I really dont check humidity levels, I do believe more humidity makes for a good press but regular jar cured flower anywhere from a week to a year old all seem to work great. Final verdict..dry flower is fine, I dont think it would ever be too dry to not produce rosin.

Hey guys. Just got the .33 and I have a few questions. I have tried pressing 2 different runs so far and both had the same issue. So I'm sure I must be doing something wrong.

During heat up when I get to like the last 10 seconds I can hear the rosin start to sizzle. I finish heating for 1 full minute and by this part I only have like 1 to 2 turns of the vice left so I take the heat off and then press it down. I'm barely getting anything more than a slight ring on the wax paper. But after the slug cools down and I look at it, the inner cavity of the slug, the shaft of the plunger, the back of the spacer and the part of the slug that touches the spacer are coated in rosin.

So I'm getting a ton of rosin. It's just all squirting out the back or staying inside the slug. It's not coming out the front.

I've watched the videos and I'm following as closely as possible. I'm just not sure what I did wrong. Btw when I scrapped out all the rosin and off the plunger it was about .15g that didn't come out the front on to the wax paper.

Any suggestions to fix what I'm doing wrong?

Got some back seeping only once and I recall using big flame setting on torch and part of the flame was touching the plunger (to avoid a too big parchement)

I'll trying backing off the flame a bit and seeing. I've been pretty carefully to not hit the spacer or plunger with my flame but I could be using too much heat.

I should note that I never had any back seeping until like the very last twist of the vice. All they way up to last crank the back was clean. But as soon as I tightened it down all the way it all came out the back.

Two things are needed to make rosin, pressure and heat, you have the pressure,, if you have no rosin then it can only be not enough heat.(assuming other criteria have been met) Heat for 1:30. The "ONE" minute is your starting point, from there you add heat to find your sweet spot. I hope this helps. PEACE!
Make sure you are loading with the proper amount.
How does the puck look? I agree with your idea of backing away from the slug with the flame if its too large. Feel free to text or call me, I can help trouble shoot over the phone.

I just did another run. I cleaned up my slug and plunger first. This time I used a different strain and everything worked perfect. I got .26g out 1g of starting material. Very very happy.

I think my first 2 runs the material i was using just might not be great for rosin. It looks very sugary and covered in trichromes but it's on the dry side. The pucks when using this strain have a very oily and shiny side on the side that touches the slug, the side of the puck against the parchment paper is basically super dry and crumbly.

I'm pretty excited to get in on this. It almost seems too good to be true, but when I think about it versus other squishy squishy technologies, it makes a fuck ton of sense.

My plan is to probably grab the OG and the Deuce. Practice my way up. Although reading about the 3.5 oz is interesting! Plans for intermediary sizes?

Hi, I'm another UK resident and just ordered an og slug.33 yesterday, really looking forward to trying out this rosin malarkey and seeing what it's all about.. Thanks to all the previous posters for showing results and sharing their difficulties along with their successes.. This thread convinced me that it's worth a punt and definitely a lot cheaper and easier than trying to find rosin in this country.. Cheers guys..

Good to hear! I think I'm in the same boat. Ordered Friday but my international shipping fee was never added when the order processed. @Nattybushdoctor mentioned an electric version is in the works on another thread, really looking forward to hearing more about this.

Alright! Received my Slug and Deuce!

First off, they're hefty! Well machined, I like them. Second, I gave them a bath as instructed by NBD on the packaging.

Now, I've done two squishes. The first went well but I got maybe a 5% yield. The rosin was tasty AF. The puck of herb left behind is really fun once it cools! Feels like a plastic.

The second pass was much less successful. I got a microdabs worth of rosin. This time it was almost clear and white. Tasted nice. This time the cannabis burst out past the slug and seemed to wick up the rosin :(

I'm thinking that operating in -15 C is just not that great, even when shielded. The rosin just won't flow. As such the vice I was using isn't going to work. I'm going to run to Princess Auto and see what they've got in stock for 20 odd buckeroos.

Very excited to experiment more and report back. As a big plus, the slugpoop is totally great when mixed with some freshly ground flowers. Oh and the smell when pressing is beautiful. I hadn't noticed anyone saying that before but what a lovely aroma.

I pass no verdict thus far but from dealing with @Nattybushdoctor and his product it is all pretty positive!

I am glad to hear that they have arrived. Are you using your Slug.33 in the cold? -15c ?
Rosin being sucked back in?? Tighten your vise harder should solve that perhaps? A lot happens in the last few millimeters of compression. GO Slow and finish tight. IF you have flower coming out, slowing way down at the end should help. Or perhaps over filling? Thanks for the feedback!

My Slug has cleared UK customs just paid £19.16 import VAT and handling release charge, will be with me Monday.. The shipping to UK was very quick, just 3 days to travel across USA and land in Heathrow, unfortunately it was there when things went slowly. Arrived UK 19th Jan be in my mitts on 29th, that's with me contacting them directly this morning to find what's happened with it, another shit show from Parcelfarce!!

Thanks Natty, I'm looking forward to playing around with it and getting on this rosin train myself..

Unfortunately nothing but disappointment.

The 30mm coil was way too big and when I tried to use it the cord literally caught fire. I plugged it into my controller and it read temp fine, I flipped the power on to the coil and kaboom. I think the 25mm coil would fit better but I wont be trying it.

I did go out and pick up a torch to try out the Slug.33 the way it was meant to be used. Not really thrilled with the results. I only got one decent yield with it using a gram of Million Dollar Baby (Cherry Pie x GSC). Using the same amount of bud in my HMK press I got a much better yield. I have stuck to the 1-1.5 minute timeframe on heating but still I am sure I am doing something wrong.

I'm thinking about taking the HMK press apart and mounting the titanium heating plates to the vise and using those to heat the Slug.33 instead of an e-nail coil.

Hello bud, how's it going with your triple oz unit?

Will this unit function in a similar fashion as the .33?

Would it require mesh bags or screens at all?

Does it still work in tandem with a vice or is it going to need something like a pneumatic jack and frame?

Just curious is all, thanks.

we have a 3.6 gram slug, a 1 1/2 oz and 5oz unit. Our 5 oz unit the "LIMAX" will be available in the fall. Our 3.6 gram Slug the " Fat Mac " is now available on our website. slug33.com
Fat Mac is our last purely gas operated forge, with a 3-3:30 heating time. Our 1 1/2 oz Slug and the 5 oz Limax will come with silicone strap heaters with built in thermostat and temperature dial. There is a couple of videos of the LIMAX in action. We have only done a few runs with it Using Propane to heat it. It took about 30 minutes to get up to temperature but after that, it retained its heat for hours. 5 oz's in a single press is amazing to see. If things go as planned we will be debuting the LIMAX this fall at the Emerald cup.

p.s. Whether its an 1oz or 5 oz's the SLUG.33 forge style of press seems perform the same. No screens needed. And yes...we have purchased a 130.00 shop press to operate these larger units. Still seems to be the least expensive way to go. The Fat Mac is still small enough to use with a large table vise. But for nearly the same price I enjoy using it with the shop press.

And longtime heating of the LIMAX does not have negatve effects on terpenes? 30' is a damned long time.
