i can see the rosin it just comes out the other end. The herb also pushes out causing the slug to not be flush any more and the herb mixes in with the rosin. I have stayed below 1:30. Ive watched your videos too. I gave it to a friend maybe he will have better luck. Im chalking it up to user error and the slug is just not for me.

grunching, but isnt rosin seeping out of the back a sign that you are at or just past the best temp? still curious about this little guy but not yet convinced to give up the ole trusty remington for it (Hell, the remington has outlived 2 sets of C Clamps. I just bought the third set a few weeks back)

I hear you, the thing is, the slug works just fine without it. Every video ive ever done was without it. Its an extra, for those who want to get just a little bit more performance out of their Slug. By including it perhaps it would give the impression that it is a "must have" , when it is not.
Its an upgrade like our new Autofork that lines up your Slug on the vice automatically, stays in place while you're heating your Slug, holds the Slug in place while you release the vice and stores your hot Slug safely on any surface, it's an excellent additon to your Slug as well, only 6.99

I want to update with my ongoing solution to this problem as I think it could be useful for other users.
I solved most of the problem making two flat backing plates to be screwed in place of the original ones allowing the Slug's end to stay flat.
I'm still experiencing some compressed weed leaking because my vise isn't the best one and the connection point between the threaded shaft and the moving jaw is pretty wonky. When I'm finishing closing the vise and applying the last bit of pressure the jaw slightly rotates upward creating a hair of room that allows some rosin soaked weed to slide out.
I'll try to fix this, probably putting some extra material under the jaw to keep it lined the whole time until I can get a better vise. Unfortunately I can't find one locally so is difficult to understand if a particular model will be better than the one I already have or not just judging from some pictures on Amazon.

BTW I'm very happy with the rosin I'm getting. Very stable and tasty (of course depending on the imput material, I'm not going with the best stuff right now as I'm still learning) and operating the Slug is simpler than what I tought it could be. Definitely not for heavy use but for my limited needs seems to be the perfect solution.

thanks for the update. It's always 1 gram with the .33 i never do a .08, there is always plenty of room to put in plunger,sounds like that could be an issue for sure.

Got my slug.33 today

It has been a ride (first shipment error, then usps sending it in another country) but it is finally here

@Nattybushdoctor is a nice, trust worthed guy , delivered what promised despite first shipment error and despite my anxiety questions seeing my package going in another way he answered the best possible

Cannot try it before week end, will report after some use

Had few presses with my sług.33

It requires some learning time and yeld depends on strain I guess but I am lower than 30%(maybe 15% for the best press but I have doubts my starting material contains lot mor than 15%)

It helped getting better results not forcing on the vise and applying heat to the back plate (this soften the tip of the pressed material that has less force to push the barrel back). Vise into the oven worked but ot is too much pain in the ass to handle a hot vise

Taste is not bad but i prefer the original material taste, also handling concentrates is annoying (sticking everywhere), i prefer flowers in the end

This is a perfect gadget to add a little extra push to vaping experience when flowers aren’t enough (for double deckers) but it will be an occasional use for me

Definitely heating the backplate is helping but I get solid results only with my bigger vise, not expennsive one

Both clamps are kept parallel by frame, and this helps me a lot to keep barrel flat against backplate

Tryied some more and got the rosin dripping like seen in video, one fat tear even if on my scale still .11 so maybe the scale isn’t very accurate at the very bottom (less than 10€)

With the small, more handy and portable vise (similar but cheaper to the one @Nattybushdoctor recommend) I have often the backplate problems, the barrel being pushed hard back and the material coming out from the press wasting the attempt. With the one in picture this never happened

Also: it is a simple task but few steps must be followed in order because when you are at half time heating and you realise you forgot to put the spacer in place it is very annoying and frustrating, so planning/order and oven gloves are very welcome IME

Edit: had a backplate in my order: a squared thick magnetic steel. i use neodymium magnet to keep it on one clamp so one thing less to handle

@Andreaerdna thanks man, I'll definitely return my wobbly vise and go for a sturdier one. Also thanks for the suggestion about heating the backplate, I can see how it will help with the building of pressure against the Slug's barrel.

Yep, I can't see myself using it very often but it's my favorite way of making some concentrates among those I tried so far. Quick and easy and gives great flavor, I just hope to get better jelds and cleaner rosin with a different vise.

Got one of these in the mail yesterday. Fun little guy but I'm only a few squishes in.

I'm using a Blazer Bigshot and widemouth wood clamp/vice. Planning to splurge on some lesser quality/higher quantity flower to practice with while getting technique down. Blazer seems like overkill, but I modulate the heat output the same way I would with a vapcap (after the click)... using flame distance, time on, and gut feeling. It's also bitter cold in the garage I call my workshop.

The slug retains the heat for some serious time - my index finger and thumb should have their fingerprint return in a few weeks. Ove glove for future sqishes

I tried squishing vertical and got an awesome amount of rosin, but when I let off on the vice 75% sucked back up into that little squished puck like a sponge! The slug holds so much heat that waiting for the rosin to cool on parchment is not an option. Hence, horizontal squishes using gravity to pull/drip the rosin away from the squished puck seems to work best.

Glad to hear you are getting on with your Slug.33.
The Slug will back off the vise just a little at the very end, then you must continue to compress completely until your slug is bottomed out, the last little turn of the vice closes that gap back up and forces out the rest of the rosin. You can see this in most of my videos. Waiting for the rosin to cool on the paper? not sure what you mean here, but you should have a forklift to remove your slug? If not I can send you one. Thank you for sharing. Im glad to hear you are enjoying it and having fun using it.

The Slug33 crossed the Atlantic and is already pressing with good results !

I had the same worries as you @Andreaerdna , with a vise to small and unstable. And when I came back from the DIY store with my new vise and saw that you had bought the same I was so laughing !

Yes it is !

I had to listen @Nattybushdoctor carefully. he advise to get as close as 1g ( in the slug33 ). He seems to be THE professional here !

But as you already know, the material quality is the bigger element in the equation.

less trichomes = less rosin

One request that I think would be beneficial:

Can everybod please also post pics of your starting material and the name of the strain? Do you check humidity levels or just go for it?

It would be really helpful for those that have had difficult time with selecting the right plants to press.
