Thanks for the polish tip!
I probably don’t use it as much as some others, as I rotate between devices for variety. So I have yet to need a deep ISO soak. I pull the inter cooler, ISO wipe that, run ISO QTips through both ends several times. Then do a NO load IH heat session to dry burn a bit. I kinda like the little routine, so I do it more often I guess. The BONUS is the next time I pick up a piece, it TASTES clean, something I enjoy.
No prob.
When I'm ready to clean I don't even remove the intercooler from the stem...I just drop the whole assembly into a doob tube full of 91 iso, let it sit for 10 mins, shake it for a minute or two, and everything comes out spotless. No swabbing, no scrubbing.. Then I pull the intercooler out to get everything rinsed off, dried, and I'm done.
This may not work so good if you go many weeks or months between cleanings, but my cleaning interval is 1-2 weeks. That's using it 1-2 times a day, and I usually run a cotton filter in it which really helps to keep the internals clean. I change it out once every 2-3 loads. Ups the vapor quality too.

I got a Simrell Vortex coming my way and I'm thinking about pairing it with a bong. I will use this combo outside and take it camping, so I'm looking for a rugged solution to connect the two. Been looking around but can't seem to find the right adapter.

My preferred method would be a generic glass 10mm to 14mm adapter, but afaik they're always ground on the inside and I'd rather not risk scratching up my Vortex. Other options I've found that allow me to use the Vortex with the bong involve inferior materials I'd rather avoid in my vapor path.

There's also the option to remove the Vortex from the setup and use only the vapcap with an adapter. For my outdoor use Ed's glass WPA seems like the best option, though I've read that the ridges from the screw design can be hard to clean and I prefer easy to clean. DDave as well as Sneaky Pete (Little Finger) offer something without the ridges, but they both seem more prone to breaking.

Before I go with Ed's vapcap WPA I must ask, am I maybe missing something? Or are these my options?

I don't have any DynaVap/Simrell/vapcap stuff myself (yet), but I know that @khelek41girl has made some adapters for these, broadly speaking; e.g., see this post about a "corssover adapter" (probably not exactly what you want, but perhaps she would have ideas). Her website and other social media are under "KGWoodcrafts(.com)".

I found a UK vendor (I'm in Europe myself) of a cheap glass solution similar to Little Finger by Sneaky Pete. Might just pick two of those up.

Thanks, that crossover adapter looks interesting, though it seems to add wood to the vapor path which isn't my favorite.

Another option with your Simrell Intercooler is to pair it with an Assassin stem for pairing it to 10 and 14mm joints. There are some pics a few pages back.

That looks pretty cool. Too bad the titanium one is sold out. This would be very nice to take out camping, no need for adapters and maybe I could even leave the Simrell at home (if use without water piece isn't too harsh, which it doesn't seem to).

I certainly wouldn't recommend one of simrells wooden stems. Mine arrived and it was tiny!!

I have two of his titanium stems and this was nearly a centimeter smaller.

He wasn't easy to deal with but after much back and forth Ive sent it back for a refund.

I think for wooden stems you can get much more for your money elsewere

I was warned not to use my Vortex with sandblasted glass to prevent damage. After some searching I found these over at dhgate. Haven't received them yet, so can't comment on quality.

I use a silicone Master Adapter a lot with my Simrell to pair with water piece. Works well.
i also have two wood stems, no issues no problems, myself I would recommend his wood stems. One older non vortex and a newer one with vortex.
I noticed he has some now that are more midsections that are shorter to be used with a Mouthpiece.

not a big fan of the shorty vortex stems. They are nice if used thru water or as a mouthpiece. But the standard XL sized stem is perfect size for me. Can’t go back to regular length.

So is the new wooden one with vortex really shorter than the XL titanium? @whatitdew Always thought its the same size :o

@mmx wooden vortex will be same size as the standard titanium vortex. Just a little thicker because the wood.
i ment he seems to have a mid section stem piece now as well as the full length vortex.

Which one did you send back? Austyn confirmed that wooden vortex is the same size as the standard/xl vortex, just as @whatitdew said.

Yes the stems are shorter, they are midsections. That’s what I was getting at before. Might be some confusion.
the wood vortex is the same size as the standard titanium model.
i own 2 wood and 2 titanium SimRell Both wood are the same size as a standard XL vortex. My old wood one pre vortex is still the same size.

Hello everybody how are we doing today? Love my vortex, got it over a year ago was hoping to get it custom but it came in silver but was so good I couldn't send it back. Seeing the wood vortex looks absolutley beautiful but cleaning seems a bit of a hassle,

4 years later still don't have a custom stem been trying to figure out a way to get a custom vortex without the wife knowing. I've already got my story straight writing an email to Austin to take back and anodized it but im buying a new one.

So I guess my question to you all is the wood vortex to clean how much more of a hassle is it to clean?

Confused on the Simrell wood stem length. I was considering the “Cocobolo Vortex”, but the Simrell site does not list the length, I wrote them, NO response.

I own the standard length Titanium Vortex, and would not want anything shorter. Does anyone know the actual length of the Cocobolo Vortex in MM’s or inches?

Wood vortex only comes in the one size I believe. same size as standard XL titanium vortex. If it doesn’t say “short” or “stem” in title description its standard length and not shorter.
I think Austyn he is or was moving at the moment. So might take a day or so for him to contact you. @RustyOldNail

He did respond:

“The wood vortex stem is around 3.12”

Since that’s the same size as my Titanium Vortex, I’m going to get a Cocobolo Vortex. Expensive, but I’m happy with the cooling the vortex insert achieves.
