option in a portable format with lid.

So yeah this isn't an "I need a new vape" situation :D

Well, I understand, Whatever the case, Junior will give you a different feel for your Runt/NOVA, but despite its small size it's still very pleasant and powerful

The Junior with lid is similar in size to the NOVA, although the Junior is a little longer:

The real difference between the Junior and the NOVA is without lid:

And you can reverse the Junior mouthpiece too:

I hope this can give you an idea 😉

Have you put a Runt intake on your Junior? Yours seems deeper than the other pics I've seen. If so, can you still put the lid on?

No, on my previous picture it's the original mouthpiece that I received with my Junior. If you invert the mouthpiece as in the last picture, you will have to put it back in the position shown in second picture to close the lid 😉

Edit: oh sorry .. I thought you meant the mouthpiece 🙃 .. no, this is the original intake (it's the same size as a Runt).

For your information, the Junior and Runt flame intake are perfectly identical.

Only the Flip and Twist flame intake are longer, but you won't be able to close the lid in this case.

On my previous Jr pictures it's a original Junior/Runt flame intake 😉

I picked up my OG after a few years of ball vapes. And wow how could I have forgotten how great this device is! I’ve recently slimmed down my vaporizer collection to only the few vapes I actually love to use, and the OG is one of three vapes that made it.

it makes me curious about buying a new Brick, perhaps a Junior. And a complete set of spares. Is it weird to buy a brick brand new in 2024? it looks like they might've stopped making them.

It's not weird. I haven't gotten a new Brick since the Twist but they are still as awesome as they ever were. I still use one brick or another every day, even with ballvapes, etc. I hope they're just planning something new and awesome, but that depleted store is a sad sight indeed.

To be honest, they nailed the HotRod so hard that I'm surprised they never entered as the moderately-priced, awesomely artisan ball vape kit. They could do a modular set including stand, handles, bowls, and just set them up with an Omega kit or something. If they added powered vapes they could make logs, etc. They also might also look for products that work well with them (Prrl Neos, a missed opportunity) and promote packages.

Anyhow, I love the Bricks and I'd really hate to see them go. I'm a firm believer that everyone should have one. I think they can survive but they may need to innovate a little outside their traditional area.

Ok, put my $$ where my yakker is and have a movingui Junior on the way. I hadn't really intended one because I love my OWW Micro as a portable, but I'm taking the opportunity to round out the kit. The wood I've never actually seen before but it's considered a satinwood and many photos make it look amazing; in any case it's something different.

I third in saying it's not weird getting a sticky brick in 2024! I use the OG regularly and it's my wife favorite!

@coolbreeze - do you happen to know if any place sells the HotRod? I only found out about it just a few months ago and thought "What a great idea!". I saw you are also using a Prrl labs neo- how has your experience been with it vs a torch?

I just cleaned my OG and tried posing an image but I guess have to wait until the change is updated on preferences...

Unfortunately you'd have to find a used one, they only had one run because they sold out so fast the bank labeled it suspicious and froze their funds!

The Neo is excellent with the caveat that it's easy to overheat it with a brick. I'f you're reasonable about it it works really nicely.

Like the HotRod, many 18mm injectors will work well, too. It's more reliable and even than torching it and at least as powerful. Not as fun, to be honest, but for people who love bricks but want to limit their butane use, it's the perfect option.
